Chereads / District 42 / Chapter 51 - Welcoming

Chapter 51 - Welcoming

One of them approached and violently held Casper's hands, taking out a tool similar to a blowtorch and using it against the handcuff. In no time, the handcuff melted and Casper was free.

The soldier was about to thank him or something, but before he could do it, he got pushed hard towards the circle by that man. His injured ankle did not let him stop so soon, as he lost balance.

"That freaking…" When he turned to look at that man, he faced a prisoner that was staring at him and blocking his way.

Casper gave a step back, managing his distance and looking around. It was not a semi-circle anymore, it was completely closed now.

"Hey, hey, hey! What's going on, why they aren't sitting their butts on the benches and eating!?"

He spotted a Ridire leaning against a wall in the background, not paying attention to them at all.

"So that bastard will not do anything about it, huh? The more I know these guys, the worst is my impression about them!"

One of the prisoners stepped in front, looking towards Casper with a threatening aura as if he was about to punch him or something.

In truth, everyone in that circle had an insane or a killer look towards him. They were all agitated, their hands kept opening and clenching nonstop. Their breaths were unsteady, excited, and angry whisperings could be heard around.

They looked like wild beasts, and it was not so difficult to guess that Casper was the prey.

The White warrior started to move carefully to the center of the circle while doing the first thing he knew he must do in these situations: assess the enemy and the surrounding terrain. Study the situation was a crucial point there.

The prisoner approaching him just stopped to walk when he was with his face just some inches away from Casper's. He was a huge build-up man, with one arm substituted for a poor prosthesis that looked like a huge clamp. He had long blond hair and Casper could only imagine how many scars were around his body, but it was a bunch.

If someone asked him about that man, Casper would describe him as the true image of a futurist barbarian.

"What's your name." He had a solemn and fearless, deep voice. Casper felt the need to take distance from him, but he could not get out of the circle's center by any means.

The White warrior accepted that fight. He would not be intimated.

"Casper." He answered, looking back to that man.

"Casper, huh? We should do your welcoming, Casper. Particularly a princess's honored guest."

Casper understood in the exact moment that what gave him more trouble was his connection with the Princess.

Linking the points, he realized that the masks would never admit a citizen doing something wrong, nor a Jarl. Basically, they could not commit crimes.

The only ones capable to overcome the mask's restrictions were the Frelsi. That is, everyone that was enjailed in that prison was a Frelsi. They had everything against the Jarls and correlates with them.

"I see…" Casper answered, still looking around and taking notes of what he needed.

"And how will this welcoming be, exactly?" He clenched his fist. The barbarian noticed it and laughed hard.

"You got some guts there, huh? Okay, okay… Let's see how far you can go, Casper." He walked to the circle again, among the other prisoners.

"Everyone… You know how to proceed!" He yelled.

At that moment, nobody that was in the circle had the chance to do their movements. Casper rushed towards the human barrier they were making, aiming at a prisoner that was thin and around the same height as him.

They were so shocked, that none tried to retaliate.

Casper bumped into the prisoner, sending him flying backward and then hitting his back hard against the edge of the table.

"First thing, done: don't stay surrounded by enemies"

He ran towards the line of tables, staying between them and turning to the prisoners that were already giving chase on him.

"Second thing: move to tight places, filled with obstacles, to prevent being attacked by all sides so easily."

One of the enemies rushed towards him, with one of his hands raised in a motion of a punch.

Casper easily avoided the blow and then launched his hand towards the stomach of his attacker. The power was doubled because of his rush, and Casper's hand sank in his belly.

The guy fell to the ground while throwing out everything he had in his stomach.

"And third: retaliate."

Casper prepared a fight stance, looking to the other enraged and crazy prisoners walking on top or between the tables to reach him.

"Came closer, and let's see who will be welcomed here, you bastards! I will discount all frustration of my last fight on you!"

Three prisoners got between the tables, one behind the other, and tried to attack Casper.

Each one got brutally injured by Casper's furious blows.

Another bunch of them were coming from the left, running on top of the tables.

Casper turned the table that was on his left, knocking down some of them who were already up there. He, then, kicked hard the table in the middle air, sending it flying towards the others.

The White warrior looked to the right. A bunch was coming from there as well. Fortunately, the tables were in their way.

He took one of the benches next to him. It was as heavy as those tables, but the soldier managed to wield it.

He swung the bench rotating all his body at once, hitting the legs of four people coming from the right at the same time. The strength of the blown was such, that they nearly spun completely on the air.

Casper's left ankle sent a wave of pain in his entire leg and he barely could manage to maintain his balance.

He heard footsteps approaching and knew that he could not lose time there. He rotated his body once again, throwing that bench with all his might.

It smashed the line of enemies coming towards him, knocking down most of them.

He confirmed the situation on both sides, then in front.

To the left, the majority of enemies were coming. To the right, there were fewer prisoners. In front, there was some waiting for an opportunity… and that barbarian guy.

"You will not come, huh? Then, wait for me!"

He ran to the right, going to the offensive. His opponents again did not expect that he would do such a thing, but they were not with their guards lowered.

Casper got between that crowd of people fearlessly, already kicking while running and striking someone on the groin.

He managed to beat and disarm an inmate that had somehow taken one of the metal legs of the bench.

Now wielding a weapon, Casper started to pass through the prisoners, coming like drilling, vanishing everyone that appeared in his sight.

He gave so many blows with that metallic leg, and it started to warp to the side pretty badly.

However, he never attacked to kill, avoiding to aim at someone's head or throat.

When the leg was warped like a boomerang, Casper threw it in someone, discarding the weapon and going with a flurry of blows again.

None of these guys were inexperienced, they knew how to handle a good brawl, but Casper's pressure was insane.

It got to a point where his shoulder and forearm started to bleed hard and hurt with every blow.

"I need to finish this as fast as I can before I get my past injuries even worse! I can't afford to run out of breath as well. If they start to land full blows on me, I will be in serious trouble for sure!" He thought in a frenzy.

"If my theory is right, there is a way to stop everyone here: I need to low their morale and intimidate them. If I do so, they will back and leave me alone.

"They are already fearing me because I don't have a mask, I suppose. Even more because I am beating them to pulp all alone. Then, to finish all of it…!"

Casper finally gave the last blow to a huge and stubborn guy that was trying to match him in a brawl.

Now that the path was clear to him to pass, he rushed towards that barbarian. People tried to get in the way, but he avoided them swiftly.

When he was nearly losing his balance, with his ankle aching, he jumped from the ground and hit the huge man with a flying kick in his chest, making him smack against the tables. The guy did not fall through.

Casper barely could manage to fall to the floor standing. His ankle was getting swallowed.

However, he pretended to not be feeling any pain at all and forced his right arm to move properly.

The barbarian guy stood up, seeming enraged, staring at Casper like a mad bull.

Everyone around stopped to chase after Casper and gave a step back.

"C'mon, man, come here! But, I am warning: I will sink your face into one of these tables."

The barbarian roared in response and then started to run forward.
