Chapter 70 - The Night Festival

"That is a lot of meteorites. Where did you get so many?" Captain Smith asks as several meteorites roll off the pile and clank against the ground.

"I got them from my travels, but this is all I have. I'm not sure if this will be enough for the entire island to have their own personal one," Sydra says as picks up one of the bigger meteorites. "You might be able to create street lights with these, and give the more important people on the island their own personal one,"

"That makes sense, do you mind showing us how the rune is inscribed, we'll take it from there," A scientist asks as Sydra nods and pulls out a piece of paper and a pen.

"It looks just like this, and make sure you get the inscription just right, or it might blow up in your face," Sydra says as he slides the paper across the table to Captain Smith and the scientists.

"Understood, we will make sure to follow this exactly. By the way, do the four of you have a place to spend the night, as all of the buildings should be closed by now," Captain Smith asks as the group looks at each other blankly.

"Yes... We do have a place to spend the night already set up," Sydra says as the group nods and stands up. "Is it okay if we get going now, we know the way back," Sydra asks as Captain Smith stands up and walks over to the door, opening it for the group to leave.

"Certainly, but there will be a ceremony tomorrow night for you, where I will give you your reward. It will be held in the center of the island, so I hope you can all make it," Captain Smith says as he leads the group back to the lift.

"We will definitely be there," Sydra says as he presses the button to go back to the surface. After the doors shut Erich turns to look at Sydra.

"You said we had a place to sleep, but that only works for the three of us. Where are you going to sleep?" Erich asks as the others turn to look at Sydra as well.

"Ah, I plan on sleeping at a place I saw earlier while I was lost. It's this cozy area beneath the stars, and I should be able to sleep well there," Sydra says as the group gets off the lift and walks away from the three ships.

"Alright, then we'll see you in the morning," Robert says before Sydra sends all three of them into his Arbor Sanctum. After they are inside, Sydra looks around before growing his crystal wings and flying up into the sky.

'Where was it again,' Sydra thinks as he flies around the sky above the island, looking around at the empty streets. The place he was looking for had a tall tree with thick winding branches, and was also close to the beach. Planning on hanging a hammock between the branches, Sydra was getting anxious when he couldn't find it.

Going higher into the sky, Sydra scans the entire island, until he finds the tree a few hundred meters away from a small house. 'Ah, there it is," Sydra thinks as he floats down to the tree and ties a hammock around two branches that are high above the ground. After the hammock is secure, Sydra balances himself on a branch so he can deactivate his crystal wings and fall into the hammock.

"That is much better," Sydra says as the hammock sways in the night wind, and the sound of the waves brushing against the beach causes him to become drowsy. Yawning, Sydra looks up at the full moon shining through the leaves above him. 'So sleepy,' Sydra thinks to himself as he falls into a dream about fighting enemies and rescuing damsels.

...

'Thump,' The sound of a shoe hitting his body, and slight dull pain forming on his head, causes Sydra to wake up. Dazed, Sydra tries to look around, but the blinding light of the sun is making it difficult.

"What's going on?" Sydra asks as he clumsily climbs out of the hammock, only to fall to the ground far below. If Sydra hadn't had his bones strengthened by the bone manipulation power, he might have very well broken both his legs.

"Ow," Sydra says as his eyes open widely, and he looks around at the crater he made by falling. Slowly getting up, Sydra sees a pair of feet tapping against the ground, connected to incredibly stunning legs.

"Oh, it's you," Says a womanly voice as Sydra stands up and looks at the woman in front of him.

"Wait, aren't you the woman from the red district, the one with the two peg legs?" Sydra asks as he recognizes the top half of the woman. Looking back down, Sydra shakes his head in confusion at the sight of two normal legs. "No, I must have the wrong person, you have regular legs," Sydra says as he rubs his eyes and looks back at the woman's face.

"No, I am definitely the woman you decided to turn down twice yesterday. My ability is to turn any part of my body into wood, but it isn't exactly useful in most cases," The woman says as she demonstrates by turning her arm into a wooden spike. "I can also decide what shape I want it to be in. My name is Peggy, and what I want to know is why you were in my tree?" Peggy says as she points up to the hammock Sydra had been peacefully sleeping in.

"Sorry, I didn't have anywhere to go last night, and your tree looked like the perfect spot to spend the night. To make up for it, I'm willing to give you this gem that can increase your power," Sydra says as he pulls out a crystal gem that has a wooden imprint swirling within it.

"I guess that makes up for the fact that you would rather spend the night with a tree, rather than with me," Peggy says as she takes the gem, before looking surprised at the visible increase in her power as the gem's color dims. "Wow, this gem is amazing," Peggy says as she looks back at Sydra greedily.

"Sorry, I can only give you one," Sydra says before he notices that the entire island seems to be noisier today than it was yesterday. Looking towards the city, Sydra sees multiple people racing back and forth with streamers and other decorations. "What's going on? Why are so many people carrying decorations?" Sydra asks as he turns back to Peggy, who smiles excitedly.

"You mean you haven't heard? Some visitors that came to our island have found a solution to the curse, and the Captain has told everyone that there will be a large festival tonight to reward them. Considering the fact that we have never been allowed to leave our homes at night before, many of the people on the island are incredibly excited, and that's why they are rushing around," Peggy says as she pulls a backpack off her back and shows it to Sydra.

"Dang, that's a lot of streamers," Sydra says as he peers into the backpack.

"I know! Anyway, I'm headed into the town now, so get your hammock out of my tree," Peggy says as she throws the backpack over her shoulder and races into the town. Sighing, Sydra flies back into the branches and unties his hammock.

"Guess I better let the guys out now," Sydra says as he lands back on the ground and enters his Arbor Sanctum. "Hmm, why does it smell like bacon?" Sydra mutters as he looks towards his palace. Floating into the palace, Sydra is surprised to see Marie standing in front of a table as the guys devour plates of bacon and eggs.

"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't make you a plate," Marie says as she sees Sydra enter the room and look at the food hungrily.

"It's fine, I'm not sure if what I eat in here would actually be consumed by me," Sydra says as he pulls his gaze away from the food and looks at Marie. "Are you able to stay out of your tree longer now?" Sydra asks as Marie nods her head.

"Yuppers, I've been out of my tree for a solid three days. I believe I can manage another two, but I want to be close to my tree in case I can't" Marie explains as she starts cleaning up the plates that are empty.

"Gotcha, either way though, that is still pretty good. Soon you'll be able to travel the world," Sydra says as Robert finishes up his food, and looks around for more.

"How are things on the island?" Robert asks as he grabs another plate of sausage.

"It seems that the entire island already knows about our success, and now they are planning a festival for tonight. Hmm, would you be interested in going out just for tonight, Marie?" Sydra asks as the group turns to her expectantly.

"Oh, um... Let me think about it, okay?" Marie says as she turns around and walks briskly over to the sink.
