Chereads / District 42 / Chapter 52 - Unscathed

Chapter 52 - Unscathed

The barbarian let out a roar towards Casper, seeming to be getting mad.

The White warrior did not show any hint of fear or hesitation, he kept standing in front of him without moving an inch.

None of the other prisoners had the intention to interrupt there. That guy was seriously losing his cool, and anyone could guess that he would just break apart anything and anyone that appeared in his sight.

The huge man gave chase after Casper, kicking the ground and boosting towards him.

Casper jumped to the side at the exact moment that his prosthesis substituting the right arm descended in a vertical blow. It hit the ground and cracked the floor.

"How they let a man like this with such thing in hands, huh!? Are you kidding me?" Casper clicked his tongue.

Now, he did not need to worry about a lot of people trying to beat him. However, now he had to deal with a giant that had a metallic limb. It was not the best combination.

"To add to it, this prosthesis nearly touches the ground. It's way larger than an arm. I am not used to fighting a human with such differences in body proportion. Avoid a vertical attack is a thing, but a horizontal one will be a different matter."

The barbarian rushed again, attacking him with the same pattern two times.

Casper dodged the first giving a huge jump backward and landing on top of a table. Again, the blow hit the ground and opened huge cracks on it.

The second this time smashed the table with such strong that broke it in half. Thankfully, the soldier had already leaped to the side again, getting out of the table.

This time, when Casper landed on the ground, his ankle nearly killed him with the shock it sent through his leg. Casper held a scream and could not remain on his feet, kneeling in the ground.

With continuous and insane pressure, the giant continued moving forward, swinging that prosthesis with such speed that was even unfair for something so heavy.

Yet, it had not speed enough to be unavoidable. Casper gave a somersault to the side, dodging the blow by inches. He rolled next to the table that the barbarian had split in two.

During the somersault, he felt that the wound on his shoulder opened even more.

The giant gave another roar and swung his weapon. Casper was expecting to see something above him… But he was wrong, it was a horizontal one.

The White warrior for a brief moment thought that it was over. He would never be able to dodge that being crouched and in pain. He thought that, if he survived that blow, he would be very lucky. Would the luck be on Casper's side?

"But… I don't need to avoid it to not let it harm me!" Casper made a quick movement, grabbing something and putting it in front of his body.

The attack landed and sent him slipping through the canteen, just stopping when he smashed his back against tables and benches behind him.

Everyone got amazed by Casper's response speed.

He was with half of the table in his hands, holding it tightly. The center of that metallic square, which was now an improvised shield, was badly crumpled. Still, Casper was unharmed.

After the brief dizziness passed, he got up again, still holding that half of the table with him and looking intently at the barbarian's face.

"Now it's time to stop run away!" He rushed forward as he could, trying to not harm his ankle even more.

With that unpleasant failure to kill Casper, the barbarian got more wild, also running against him. He was intending to be the first one to attack, already preparing his metallic arm; now he wanted to tear Casper into two pieces with the clamp of his weapon.

Nonetheless, before he could even charge completely his next movement, Casper had already entered into action. He used his new shield as a weapon and smacked it against the barbarian, nearly sending him to the ground.

The man was not expecting that outcome and got a full blow that cracked his nose and send his head flying to the side.

He needed to back several steps to not let himself be knocked down.

The rage made his blood boil, he was ready to do a carnage with that man. He just wanted to smash every single part of his body before nothing remained solid.

However, before he could even open his eyes to accomplish that, Casper had already closed the gap between them and started to slaught him, striking the barbarian numerous times with that metallic square.

He aimed the head, the trunk, and even the legs, attacking everywhere he could find an opening with strength enough to make the barbarian back one step at each blow. At some point, the metallic shield was all covered in blood.

The giant tried to retaliate, but Casper positioned the shield in front of his body and absorbed the impact, just being pushed hard to the side.

He was attacked one more time, and each hit he defended of that enraged man seemed to be stronger than the last one, sending him flying even more distant, crumpling the shield and even tearing some pieces of it.

Casper was obliged to back, avoiding the powerful attacks and just defending when necessary. If that continued, the shield would be completely destroyed.

The barbarian was so crazily furious that he let no other outs for Casper. The pressure was such that he could not find the opening to retaliate anymore.

Casper was then with his back turned to another table, he could not give a step back.

The barbarian sent the clamp of his prosthesis towards Casper, who defended, then he used it to tear apart the shield, breaking it completely.

Quickly, he charged another blow that surely would be vertical, while rushing forward, putting all his weight in that strike.

"I got you." Casper thought.

He charged forward at the same time as the man swung his metallic arm. He dodged to the side, feeling the weapon touching his right arm while descending.

Casper held the neck and the right metallic arm of the barbarian, using the momentum of his impetus to use his weight against him.

He made the man trip on his foot, losing his balance. Then, with all his might, Casper forced his neck down, against the table behind him.

The face of the man got smashed in the table, crumpling its surface.

Casper raised his head again and then slammed it against the table once more, and once more, until it could not bear any more pressure, and its legs warped, making the table fell to the side.

The body of the giant man remained motionless on the floor.

Casper looked coldly at him.

"I warned to you, didn't I? You deserved it." He stared at all of the other prisoners around, his eyes were filled with murderous intent towards each person there.

If it was someone else, the inmates would not care at all to keep trying to beat him. However, Casper was on another level.

He had fought with numerous enemies attacking him at the same time, even won a fight one-on-one with that giant… and he was still unscathed.

Well, his shoulder and forearm were bleeding, and he was walking awkwardly, but no one could land a good blow on him to cause any of those wounds. And he was already bandaged there, so it was past harm that he suffered.

The prisoners were not sure but… how many of their comrades were dead, and who was indeed fainted? How many Casper could kill, possibly? Was it worth to keep fighting him just because of a grudge against the Jarls?

They concluded that it was a gamble that was not worth the risk.

The Ridire that was spotting all the fight remained paralyzed in the same place, looking astonished at what Casper just did. The White warrior even gave him a threatening glance, which sent chills down his spine and made him get his gun prepared for any actions.

He called the other guards, saying that the welcoming had ended and that they must get there to help to organize that mess.

Casper walked through the canteen, until the balcony.

The person serving the food looked to him as if that type of thing always happened and just served him normally.

Casper returned, took a sit in one of the still usable tables, and started to eat quietly. Someone sat with him, also with food.

"What are you doing here," Casper asked, grumpy.

"Don't be so gross with Anton. Anton did nothing to harm you. Anton just kept looking." The middle-aged-looking man shrugged, taking some bites of his tasteless food.

"And Anton doesn't have any responsibilities regarding your life, so… Anton didn't really must have helped."

"You have a good point there." Casper giggled.

Then, the other prisoners that did not get so harmed also went to get some food, and that lunchtime remained silent until it ended.
