Chereads / The Artful Match / Chapter 3 - 3 Lost

Chapter 3 - 3 Lost

Brielle blocked the dagger and turned to block the attack from the vampire. "You are the one that started this bullshit. Now I will be the one that ends it. Lifting her sword up, she jabs it forward straight into the vampire's heart. She watches as the body crumbles, turning into ash. Gasping for air, she sheaths the sword and stands up. Pulling out her cell phone, she calls Leo. "The target was eliminated, but the package had already perished before we got here." She could hear the sigh that came from the other line.

"Well, at least there is one less killer vampire. How did the girl die?" Leo was in the basement

"You make it sound like you found the other three targets," Brielle says this and looks around the room before her eyes settle on the body of the young girl. "She was drained of all the blood in her body, and there were a lot of victims here. Her body was discarded on a pile of different types of humans."

"The reason I sound like it is all clear is because it is. When you killed the target, it brought upon the demise of its partner. Then I cleared the other two with ease. I'll head on up and see the damage." Leo snapped the phone shut and raced to the location that Brielle was.

After the call hung up, she started taking pictures of all the dead bodies. Making sure that the faces were included. Feeling someone enter the room, she turned sharply with a dagger in her hand.

Leo grabbed her wrist and looked her in the eyes. "It's just me, Bree. You did well. You already saved one girl today." He let her go when the dagger fell to the ground.

"It just feels empty. I was really hoping that we could save one more, but that is the nature of this fucking job." She picked up the dagger and reattached it to the holder under her long-sleeved shirt. Moving back to the door, she watched Leo take care of the rest of the work for the day.

Leo was keeping an eye on Brielle while calling the cleanup crews. Once that was done, he left the room and dragged Brielle with them. "There are no more targets for you today. Go home and rest. I will make sure that Will drops you off before we take off." He snatched her work phone before she could protest.

"I'm not that tired, Leo. You can't do this to me yet. You are not the leader…." The look she gets from Leo has her sighing. "Fine, just take me home then." She gets in the car and slams the door shut in his face.

Will looks from Leo to Brielle then back to Leo. "So where to?"

"We're taking Brielle home. She needs to rest." Leo stares out the window ignoring the death glare from Brielle. "I mean it, Bree, if you so much as try to come to the company later today, I will block your login."

For fuck sacks Leo. I already agreed to go home. Why are you so instant on pushing me. If anything, you are the one that needs to be banned from the office." Saying this causes Leo to turn, and the two have a glaring match.

Sighing, Will starts the car up and takes Brielle to her house. "Bree does make a good point. You have been going nonstop since you met Kitty and let her slip from your fingers." This earns him a glare from Leo.

Now that the staring match was over, Brielle stared out the blacked-out windows watching as the houses went by. The car stops in front of her apartment. "Thanks for the ride. Make sure that she is safe on the rest of the trip back."

"Who do you take me fo9r? I will not let a secured package get injured or lost. Just get some rest, Bree." Leo shakes his head and gives her a wave.

Will looked back and sighed, "I will see what I can do about this brute. I get the feeling that shit will be hectic. See you tomorrow."

Slamming the door, she flips the bird at Leo. Turning, Brielle pulled out her keys and tapped the key fob to the sensor, and the door said, 'Please enter the main door.' Pulling the door open, she walks right to the elevator to push the button. As she waits for the elevator, she pills out the personal phone and looks at the hunter app, sighing. 'I bet that asshole has blocked my access already. The doors to the right ding, getting on, she presses the button for the twenty-fourth floor. The elevator moves fast. She steps out, looking at the door in front of her before sticking the key into the keyhole. Quickly, she runs to the alarm and disarms it. Collecting her keys, she slams the door and looks at her open-floor concept apartment. The living room had a beige couch that had cared wooden legs that reminded her of little vases, the edges of the bottom of the couch and along the front had round bronze rivets holding it together, and to make this better, it had a mountain of throw pillows. Flopping down on the couch, she stares up at the painting she bought from the painter Kathy Winters sighing. 'If it was not for the fact that this came out in my time of need, I would've never been able to bring myself to buy something so dark but amazing.'

The painting had the word Lost written in red with a handwritten cursive. The painting was a shadow of a girl that seemed to be confused and lost in a maze. She seemed to be looking for a way out, but at that moment, she was glazing behind her. The hedges were detailed with green throne vines. On the shadow girl were some red scratches from the vines. The night sky was pitch dark with no stars or moon to guild the path ahead. The girl carried a candle in a brass holder. In the shadows were evil demons with glowing red eyes.
