Angel immediately swung into action. He grabbed a pair of radishes and washed them at the same time before planting them onto the chopping board and immediately reaching for a pair of onions.
Avery let out a sigh of relief and glanced at Damon. 'I told you' was written all over his face.
"If you dare!" She threatened.
He chuckled and grabbed a knife. "I wouldn't dare even if I did tell you I could do it."
"You are so annoying. Eating them is a different story altogether." She huffed, but deep down she hoped Angel would freely eat them. That was all that mattered.
"Well, the two of you may have fun. I'll prepare the batter for cookies."
She reached for the jar of flour and had to tiptoe before she could get hold of it. Damon's hand was holding the same jar in an attempt to help her get it down. She shut her eyes and took a deep, calming breath to stop herself from reflexively jabbing his stomach.
"This is my kitchen, Damon D'aboville. I can get things done without your help." She snapped.
"Of course you can. But you can use my help when I'm here." He spoke from over her head, not letting go of the jar. It was awkwardly held tilted off the edge of the shelf with her trying to pin it back up and him pulling it out of her hand.
"I don't need it. Let go!" She gritted her teeth.
"I'm just trying to help. Do you have to snap at me for everything I do?" He exploded.
"What do you think you are, huh? A superhero? Why don't you save the world if you can?" She rolled her eyes in annoyance. "Since you think you can do everything, go ahead and cook everything." She let go of the jar.
"Shit!" It was too late when he realized that she had let go. He had given up trying to help her and they ended up taking their hands off the jar at the same time. A crash resounded as the jar shattered into smithereens behind them.
He grabbed her and checked her all over. "Did it hit you?"
Her eyes narrowed. "Are you out of your mind? How old do you think you are? You…" Her chest heaved and she had nothing to say. They were both covered in flour and his forehead was red and starting to swell.
Mabella ran into the kitchen and was about to speak when she stopped dead in her tracks. The kitchen floor was a mess with a broken jar of flour.
One of the culptits was scolding the other as she slapped the floor off his clothes. She was totally using the chance to hit him.
Mabella tried not to laugh as Damon winced.
"I'm starting to think that I have two kids to take care of!" Avery scoffed as she ruffled his hair to get the floor off. How did it even get there in the first place? Also, why was he smiling while being scolded? Was he a masochist?
He gently brushed the flour off her hair. He had reflexively covered her when the jar fell so she got less spillage.
She shook her head and glared at him before heading for the fridge. Taking out an ice cube, she rubbed it against his forehead and had to tiptoe to reach it. "On the bright side, you have two heads now."
He grinned goofily. "It should be three."
Her face flushed slightly when she realized what he meant and she turned to check on Angel. He was too distracted trying to win the game to notice what was happening around him. He continued washing his vegetables as if the jar incident didn't exist.
Damon followed her gaze and looked at the mess around them. "I'll pay for the damages."
"Then you have a lot to pay for, Mr. D'aboville." She sucked in a breath. "You can pay for a broken jar using money or replacing it, but what about my heart?"
He took a deep breath and shut his eyes for a second. "Avery, you are talking about two completely unrelated things."
"No one is going to be the judge for that." She found a handheld broom and dustpan to clean the shards before Angel noticed them.
"I'll help you." He reached for the items in her hands.
"Are you trying to have a rematch of what just happened?" She looked up at him and tried to cover her mouth with her hand when she saw how ridiculous he looked. In the next instant, she burst out laughing.
