Author's POV
Kehna and her father went home, that day with grieve. Ruby, Stella and their families proposed to follow them home, but after they saw how stressed they looked, they didn't bother asking them anymore.
On their way home Kehna and her father didn't exchange a word with each other.
As they got home both of them didn't bother to dinner or talk to each other. When Kehna reached her room she laid on her bed waiting for her to be woken up by her mother, so she could tell her all about the crazy nightmare she had, but unfortunately, that never happened so she decided to go to bed.
Surprisingly, she slept without any struggle.
The next day, the first thing she woke up to was the ringing of her phone. She was going to decline the call, but remembered that no one calls so early in the morning for nothing, so she picked up. "Hello?" She said in a sleepy voice "Hi, Kehna!" Ruby squealed loud enough for Kehna to flinch "Ruby! It's literally 5 am, what is so important"
"I know, I'm sorry but yesterday I asked my parents if we could invite you over for lunch or dinner" Kehna groaned silently knowing Ruby called so early just to tell her that. "Okay, me or both my father?" She asked sitting straight on her bed. "Yeah, I think my dad really likes your father, so I guess you should bring him too"
"Okay," she mumbled. Before it got awkward Ruby quickly asked, "So how are you?"
"Hmm... I don't know. I guess I'll have to accept it, but I won't get used to it"
"Well, you don't have to, just take your time and once school starts I'll take care of all your homework," Ruby said and made Kehna confused "You're going to help me do my homework?"
"No, I'm going to make sure you don't miss out on anything, that's what I meant"
"Oh, I thought you were going to help me do my homework" Kehna chuckled slightly "Well if it were so, wouldn't it seem a bit, not Ruby-like?"
"Yeah, I got that. Anyway I'm up now thanks to you"
"Okay, then I'll hang up now," Ruby said wanting to hang up but Kehna quickly interrupted "Wow, why hang up now? You woke me up so suddenly and you're going to hang up now that I'm awake?"
"Yes, because I want to leave you to prepare for later"
"You don't even know if we are going to come"
"Just ask your dad and don't forget to wear your best outfit," she said before ending the call and all Kehna could do was sigh and stand up from her bed.
Kehna walked to the kitchen, she went to the fridge not knowing her father was sitting there because the lights were off. "Good morning to you," her father said and I swear her heart left her body for a second. "Oh, my gosh dad!" She said looking terrified "I'm mean, good morning" she was still breathing heavily, her dad still didn't say anything. "I got a call from Ruby, she said her parents, invited us over"
"For what?" He asked coldly "She asked if we are free for lunch or dinner" he nodded still not looking at Kehna. "Okay, then get ready we'll go for lunch"
Really? Why won't he say something like: "No I'm not sure we can. I mean we buried your mother not up to two days ago" Kehna thought. "I'll go give her a call and inform her that we're coming"
"Hmmm" Her father gave as a response.
So she went back to her room and immediately started looking for her nicest clothes, but with every new clothing, she tried on the more insecure she felt. She didn't bother looking for other clothing's to try on, she took her phone and called Ruby... "Hey? So? Did you ask?"
"Yes, when should we come over for lunch?"
"Maybe, one o'clock? Or maybe earlier, by noon"
"Okay, I have-" Before Kehna could ask what she wanted to ask, Ruby quickly interrupted her "Don't worry, we can pick you up. I'll send Miguel "
So they agreed on that but Kehna wasn't really happy with the agreement of her dad.
A few hours later,
"Kehna!" Her dad shouted holding the doorknob ready to go out. "I'm coming" she shouted back.
She ran out of her room looking the best she could, as long she waited for her father to compliment her nothing came out of him. "Let's go now, they are probably already waiting for us" after he said that, they both went outside to see Ruby's driver Miguel standing in front of their door. "Hello. I was sent to bring you to the William's house".
They successfully arrived, Kehna and her father were wowed by their house more like a mansion.
Kehna was still busy gasping and looking around when she heard someone yell
" Kehna!" She turned and the next thing she felt was the weight of Ruby, who jumped on her. "I'm so happy you came" Kehna smiled slightly leaving Ruby unsatisfied with her response "Let's go inside," Ruby said but Kehna quickly held her wrist as a sign for her to wait... "Wait Ruby, we didn't bring anything"
"Doesn't matter and except for that, are you going to go back and prepare a present for us?"
"No," She said, simply.
They were welcomed by Ruby's mother and her father. They guided them to enter the house but they didn't go to the dining room immediately. As they welcomed them, Mrs. Williams went back to the kitchen to finish her cooking. "We're grateful to have you here and we're also sorry for the short notice" Mr. Williams added.
"No problem, we weren't busy today anyway" Kehna's dad replied.
Meanwhile, Ruby dragged Kehna to her room. "Aren't we supposed to stay with your parents so-" Ruby directly stopped her from continuing. "My mom isn't going to finish anytime soon" Kehna was nodding while looking amused by the gigantic room she entered. "How can you live in such a room? It's probably as big as our apartment" she chuckled hearing what Kehna said. "Kehna?" Ruby asked while sitting on her bed.
"Hmm?"
"Are you happy?" Ruby asked again but this time more curious, Kehna chuckled before answering. "What do you want to hear the truth or a lie?" She spat out bluntly. "Of course, I expect to hear the truth"
"Okay, so my mom is dead and was buried not up to two days ago, so I'm still kind of recovering"
"Okay, you can stop with the cold act. I just want to know how you're doing"
"Sorry, I was a bit rude. However, you can't blame me can you?"
