Chapter 53 - History Lessons

*Boom! *

The loud crack of thunder shook the tent Asd and the Satyrs were in. all three of them were huddle around as Professor Mona whispered what Asd would call Tall tales, but then again this was a history lesson, apparently it was a reward for Asd for creating the glow ball, and in such a unique way too. Just before the storm rolled in, Boris had been besides himself with giddiness about how his teachings paid off, but Asd knew this was just the beginning and that apart from just being a simple light fixture, the Glow ball had no practical use, especially since its brightness could not be controlled, and there was practically no one and off switch.

That was just a few hours ago, and since then Asd has been looking over and reviewing his invention and trying to figure out ways to improve it, and even more to figure out a way that he could probably weaponized it. It wouldn't be much use to him if he couldn't use it in a fight. The reason why he was aiming for the intellectual part of magic was because he wanted to discover different methods to protect himself, even before he is drawn into a fight. That was a long road to go down, but Asd wasn't scared, he knew somehow and someway he would make it.

"Well there is a story you young Weres should know about…. Well it isn't really about a story, but it is more like a legend or better yet a prophecy." Professor Mona said in hushed whispers as Gretel suddenly asked, a lot bolder after spending close to an hour with Mohali.

"Well a prophecy is like a promise. It's the world making us a promise of what will happen in the future, or you could simply say a prophecy tells us what will happen in the future. Do you understand young Gretel?" she asked with a smile, as the young satyr gave her a nod in response.

Since he's woken up the other Satyr Hansel only spoke a few words, and that was only to Asd. If he wanted to ask a question he would turn to Asd, ignoring every effort Professor Mona made to communicate with him. Asd was worried for them both, especially as it seems that Gretel was eating right out of the palm of professor Mona, falling for all her fake smiles and awe filled stories. Neither Hansel or Gretel had said anything about how they came to be in the forest, under the care of a bear. Sure this location used to be ancestral home of the satyrs, but it has been mostly scoured clean, a herd of Satyrs would have been discovered if it actually existed. Which mad their existence an enigma, especially since they were friends and not siblings. There was an inconsistency, but Asd hoped that eventually they would open up to him and not to Mona. Especially if there were other Satyrs hidden within the forest.

"Once upon a time, all the lands of Boria lived on the light and the shadows of the gods. They governed various aspects of reality and made sure all that lives thrived under their vigilance. The gods were all powerful, but they couldn't interfere in the lives of mortals, even prayers had to be answered under the most extreme of circumstances. It was an age so dark that it has been stricken from all but a few records. We knew the gods existed, we saw their works around us and felt their power, but we were disconnected, because our mortality made us limited in understanding and connecting to the divine. And so the universe gave us a bridge.

The true custodians of reality. Gods are the keepers of the aspects of reality, their personification, which is why there are quite a few gods. There are even legends that mortals can also ascend to become gods of their own, presiding over a domain or an aspect of reality that has not been claimed. But those are just mere rumors; gods are still bound by the rules of reality, it is why they could never connect with the mortals. So the dragons awoke from their eternal slumber, they who were there when reality was first born, the dragons that were both mortal and immortal, mundane and divine, holy and demonic, heroes and monsters.

The dragons taught the mortals how to connect with the gods, and how to bring the teachings and light of the gods down to Boria. They taught us how to make temples. And in the process of understanding the gods and communing with them, the dragons taught mortals magic. So that we may grow and understand the true power of the gods, to improve our nature so that we can be as close as perfect to the gods and to be able to carry out their tasks very well. It was an age of prosperity and light, but all good things do not last.

There were as many gods as there were races on Boria, and soon some began to feel jealous of the other. The nature of mortals had seeped into the gods they serve, for as the temples bridged the gap between the mortal and the divine, so too did it bridge the gap between virtue and iniquity. Gods became bad and it started wars amongst their followers. Boria was sundered by their wars, the skies blackened and the seas red with the blood of mortals while the ichor of gods rained down to the thirty earth, bringing with it the legacy and powers of fallen gods. During this hard times the gods fell in droves and there seemed to be no end to the war.

Mortals of all kinds sought power, the kind that would turn the war in their favor or the favor of their gods. And there was only one power that can match those of the gods… the power of the dragons. But the dragons were just as worshipped as the gods, in fact many of the gods had thrown their lots in with the dragons, forming what came to be known as the court of the dragon emperor. And there were races that served the dragons, chief amongst them were the Beast-Man/Were-People. There were eight thrones for the beast kings as they were known, and each throne is held by the most capable. But it has mainly been held by the centaurs, the Mer-folk, the Scorpios, the werewolf, the Werelions, the Kitsunes and the Avians. The seat has changed between other races, with capable leaders challenging for a spot on the council and throne of the beast kings,

They repelled the forces that came for the power and magic of the dragons, besting gods and mortals alike, the divine and the mundane fell to their combined might. And the thing about the beast people was that every time they defeat you, they take a piece of your soul, of your power and it becomes theirs. If you live, then that's a fate worse than death, being alive and knowing a piece of you is gone forever, already a part of someone else.

But the gods were desperate and so too were their followers and the mortals who just wanted the wars to end. So they never stopped coming, until finally the dragons decided that their presence on Boria was causing more harm than good. And so they just left. One fateful day, after a storm just like this, the dragons, the entire court of the dragon emperor vanished and all in Boria were left to wonder what had happened. Their secret mountain could never be found any longer, it was as if a great magic had been released that wiped out the location out of the mind of everyone, the Weres, your ancestors were left without their gods and their dragons, leaving them at the mercy of the other gods and their follows who were driven mad with rage at the fact that ultimate power had been denied them. the war raged and the it ended, there were no more gods to fight as one side had won and the other side had been banished to the underworld of Zoria. Similar to Boria, but darker, without light and life and fueled by the darkest of magic.

But one day a great mountain arose out at sea, and on that mountain live a hag that over the millennia have come to be known as the Three Eyed Oracle. And she gave a prophecy, a prophecy she says was left behind by the court of the Dragon emperor.

The secret to hide a power to gain, to the lost court you seek, a veil untorn. To find that which you desire, power and riches untold, grace and honor and royalty, the grand throne of Boria to claim. The bloodline must be unraveled, the secrets is in the blood, the blood is in the runes. Of Wolf's Honor, and Fox's Cunning, Of Eagle's Majesty and Serpent's Guile, all beholden to Shark's Ferocity and Lion's Pride. The secret is in the blood, the blood is in the runes, the runes is in the land and the land is in the veil, a Dragon's Wrath to Unleash… Death to all Life." Asd felt a chill go down his spine as Professor Mona raised her head up to look at him, a knowing glance etched on her face, and then.

"Attack! Bug-Bears! Bug-Bears arck!"
