Chapter 18 - Psychometry

Various and serving as Paragon Knights, temporary and permanent, scattered in the easternmost of the Light Kingdom's territory in search of the Mana Beasts' lair.

Simultaneously, a single kept his distance from everyone, investigating the place on his own.

After he bent his body to touch the ground, his eyes shone dazzlingly.

[Psychometry activated]

Crunch, crunch, crunch, crunch...

Crunch, crunch, crunch, crunch...

Crunch, crunch, crunch, crunch...

The loud, muffled grinding noises of the flight of frightened and crazed Mana Beasts's endless heavy footsteps that shook the forest violently rumbled in Liam's ears.

Clang, clang, clang...

"Kiieeecck?!"

"AHHHhhhh..."

whizzing sounds, weapons colliding against the monsters' skin, Paragon Knights' piercing cries, inaudible voices from afar, and muffled Mana Beasts' roars simultaneously reverberated throughout the vast creepy forest as Liam found himself floating a few centimeters from the ground.

He promptly inspected his body and saw his lower body having a ghost-like tail that anyone on Earth could visualize about ghosts in any horror movies while his upper body remained the same.

He consecutively looked at each of his hands in front of his torso and mumbled, "I see... I'm a ghost in this spectral presentation."

"Find the princess!"

A Paragon Knight from not so far away caught Liam's attention, intriguing him to float towards the voice.

"Ahhhh! Commander help!" the Paragon Knight, whose body was in between a voracious Mana Beast's sharp teeth, shouted before it ravaged his body horrifically.

"We wouldn't last long like this, Commander. We have about twenty people remain–" before the Paragon Knight could finish her sentence, another Mana Beast vigorously chomped her upper body in an instant, squirting a substantial amount of blood on the Paragon Knight Commander she was talking to.

It fretted the Paragon Knight Commander!

'Tsk! I can't return to the Kingdom without the princess,' thought the Paragon Knight Commander as he proceeded to slash one of the Mana Beasts on the head.

A plentiful amount of blood immediately dripped from Liam's nose as the spectral presentation of the past in his current location ended.

'Ugggghhh... I can only peer into the past that short?!' complained Liam as he painstakingly massaged his head using his right hand from the considerable amount of dizziness he gained from using the strenuous skill called .

Locating the Mana Beasts was a grueling task!

Well, he only played along to the Light Kingdom's plan to search for the Mana Beasts' location as they hoped to avenge the princess.

But thanks to his detective adroitness, he hastily grabbed the opportunity to amass necessary information about the night of the Blood Moon, when Princess Celestia died.

Sweat had broken out from the pores on Liam's body as he wiped the blood on his face.

In an effort not to show his discomfort, Liam kept his face expressionless while he was approaching Theon.

Theon continued to give him a cold shoulder as if he was annoying the moment the former's eyes landed on him.

Once Liam felt the irritating, filthy dust covering his getup, it made him think of an exciting, cold shower.

An extraordinarily stimulating thing for a man who has germaphobia.

Imagining the water dripping on every inch of his skin, finally cleansing him from every unclean particle that had clung to him.

He fought every muscle of his body from hurling himself on the inviting waters that gushed freely and abundantly below the bridge, heading towards the enormous castle of the Light Kingdom.

This is why Liam aimed to finish his missions at a very rapid rate back on Earth!

He couldn't withstand being dirty for too long.

While Liam was battling with himself, Theon appeared to be unbothered.

The Paragon Knight Commander walked on, his metal armor glinting against the sunlight as he continued to march forward.

Clang, clang, clang...

Clang, clang, clang...

Clang, clang, clang...

Heavy footsteps echoed from the various metal armors behind Liam.

The rest of the Paragon Knights were following him and Theon.

"Who's that player? Why is he standing beside our Commander as if he was higher than we?" one of the Paragon Knight Captains, who was directly designated to protect Theon and Liam's rear, asked in suspicion.

They were in the third-highest primacy in the Light Kingdom who can lead a squad of Paragon Knights to perform tasks given by King Paragus.

On the other hand, Paragon Knight Commanders have the same power and greater by having the privilege to lead a battalion of Paragon Knights with some Captains in it.

"Something's strange with that fellow. I couldn't sense his cultivation level by his mana. No, let me correct that. I couldn't sense his mana at all. Was he that strong?" the other Paragon Knight Captain elucidated.

"Maybe his species was one of the tops in the higher species caliber," a third Paragon Knight Captain suggested.

Among the crowd of Paragon Knights behind the Captains, a young, dark-skinned man clad with a hooded full-body cloak narrowed his eyes as he examined Liam.

'Liam Kai Smith, the World's Greatest Hero and United States of America's Pride, what are you doing here?' the mysterious man asked inwardly.

The quests in tracking down the monstrous beasts that had caused havoc in the kingdom turned out to be unsuccessful as Liam remained silent about the information he gathered through earlier.

As they entered the castle's entryway, the Paragon Knights began to disperse while Liam and Theon headed straight for the Castle doors. The Light King's chamber was in the highest part of the castle, protected by several rotating invisible force fields that could only be penetrated if the Light King himself allowed it.

Iridescent torch lights lined the hallways, giving off a warm and cozy atmosphere around the palace as Liam closely tailed Theon.

The Light Kingdom's banner exhibited a white dove-like bird, its wings spread open as if it was preparing to fly.

King Paragus was sitting on his extravagant throne when Liam and the Paragon Knight Commander entered the chamber.

Upon coming close to the Light King, Theon non-threateningly pulled his sword from its sheath, holding on to the handle firmly while the tip touched the floor.

The Paragon Knight Commander dropped on one knee. His other leg was bent accordingly as he paid his respect to his King.

"Forgive me, King Paragus, I bear no good news. The Mana Beasts are nowhere to be found."

"That's impossible! How could that many beasts hide from us? It seems these creatures have become smarter after intaking the Mana Rain."

"I already told you this, Milord, but that is the only explanation I could think of. The Mana Beasts might be hiding in the Dark Empire's territory. Are you certain that they were patrolling their territories, Milord?" Theon courteously queried.

After the Light King calmed himself a bit, he added, "Forget that, Theon. We could do nothing about them. Anyway, thank you for your effort, Theon. And you too, Ronin, I am indebted to you as well even though this was part of the quests you asked for. Nonetheless, I shall thank the entire battalion."

Liam bowed, acknowledging the Light King's gratitude.

"I am at your service, King Paragus. Use me as you may while I am here."

"Thank you, Ronin, I highly appreciate the refreshing atmosphere you're bringing, especially at our Kingdom's current plight. Our kingdom needs more temporary knights like you."

Liam uncontrollably sneered, facing the floor as he laughed inwardly after he heard the Light King's kind words.

If the Light King would only find out Liam's real intentions for approaching him, King Paragus would certainly take back from using those genuine words he used to refer to him.

BOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!

Instantly, something swooped down from the sky and crashed on the protected chamber's balcony as if there was a meteor.

Consequently, specks of dust clouded the entire chamber, preventing everyone inside to catch a glimpse of what fell on the balcony.

'Impossible! Several layers of indestructible force fields protected this chamber. What could fall from the sky and reduce half of the chamber into dust?!' Theon annoyingly asked, pressing his feet onto the floor as hard as he could to retain his balance.

'This animosity… You are…,' thought King Paragus.
