Mother touched my cheek.
"No, Darling. Had you been designed, you would have been a boy. It would have been easier to turn you into a Power Triad if you had come out as a boy."
"Why?"
Mother grimaced. "People are more accepting of a man with two wives than they are of a woman with two husbands. That's why."
I nodded. It made perfect sense, in the world we live in.
Mother sighed. "In any case, Gabriel simply showed zero signs of interest in any of the female mages around his age."
She gave a chuckle. "We thought he was of the homosexual persuasion."
My jaw dropped. Gabriel was not even close to being a homosexual!
I shook my head with knowing eyes.
"Oh you don't have to convince me." Mother laughed.
"I see the way he looks at you when he thinks no one is watching, and how protective he is of you. It was a classic case of love-at-first-sight, and he got hit really hard."
