Chapter 27 - Week 10 - Earth - 2

Returning to her seat, Ro found that she was trembling as she sat. She replayed Glace's entrance and his look in her mind. She realized that that scared her more than what Alexi had done.

"Did you see Ky?" Aerie asked, and Ro jumped. "Hey are you alright? You look pale."

"I'm fine." Ro said, her voice shook a little. "What are we working on?"

"There's no point in starting now the period is over in five minutes and Professor Arzandia isn't here." Momo replied with a significant look. Ro couldn't meet her eyes. "You will tell us later what happened." Momo stated firmly. Ro nodded grateful to be left alone just then.

A few minutes later, Ky returned. He was dressed normally and had his usual charming smile plastered on his face.

"Sorry about that." He said.

The only evidence that he had been so enraged was his hair. He had tucked it behind his ears but there was no low ponytail anymore. His eyes scanned the room and met Ro's. His eyes hardened slightly. "Ro, I need to see you after class."

"Yes, Professor." She replied automatically.

The bell rang ending meditation period. Next up was self-study magic. Ro had no idea what she would work on. When Ky came around to ask what they wanted to study, he skipped her. Instead a clear glass ball appeared on desk when he passed out the implements. She picked it up and looked at it.

"Any ideas?" she asked showing it to Momo and Aerie. Aerie shook her head and Momo raised an eyebrow.

"That is a fulcrum. You are supposed to make it glow using light magic." Ky's voice was right next to her desk.

Ro jumped and fumbled the glass ball. Ky caught her hands and steadied them around the ball. Ro looked up into his face with a blush. He wasn't smiling, and his eyes were still hard. He released her hands as if they were hot coals. Ro felt a stab of hurt, as if he'd rejected her.

"How do I do that?" She asked.

"You think of the light." He responded coolly and walked off.

"Is he mad at you?" Aerie asked "Or was that my imagination. I just don't think I've ever seen him not smiling." Ro shook her head.

"We'll talk about it later." She said and concentrated on making the orb light.

By the end of the period she had made it flicker a few times. She felt like she'd failed. She held on to the orb as the rest of the class filed out. Alexi had never come back. The look on Ky's face came back into her mind and she glanced at the orb again. Once the room was empty, she approached Ky's desk. She plopped the orb down on its stand.

"Alexi never came back." She said coolly, "Did you kill him?" Ky's back stiffened.

"I am a teacher. I wouldn't do that. He just flew away through the window." Ky turned with anger on his face. "What were you doing there with him?" He demanded harshly.

"You think I went there willingly? I couldn't control my own body." Ro yelled her temper flaring. Glace's face softened with a look of relief. "Some protection this is." She yanked on the necklace suddenly furious with him.

"I got there in time." Ky said softly all hints of his anger gone.

"Well what about the next time? You can't be there all the time." She was still yelling, and she could feel wetness on her cheeks. Ro didn't know how or when she had started crying.

Ky grabbed her and pulled her protesting body into his own. She shoved at his chest. He held on to her, allowing her to take her frustration out on him. Eventually, Ro calmed down. Ky wiped the tears from her cheeks with his thumb. As she looked up into his face, Ky felt like a hand tightened around his heart. Her red eyes made her irises appear even greener and they sparkled from unshed tears. She wore a sorrowful and fearful expression on her beautiful face. He hated seeing her look like that. Ky felt a strong urge to kiss her and hold her forever.

"I could be there all the time." He offered gently. The confusion Ro felt was plain on her face. Ky sighed, realizing she didn't understand. "I'll teach you how to defend yourself from that type of attack." He said in answer to her question as he quashed the desire to kiss her. A look of relief washed over Ro's face and she smiled a little. "Be here at eight am starting tomorrow. You have extra magic lessons."

"Thank you, Ky." She said. Reluctantly, he released his arms from around her and allowed her to step back. "I'll see you tomorrow." She said with a larger smile as she ran to get to the girl's locker room.
