"Hey, Are you alright" Jake asked looking up at Anna's unblinking eyes, he could see the fear that hid behind those blue unblinking eyes.
She nodded in response marveling at the thought of someone in Jake's state asking if she was alright. "How long was I out for?"
"Nine hours, give or take" she shrugged "are you okay?" she asked, reaching out her hand to feel his forehead.
"What of Levi" Jake suddenly remembered, he jumped up and turned frantically.
He must not have heard Anna say she was off to check on Levi.
His eyes darted around the dimly illuminated space "he's alright" Anna assured him, pressing him by his chest back to the mat just as he caught sight of Levi lying a little to his right and Kayla bent over him.
"He's not awake yet but Kayla has healed most of his injuries"
"Phew" Jake breathed a sigh of relief. It was already late into the night.
The moonlight did a poor job of illuminating their surrounding but with the help of the light from the fire, they could see a reasonable distance from where they sat.
"You guys can catch some sleep, I'll take first watch" Jake called to the others where they sat in front of the fire.
Percy was already slurping down the remaining contents of his plate, he had been reluctant to eat, but after seeing Jake wake up, his reluctance eased up a bit. It took a lot more arguing and threats from Lisa to eventually get him to eat.
"Jake, you are in no shape to take watch" Anna frowned at him "I'll take first watch"
"Anna is right" Lisa joined in the rebuke, "you should rest and regain some energy, you will need it"
Percy nodded his head and clapped Jake's back as he and Tony moved to the other side to carry Levi into the tent.
"I'll take next watch" Percy added as he lifted Levi.
They didn't need to spell it out, their exchanged looks had said it all.
Everyone except Anna and Jake retired for the day.
Jake propped himself up on the log they used as a bench.
Anna supported him by his shoulders so he could get into a sitting position.
"What did you guys do the entire nine hours" Jake asked, trying to break the hovering silence.
"Not much, when you blacked out it was all chaos and panic.
With you down, Levi too, Percy and Kayla no where to be found we panicked.
Tony and Lisa were just as confused as I was, neither of them knew a thing about medicine or first aid.
I had to quickly administer first aid with my slight knowledge of healing. We had to immediately mount the tent and make a fire so we could get you both some heat. I could barely feel Levi's pulse, I was scared to death.
Then Kayla appeared, I was so glad she came when she did"
"Its nice" Jake smiled
"What is?"
"your work, the bandages are well tapered"
"It isn't" Anna frowned facing the floor "Kayla redid it" Jake almost laughed out but caught a look of warning in Anna's eyes and quickly covered his mouth smothering the giggle.
"How did you guys manage the smaller demon. I could see you guys facing some difficulty with it"
Anna didn't want to answer the question, she still felt bad that Jake and Levi had been the main focus of the gargoyle's wrath while they had just escaped with barely scratches.
She evaded the question, but was soon yawning.
"Thanks" Jake told her
"For what?"
"For having our backs. We might've died"
"I'm just glad you're okay" Anna yawned again.
As Jake stared into the fire he felt a slight weight fall in his shoulder, it was Anna she had fallen asleep.
"So much for first watch" he muttered. It had been a long day, he stroked her long dark hair until he could hear her slow even breath.
"How long is he going to be like this?" Jake asked Kayla "I don't know, he was pretty banged up yesterday" Levi still lay motionless for almost 24 hours now.
'We have to do something' Jake thought they could not move with Levi in this state and they definitely couldn't risk carrying him as he had a few broken ribs. Jake winced painfully as he bent over a bag on the floor.
"We must return to school today" Jake said, more to himself than to anyone
"Percy, Tony" They came gliding over as Jake hobbled to meet them. He was feeling quite better though he was not completely healed, there was still a limp to his gait.
"What are we going to do with Levi" Percy asked as they reached Jake
"We have to build a makeshift stretcher. We must get to school today so Levi can receive professional medical attention"
"So, we have to get some sticks" Tony said
"Exactly" Jake was glad they understood where he was going .
"Let's pack up" Jake said to the girls who were just waking up.
They had to set off immediately, Jake couldn't bear seeing Levi in such a state not minding he was also in coma.
It didn't take much time for Percy and Tony to return with the sticks, they cut two of each the same length and got a mat.
Weaving the mat into the sticks was no easy task, they had to make it as tight as possible.
In less than an hour everything was set.
They out Levi on the make shift stretcher and grabbed it, the remaining bags went up and off they went.
Lisa heaved a sigh of relief as she saw the welcoming structure of the school gate. As they approached the gate, it opened.
Argus was already there as if expecting their arrival
"This way" he said, leading them to the nurse. He seemed like he already knew what had happened or so Anna thought.
