Chapter 61 - Glacier Hurricane Eels

"Crap, where did this weather come from?!" Sydra yells as he runs onto the slippery deck, only to be almost swept away by a wave washing over the railing. Before the wave can sweep Sydra off the boat, he pulls out two daggers and stabs them into the deck. "Gahh!" Sydra yells as he stands back up and spits out the saltwater, before scrambling back across the deck towards the Captain's Quarters.

"Wake up!" Sydra yells as he calls the group out of his Arbor Sanctum, and shaking them awake. "The ship has fallen prey to a freak storm that came out of nowhere,"

"Huh, what's going on, why is the ship shaking so much?" Cidre asks as he groggily sits up, and looks around. The room seemed to be spinning, and the group had trouble standing up as the floor shook under their feet.

"A major storm has swept over the ship out of nowhere, and we need to tie things down or the ship might break apart," Sydra says as he walks around the room, releasing spiders to tie down books and other objects. "I need you guys out on the deck to make sure the sails don't break, while I guide the ship through the waves," Sydra says as the group throws on coats and heads outside into the pouring rain on the deck.

"I'll head to the left side, and release the ropes for the sails, Robert, you should head to the Mainmast and start lowering the sails from there, while Cidre takes care of the sails on the Foremast," Erich yells through the raging winds.

As the group fights their way across the deck to their positions, Sydra heads up the stairs to the wheel and begins guiding the ship towards the waves. Facing the waves head-on was the best choice of action, as the waves would tip the boat if they hit it from the side.

'Here we go!' Sydra thinks as he directs the ship towards the waves and holds on tightly to the wheel as they begin the ascent. Keeping a constant speed, the ship sails to the top of the wave and breaks over the wave. 'We need to find an area of the sea that has calm waters,' Searching the waves around them, Sydra notices a dark shadow flying in the clouds above them, but before he can get a better look at it, there is a loud snapping sound from the deck below.

"Ahh!" Cidre yells as he is thrown into the air while holding tightly onto a rope that has snapped. The rope had been decaying for a while in the harbor and was already weakened, so when the storm hit, all it took was a light tug for it to snap. Now Cidre was being tossed about high above the deck, and he couldn't pull out his pendant because of how dangerous it was at the moment.

Unable to leave the wheel, Sydra begins to come up with a way that he can save Cidre. Both Robert and Erich were too busy with their jobs to be of any use, and that didn't leave Sydra with many options. Considering how dangerous the situation is, Sydra decides to go with a dangerous idea, but also one that will be the quickest.

'I hope I don't miss,' Sydra thinks as he pulls out a dagger and connects a spider to it. Pulling back his arm, Sydra channels his fire aura through his muscles and into his hand. Collecting the fire aura in the tip of his fingers, Sydra throws the dagger into the air before it is guided by the wind towards Cidre.

'Thunck' The sound of the dagger becoming embedded in Cidre's shoulder can be heard loudly across the ship, as the wind does down for a second.

"What the f...!" Cidre yells, but the wind picks back up before the rest of the sentence can escape his mouth. Pulling on the web that connected to the spider, Sydra quickly pulled Cidre back down to the deck before healing his shoulder. "Thanks, I guess," Cidre says as he shoots Sydra a grateful look.

"Get back to work," Sydra says as he goes back to focusing on guiding the ship through the waves. As Cidre runs back down to the deck, Sydra glances back up the clouds to search for the shadow he had seen earlier.

'I'm sure I saw something flying above us,' Sydra thinks as the ship begins to descend the next wave. Distracted, Sydra begins focusing on sailing the ship safely towards the swelling water in front of them, but before it can reach the crest a large cloud descends from above.

"Do you guys see that?!" Robert yells to the other as a light blue fin dips out of the cloud before fading away a second later. Everyone stares up at the clouds quietly, waiting to see what will happen next. A few minutes passed, and the group reached the top of another wave before another fin dipped out of the clouds followed by two more. As more fins continue dipping out of the clouds, the waves and winds begin to die down.

"Yeah, what do you think they are?" Erich asks as the boat comes to a stop in the now eerily calm water. Not even the sound of waves brushing against the side of the ship could be heard as the fins in the clouds begin to circle the boat.

"I'm not sure, but I don't think it's something good," Sydra says as he pulls out the spyglass and places it against his eye. Turning it towards the clouds, Sydra tries to peer past the grey clouds, but before he can see anything, the bottom part of an icy jaw descends from the clouds.

'Scree!' The jaw opens widely, and a dark blue beam fires into the ocean next to the ship. After a few seconds of the beam penetrating the water, it begins to surge, and a large glacier erupts from the sea a few hundred meters from the ship.

"Crap, if we run into something that big, our ship will sink," Sydra mutters as he looks away from the floating ice and back towards the clouds. The fins in the sky had begun to rotate faster above the ship, and more jaws started to pop out and fire beams of dark blue light into the sea. As more ice covered the sea's surface, the clouds started to rotate in the direction of the fins.

"I think I know what those are!" Cidre yells as he barges out of the Captain's Quarters with a thick book in his hands. The title of the book was Sea Monsters, and Cidre had it open to a page that had an eel on it. "They are called Glacier Hurricane Eels, and they're famous for causing countless ships to sink with their deadly attacks. The only good thing is that they can't leave the clouds or they will fall into a state of confusion. If Sydra and I fly up into the clouds and knock the eels out of the clouds, then Robert and Erich can make short work of them," Cidre says as he pulls out his pendant and throws it on.

"How should we attack them? Are only long-range attack is the one cannon we do have and a few cannonballs. The only problem is that the cannon can't spin to face the sky, or the propulsion will send it through the deck," Robert asks as Cidre begins flapping his wings impatiently.

"Erich, do you think your power is strong enough to take a cannonball head-on?" Sydra asks, as he turns to look at Erich, who nods his head. "Great, in that case, Robert, I want you to shoot Erich with the cannon. He will then catch the cannonballs and absorb the kinetic energy, before redirecting it through his body and back into the ball. This will allow Erich to act as the cannon, and aim the balls in the direction of the eels we knockdown," Sydra says as understanding dawns on Roberts and Erich's faces. As the two of them race off to grab the cannon and the ammo, Sydra unfurls his wings and covers himself in bone armor.

"Are you ready to do this?" Sydra asks as he hands Cidre a sword, and pulls out one of his poison daggers as well as the Luminous Night Deer dagger, which can petrify things. If he can cause extra damage to the eels while they are up there, then that would make things easier.

"Yeah, I'm ready," Cidre says as he swings the sword twice through the air. Looking back up into the clouds, Sydra notices that the fins have almost become a blur and the clouds have begun to spiral down.

'Creak' The sound of the deck creaking as Erich and Robert pull the cannon onto it alerts Sydra and Cidre that it's finally time. Uncurling their wings, the two of them fly into the sky and engage the eels in battle.
