Chereads / Asd: A Werelion's Journey To Arcane Supremacy / Chapter 37 - Elemental Manipulation

Chapter 37 - Elemental Manipulation

"Additionally, some of the more talented students would be assigned to two or three extra classes. However, you would have to pick a primary class, and that is what you would be tested upon. Now without further ado lets dive into today's lesson."

Asd felt a twitch of annoyance, but it wasn't from him. The emotion was rather foreign and seemed to coming to him from an invisible connection. Like a line was tethered to him, curious he followed that line until he came upon a raging ball of anger and wrath. She noticed him immediately, and for a moment all of that rage and anger was thrown into the connection along with a power that was unlike anything he has ever felt. She yelled, but he couldn't hear it, not with his ears at least, but with his mind, his soul.

"GET OUT!" Asd winced as his head rang and his heart pounded so hard in his chest he felt blood rushing up from the back of his throat. He wanted to quickly move hos awareness away from that connection, but his Lion was pissed off as the beast latched onto the connection and roared back in defiance, making sure to send his own rage and an image of lust driven Chelsea begging and asking for more. Anger and wrath quickly changed into disbelief and embarrassment as Asd quickly got the hell out of there, but not without letting her know how smug he felt and showing an appreciation to his lion by giving the beast a mental pat on his head. what he got in return was a snort of derision, but he knew that large cat was just as happy about turning tables as he was. He shifted his attention back to Hogrin, knowing that he would probably have to pay for that later.

"Our focus today would be on elemental manipulation. Now this art if extremely obscure or maybe it would be easier to say hard. You might be attributed to an element, but very few if any ever get to the point of being able to control with brute force, rather than shape it and give it form and purpose with the use of draconic runes to create spells. Now the thing about elemental manipulation is that you can't actually do anything with it. The elements are much to power for you to control, even if your connection to them is Level 7 which is the highest level of connection possible for any mortal being. Any higher than that and you have to be a demi-god." Hogrin paused and looked around the class making sure that all of the students were following his lesson. After noticing that they all were focused on him he continued.

"The aim of all mages, is to reach the pinnacle of elemental manipulation. Because at that stage you don't need to use runes to shape the spells, to give purpose to your element and direction. Your very will is all that's needed to shape and give form to the element. No need for spell modules, rune formations and whatnot. The true pinnacle of magic…. Pure. Unhindered. Manipulation. Of. The. Elements!"

It was quite easy to tell that Hogrin was very passionate about this particular subject, there was a look of happiness, an eagerness that Asd has never seen before on his face. It seems this pinnacle of magic was something that was highly sought after, by himself Asd has never actively tried to manipulate the elements, and frankly speaking he didn't think it would possible, as he had what was probably the most abysmal control. Sure his control has improved, but his connection and sensitivity was so high that the sheer weight of magic made it incredibly hard for him to control what was at his disposal.

Most of the time he felt like he was in the middle of an ocean being driven by the currents. He knew he had the capability to swim against it, but it was hard, so damn hard. Which was why he noticed, along with an astute observation from Gaia that he tends to overpower the spells he knew due to his lack of control. He was lucky that he seemed to have an affinity with Runes, or better yet quite an understanding of them, so his spell modules were three times as sturdy as those of normal people, making it possible for them withstand his onslaught of mana every time he wants to use a spell. For example, the spell [Hot Hand] was just powerful enough to perhaps singe of the hair on a person's arm, but when Asd used cast the spell it was hot enough to turn metal red hot just after a few seconds of contact.

"The method to achieve Elemental manipulation is somewhat obscure, its different for every element as it is different for everybody. Some are lucky enough or talented enough to discover it. However more often than not such people are at least 3rd circle mages, but that in itself is extremely rare and hints of elemental manipulation doesn't start showing until the 5th circle or at the peak of 7th circle where magic comes full circle, one step below pseudo godhood, the realm of the demi-gods. And yes I know that term is probably unfamiliar to you, but we shall cover that another day, the subjects on demi-gods are a bit…. broad.

Now as I was saying, Elemental manipulation helps in a variety of ways. For some they don't ever manage to go beyond just setting their hands on fire of creating a small gust of wind. But elemental manipulation, even if you don't realize it, is what mostly helps in the creation of new spells, not just the draconic runes that shape, funnel and give purpose to mana. Now don't get me wrong, elemental manipulation isn't all powerful, the highest of elemental manipulation displays ever recorded was some three hundred years ago when an arch-mage controlled sea water the size of a house to fish for a starving village.

Sure it might sound really novel, but it's incredibly hard to control making it a nightmare for those with weak or mild control over mana. In fact, elemental manipulation could be considered to be nothing more than just a highly coveted auxiliary skill. It boosts the power of your spells by a factor as low as 50% to as high as a 1000%. But on its own, you can't really do much with it. It is the pinnacle of all magic, but it's not required to go past the top, which is why not many people bother themselves with it. Only those who truly live for Magic, those who strive to go the distance to see just how far the arcane take them follow this route. And more often than not they end up dead! But those that do survive end up becoming the most powerful of mages, regardless of whether or not they are Triskele mages.

Well that's it for today, there are more detailed books on elemental manipulation in case anyone of you needed further knowledge. A few of them are recorded methods used by your predecessors to achieve elemental manipulation. Now without further ado I bid you all a good day, so study or wait for the bell to ring before heading to your next class."

He disappeared in a pillar of water prompting Asd to raise an eyebrow at that spell. He has seen Professor Hogrin use it a few times, it looked like a sort of movement spell or a teleportation spell. The fact that the element he was utilizing was water made it all the more amazing. Asd felt his Lion snort, apparently it would do to admire the spells of their enemy. Asd shook his head and got up preparing to leave the class when he noticed a group of people heading his way, and leading them all was the bitch he set on fire… the Dean's Granddaughter, Asd sighed to himself as he muttered silently.

"And so trouble comes knocking."
