Asd woke up with an extremely skull crushing headache, for a moment it was all he knew even as his stat sheet faded into and out of focus. It didn't last though, the pain vanished a few seconds after he woke up, his healing ability probably taking care of it. He sat up, paying attention to the information in front of him as he tried to get his bearings. Apparently he was now an Alpha, which was good or not; because Asd knew this meant more responsibilities. And at the moment more responsibilities aren't what he wanted or was aiming for. However, there was a lot of growth across the board, he did feel stronger and not just because of him becoming an alpha, but because of this place, there was something about this cavern.
And with a stronger Mana connection he could actually feel it. It was popular consensus that mana stats were hard to level up, even for Triskele mages with the ability of their stats to symbiotically grow by feeding off each other. Some people become mages and never have their stats grow, or maybe would have it grow at least three times to at most ten or twelve times over the course of their life. Asd estimated it would have taken him another year to experience any sort of growth, sometimes a mage would have a feel for this kind of things. But the fight with the Zaragites and the now deceased alpha Lucian seems to have stimulated his potential, not to mention that this cavern was chock full with ambient mana that was extremely pure. He felt it before but with a stronger Mana connection it was as if he was drowning in it.
[Master how are you feeling!] a voice called out in his head as Asd tried to get up, his legs shaking as he clutched a coarse blanket closer to his body.
"I'm fine Gaia, what happened?" Asd asked, as he looked up and came face to face with a group of kneeling weremen and women. Many of the injured had healed enough that they could move about, the deceased were gathered to the side, and lined up. They would need a funeral, but that has to be carried out by the entire community as is the tradition of the werepeople. Gaia was flying about in the form of a dull iron grey mosquito with not a sound except for her speaking. Asd decided to just address the wisp as a her, contemplating the gender of a magically born creature was beyond exhausting.
[They cleaned you up and got you some clothes master. They've been kneeling there for three hours now…... why are they doing that?] Gaia asked as her form pulsed yellow in confusion. Asd rolled his eyes as he stood up to his full height, that somehow had gone up an inch or two, maybe three of four because he felt taller and bigger.
"I explain it to you later Gaia, let me take care of this situation first." Asd said to the wisp as he turned his attention to the kneeling Weres and then looked back at the tree behind him. Roland was still bound to it, and based on the fierce look on his face, the bloody human was waiting for Asd to come set him free.
Asd felt as if he was in a crossroads of sorts, he was a bit shaken and flashes of his fight with Lucian kept on dancing within his mind and running through his eyes. He took a life, the first one ever and it left a sort of…. pressure on his heart. He couldn't tell what it was, because it didn't feel like guilt, he was sorry that Lucian had to die, but the lion in him, the alpha that he has become knew that it was a necessary call, and it would be something he would do again, this time without even so much as a hesitation of a chance given for his opponent to surrender. He felt different, he wouldn't say that he was cold per say, but somehow his naiveté seemed to have vanished or was grossly reduced, like he had become another person.
Asd furrowed his eyebrows, he felt like himself and at the same time he didn't. like there was something else slowly becoming a part of him. He turned to Weres who up until this point haven't said a single word, waiting for him to deliver his verdict. But what could he say, while he didn't want to overthink it, this new him was loathe to posture and waste time. Why bother with pretty speeches and any sort of bloody assurance that's practically useless in the grand scheme of things. He was the alpha, the tempo to any song or music would be decided by no one other than him. He needed answers but he didn't think this rabble in front of him had it, maybe the old weretiger would know what was up with him.
"Find a way to transport the dead and gather any supplies and light source you can find. We leave here within the hour, now get to it."
There was a chorus of 'yes Alpha' as they all got up from their kneeling positions and set about trying to complete the task that Asd had given to them.
He felt powerful, just his words alone seemed to carry with an aura and a vibration that would leave even someone with the staunchest of wills extremely shaken. And his mutated wind element attribute did not make anything easier, for him every sound made was that much more impactful. Asd liked it, there seemed to be a sort of special connection between him and the element wind as opposed to his fire and earth…. He wasn't sure what it was; but it was oddly…. Liberating. He shook his head and held the blanket tighter to himself as he walked towards Roland, moving closer until his now six foot 7 frame towered over the 5 foot 8 human. Asd removed the gag around his mouth.
"How inconsistent and weak must you be? Are you the trash they sent to retrieve me? I feel befouled to be in your presence, there was no efficiency in the way you carried out your task and in more than one occasion your recklessness almost cost me my life. But what more can I expect from a filthy slave! I should—mmphh!"
Asd had heard enough, he replaced the gag and sat with his back against the tree, watching as the other Weres went about trying to complete the task he had given them. he fell into a pensive mood as a thought crossed his head, then he looked up at Gaia who has been silent so far.
"You've completely assimilated with the mana interface right?" he asked the wisp in the form of a mosquito.
[Yes I have master, and I can feel the connection between me and the academy's network. I'm not yet strong enough to completely cut ourselves off from it, but I can now alter the information they would be receiving from our interface feed. And even more than that I now have access to their memory banks, there's a whole virtual library filled with the memories and experience of thousands of mages who have come through the academy. By my estimate, though I've not finished compiling and analyzing yet, there are at least 587 individual spells from all four primary elements and three secondary elements.
Then there is information on spells for other classes, rituals, ceremonies, rune crafting knowledge, magical smiting, alchemy, botany, medicine, and theories on the creations of spells by the thousands. And I've not finished compiling it yet due to how much information is here. Master with this you can probably build and run your own school. You might need to worry about resources and locations and housing, but ultimately master you have all of the knowledge required to train anyone from the 0th novice rank to a 4th circle rank mage. Or if that route doesn't interest you master; you have enough knowledge here to make and run your own army of mages.]
And all Asd could say to that was a dumfounded "Oh!"
