"Do you mean the day I was born?" Min asked, to which Yuna nodded. "I was born on December 22,"
"What year?"
"899,"
Yuna's jaw dropped when she heard Min's reply. If he was born in the year 899, thenโฆ?
'Wait, let's calm down and stick to facts, Song Yuna,' Yuna mumbled to herself. 'It is better to clarify things than let misunderstandings arise, right?'
She always knew that the year she was in was definitely not the twenty-first century, just basing on the whole atmosphere of the place and clothes. But to think that someone confirmed her suspicions was shocking to her. It was definitely the time for her to get to know more about the period she was in.
"How old are you now?" Yuna was so expectant of Min's answer that her face slowly got closer to the young man she was talking to.
Min used his index finger and slowly pushed Yuna's forehead away from him and said, "Won't you be able to calculate that knowing the year you are currently in?"
"The thing is," Yuna exhaled. "I don't know the year that I am currently in, okay?"
Min was silent and just stared at Yuna from head to toe. She became conscious about her outfit for the first time in forever.
"What are you looking at?" Yuna glared at the young man in front of her and covered her body with her two arms. "Are you a pervert?"
"What?" His brows snapped together, and his forehead even creased. "Excuse me, lady. Did you just say I am a pervert?"
It did not seem like Min was fond of what Yuna said. It was as if she was accusing him of being one.
"I-it was because you looked at me weirdly," Yuna blinked fast as she slightly felt apologetic for calling the guy a pervert. "It seemed like you were looking at me with the eyes of a pervert."
Min crossed his arms and slightly leaned over. "I scanned you from head to toe because you were wearing strange clothes, lady." He continued, "It did not seem like you were from the Song Dynasty too. I am sure that their clothes are not like what you are wearing."
Sweat trickled down on Yuna's forehead as she gulped. She became nervous as it seemed like this young man knew that she was a questionable human being present in the place.
If she were to get herself caught, she would be treated either like a goddess or someone who would be the cause of the fall of the country.
Yuna thought that she was pretty and charming enough to be treated at least as s noblewoman than someone who would be accused of treason, with her being the whole reason why Goguryeo would collapse.
Now that she thought about it, Min mentioned the year being in 918. And as far as Yuna could remember, that year became the unification of the Three Kingdoms of Goguryeo, Silla, and Baekje.
If the merchants called this place Goguryeo, it meant that the three kingdoms had not been united yet.
Traveling too far would be something Yuna would not want to do for now. She knew nothing about the place, and if ever she might end up going to another kingdom, it would be the end of her life.
These kingdoms would definitely obsess over their boundaries.
Yuna sighed.
Rin was nowhere out of sight. Yuna was stuck with this man who seemed to be either a real commoner who knew Chinese. Or a nobleman who's pretending as a commoner due to family ancestors being accused of treason.
She felt discouraged.
"Did you understand what I said earlier?" Yuna asked.
"Of course," Min raised his right eyebrow. "You labeled me as a pervert, lady."
"No, that is not it!" Yuna yelled. When she realized that her personality showed again, she cleared her throat and started speaking in a soft voice. "I mean, I did not mean to label you as a pervert." She sweetly smiled, hoping that it would charm the man. "I meant to ask if you understood what I said earlier?"
Min continued to furrow his brows and confusingly looked at her.
"You laughed when I spoke Chinese," Yuna explained. "Did you understand what I said earlier?"
"No," Shaking his head left and right, Min spoke, "I just laughed because the merchants' face looked funny."
Yuna squinted her eyes as if she was sensing something else from the guy. It was nearly impossible for him not to understand it when he laughed at the exact moment.
It really seemed like Min understood what he said.
Was he lying to her?
"I am just a commoner, lady," Min explained. "How could a commoner know how to speak the language of the land of Song Dynasty?"
Well, he made sense. He wore traditional clothes, cotton as the cloth, not silk, and although his handsome features alone could make you think of him as a nobleman, it was most likely 60% that he was a commoner.
"Okay," Yuna simply said.
"Isn't it your turn to share what year you were born?" Min asked. "Lady Yuna?"
Yuna pretended to clear her throat and coughed, "I already told you earlier, sir."
"You have not," Min retaliated back. "I shared mine, but you are not willing to say yours?" He continued, "Are you someone who tails people and gathers information?"
"No! Certainly not," Yuna raised both of her hands and waved them frantically to disagree. "As I said earlier, I am someone who came from the land of the Song Dynasty, young sir."
"Then tell me, what year are you born?" Min pressed on with the question. "Are you older or younger than I am?"
Yuna hated lying, but telling this guy about her being born in the year 1998 would be even weirder. She might be labeled as a madwoman who came from the land of the Song Dynasty.
"Say it," Min said. "Or are you hiding a secret?"
Yuna momentarily panicked. She could feel her palms getting sweaty with how Min was interrogating her.
"Sister!" A cute voice suddenly called her, and when she turned her head around, she sighed in relief.
