Chapter 18 - Kang

As the sound of laughter continued, Xing Gen can't help but finally voice out his doubt after the Imperial Prince doesn't stop laughing even though he is showing signs of becoming breathless.

"W-What's wrong with Kang? What do you know???"

"Oh… Hahaha… Let me… pfft… Hahaha! … It's just…Haa… Oh wow..."

Yusheng can't just stop laughing even though he desperately tries to, and after a few deep breaths, he finally managed to calm down his uncontrollable laughter, although a few chuckles still left his mouth from time to time.

Oh heavens... I am about to go crazy…

"Your Royal Highness, why are you acting like this??? Are you telling me that there is something wrong with Kang? Your Royal Highness, I don't want to oppose you but are you implying that Kang is a traitor? That is impossible!"

"Ah… you calm down."

Yusheng gently wipes the few tears that came out from his visible right eye from how hard he laughed, before shooting a maddening smile toward the young man that tried to calm down despite the firm trust he wanted to display towards a certain someone.

"And what do you mean by Kang being a traitor is impossible? You sure are unlucky. Why did you choose Kang of all people to warn Wang Ling?"

"Your Royal Highness, you have to stop talking such nonsense! Not only is Kang the tribe leader's grandson from his second son, but he is also the cousin of his Royal Highness Ling!"

"So? You trust him to the point of remaining silent during your captivity, simply waiting to die just because Kang and Wang Ling are relatives?"

Yusheng can't help but let out a snort in disbelief before pointing out a certain fact that the young man had spoken just a while ago.

"Ah so naive… If Wang Ling's half siblings are planning to harm and kill him, then why can't Kang do that too?"

"That's different! It's because they are members of the Royal Family! Your Royal Highness, you, among the countless people, should understand it!"

Yusheng watches the young man's eyes widen, desperately arguing despite how his will and belief is shaken.

"Well, that is a bit biased. My situation with my Imperial Brother is different from the one occurring in the Wang Royal Family. My Imperial Brother loves me the most, you know? He can even give up his own life for my sake."

My Older Brother is just far too kind, if the world they are living in is in a peaceful time, then he would be fitting to sit on the throne, ruling the Su Empire as a benevolent Emperor.

It's too bad that it just wasn't meant to be based on what occurred in the previous life.

Ah... I am also being hypocritical… but eh, there is no need to be reasonable all the time, it will just give me a headache and countless hardships trying to be a proper person in this life.

"... No… Your Royal Highness, Kang isn't like that... how could he betray his Royal Highness Wang Ling?"

Yusheng leans back into his chair before gently tapping his chin with his slender fingers and showing a smile that spoke with overwhelming disdain.

"Of course, there is a simple reason why he can betray Wang Ling. Don't you know how a person can do something dreadful and horrifying just because of overwhelming jealousy?"

In the previous life, Yusheng learned how an extremely jealous person Kang is despite his outward appearance. There is also the fact that even after Wang Ling is dead, he still kept muttering his cousin's name with utter contempt and resentment in his voice.

That is how petty minded Kang is, if that woman wasn't skilled in controlling all of her lovers, Yusheng wouldn't be surprised if Kang had taken action to remove all the other men that became the husbands of the ambitious Empress of the Bai Empire.

So, Yusheng absolutely believes that Kang has already started to make his move on Wang Ling.

Besides, how else would those men and that big of a woman be able to deal with Wang Ling in the previous life if it wasn't for Kang using his relationship as his cousin to finally take him down?

For a strong and powerful person, what usually causes their downfall the most is the betrayal of the people they are close to, either as family, friends or lover.

Basically, most talented people in high status died the most because they trusted the wrong person.

"J-Jealousy?"

"Yes, jealousy."

Yusheng can't help but smile inwardly on seeing how the young man is already lured in his rhythm, although there isn't a single falsehood in what he is speaking about.

"Although Wang Ling's health isn't good, and even his situation is dangerous. However, it doesn't change the fact that he is still an Imperial Prince! He has an honorable identity and status among countless people."

And if you compare Wang Ling to Kang, who is only the grandson of the tribe leader.

Even though Kang is a relative to an Imperial Prince, but to the higher-ups with noble status in the Wang Empire, by no way would they recognize such identity of a mere tribeman.

To them, Kang doesn't deserve to have their respect and awe.

Just imagine how infuriated and humiliated Kang would have been when he received such reactions?

Nonetheless, Yusheng doesn't feel any pity or sympathy after imagining Kang's situation, after all, it doesn't change the fact that person is one of the husbands of the disgusting woman.

Among the six soul marks that connected to the bug they needed to kill, Yusheng has already figured out that Kang is one of them.

So, how can Yusheng feel even an ounce of pity for his enemies that he desperately wanted to kill? And now, a chance is being given to him to eliminate one of the woman's future husbands.

I will never miss such a wonderful chance to give a blow to that bug. Especially after Sun has mentioned how the soul marks the bug has to the other six men are a bit special than the usual soul marks in this world.
