Chapter 12 - Answers part 10

Kehna's POV

It's been two days now,

It's been two days since my dad burst into rage and since then we haven't exchanged a word with each other. My dad and I never had a father, daughter relationship, but when he arrived at the hospital and said those things he said, I felt like I'd been living with a stranger.

Stella, Ruby, Mr. Garcia and the staffs were supposed to wait downstairs for us because, what my dad was going to discuss, with the so-called doctor was personal.

I was hopelessly standing in front of the doctor's office waiting for my dad. Suddenly the guy I met in the cafeteria, came out of nowhere.

"Hey, you're still here?" I was a bit shocked to see him.

"Yeah, we still have a few things to settle"

"Oh, I see! So... How are you feeling?" He asked in a very weird way, so I knew something wasn't right "You also heard my dad that day, didn't you?" He looked taken back by my question "Yeah... You know I heard it because I was nearby and I think he was that loud, that he could raise the dead" he probably meant it as a joke, but my mind immediately wandered to my mom. He was waiting for me to either smile or laugh, but none of that happened "Sorry, if I crossed the line" I smiled when said that. "It's okay, he could scream as much as he wanted, only if that would bring my mom back"

We discussed what my plans for future were, I told him how much I'd love to go to New York one day and fulfil the dreams of my mom, by building or buying a restaurant, cafe or diner.

"Well, that seems like a great future. I can only see a future where I become so old here, that the younger patients start calling me grandpa" I felt bad, that he had such imaginations. Everyone deserves the chance to dream big. "Come on, stop being so negative. If you continue being this negative, you surely won't leave this place. I bet you're sick of this place" he nodded "But what am I supposed to do? My youth is going wasted and I can't do anything, about it" the pain in his voice was crystal clear "Just stay, positive" after a long silence I decided to ask "What is your name, I mean we've come across each other like twice, and I still don't know your name"

"Mateo" for some kind of reason that name rang a bell in my head and I couldn't figure out why. "And you?"

"Oh...yeah, I'm Kehna" we stared at each other for a while till we heard some footsteps, I knew it was my dad and I was ready for more bad news. "Kehna so since you are leaving soon, I guess you won't be coming back any time soon"

"Yeah, I guess so"

"How about you give me your number?" I gave an uncomfortable look "I mean, you don't have to"

"That's not it. It's... first of all, I don't have my phone with me and I also don't know my digits, and before you say anything" I quickly interrupted "I now know how important it is to know your phone number"

"So you don't have your phone neither do you know your phone number" I nodded. "I'll go get a paper and write down my number, okay?"

"Yeah, if you don't find me here, just know we're downstairs"

"Got it" so he quickly rolled his wheelchair. The door opened revealing my dad. "Let's go," he said emotionless. "What did he say?"

"Well the autopsy said, that your mother was healthy" I wonder where all his emotions went.

We went downstairs to meet the others, and I had totally forgotten about Mateo. "Come on, we'll drive you home" Ruby suggested "What about Stella?" She frowned at my proposal. "We only have four seats plus driver, that's five" I understood what she tried to imply so I didn't argue with her. I went to Stella to say goodbye.

"Hey"

"Hi, how did it go?"

"Apparently the autopsy clarified my mom, being healthy"

"Apparently?" She asked, I then took her to a corner so I didn't have to whisper. "Stella, don't you think my mom can't be healthy and die in such an accident?"

"Speak clearly, Kehna I can't understand what you're trying to say"

"Okay, think about it, is it possible for someone who has completely no health issues to die from one unfortunate accident?"

"So are you trying to say the autopsy was wrong?"

"The autopsy can't be wrong, but what the doctor said can"

"You think the doctor is lying?"

"Yes, he was behaving weird. I mean he didn't let me see my mom and then he didn't let me close to any of her stuff, am I being paranoid?"

"No, of course not. Just go home and rest, okay?"

"Rest? How am I going to rest with all of this going on, huh?"

"Well, if you continue like this without rest, you might really start being paranoid. And I think it's best if you don't see your mom"

"What about you and your dad, how are you going to get home?"

"No worries about that, we'll find some kind of transportation" we agreed on that.

So I went into the car. My dad already occupied the front seat, so I went to the back, where Ruby was.

"What took you so long?" I noticed how curious she was. "I and Stella had to discuss something". She looked sad after, I said that. "Umm, I just remembered you've been here for the past three days and you haven't been home yet"

"No"

"What about your parents do they know, where you're at?"

"Yeah, I called them the day we arrived here. They couldn't come because of work, but they know where I am"

"Oh... okay" it must be hard for her to have parents who are mostly at work, I guess they just want to make sure she has a great life.

In front of Kehna's house,

"Okay, I guess we'll see each other around" what should I give her as a response? Yeah? Okay? See you later? I just couldn't decide. So I nodded and smiled softly. I was about to shut the door but she unexpectedly said something

"You know what, I'll just come by tomorrow"

"Okay, I'll see you tomorrow then" and with that, they drove off.

In the car with Ruby and her driver,

Ruby's POV

"Miguel?" He glanced at the rear mirror before answering. "Yes, mademoiselle William?"

"Do you know if my father is home?"

"He is back from work, but he's probably very busy"

"Very busy?"

"Yes, he was in his office the last time I checked"

"What a surprise" I whispered.

I had to make sure he has nothing to do with what is happening.

When we got home I didn't bother looking for my mom, I directly went upstairs and barged into his office and he didn't flinch at all, on the contrary he was absolutely relaxed and talked in a calm tone. "Ruby, I thought we talked about knocking"

"You know about the death of Kehna's mom?"

"Hmm"

"Swear to me, that you have nothing to do with it"

"Are you by any chance accusing me of murdering your friend's mother?"

"Dad it's really not a great time for chit chat" I glared at him a bit, signalling him that I was serious.

"Okay. I swear I have nothing to do with the death of your friend's mother".

"Can you say it with confidence or at least say it like you mean it. If someone starts accusing you again, do you expect me to defend you like that?"

"I have nothing to do with this whole mess!" He said sternly.

I left the office without uttering a word.
