Chapter 3 - The Underground Research Center

Chapter Three: The Underground Research Center

In a secret military base outside the Goethe City.

This was a restricted area. No citizens or aircraft were allowed to go near the no-fly zone.

Only those who had passwords were allowed to enter.

Walls, iron fences, minefields and hidden sentries.

Police cars would escort the bulletproof car outside the restricted area and make them all go back the way they came.

Then it would be escorted by armored cars.

When the black car entered the military base, the electronic gate was shut.

Then, the car disappeared.

If one used a satellite map, the car had mysteriously disappeared.

But if one looked through a drone, they would see a tall platform suddenly rose from the ground and the black car went underground.

Then, the platform would slowly descend without any trace.

As the car drove through the underground tunnel, red light constantly scanned the surroundings.

Once any abnormalities were detected, the machine guns on both sides of the secret tunnel would fire at the same time. In such a narrow road, no one would survive.

After entering the underground platform, there was another door, and the car stopped in front.

The two men in black walked out with the password box.

They scanned their eyes at the door, and it opened.

There were countless soldiers with guns standing inside. When they saw the two men in black, they raised their hands and saluted.

The two of them did not look at them and directly walked in.

The tunnel inside was even longer, and there were a few soldiers standing to guard every few meters.

Distinguishing from the level of their equipment, they were all top-notch special forces, and every one of them had fought in wars.

This was a military base that was tightly guarded as a fortress, and it was not on the ground, but underneath the ground.

After a few more fingerprint and pupil identifications, both of them entered the center of this underground fortress.

It's a research room.

This was what all the soldiers were guarding, the country's top research center. The world's top technology was in this room.

Compared to the technology in this place, all the technology outside was as backward as the primitive people's. The basic technology here surpassed the technologies having being developed for 200 years by the country.

They had almost hollowed out the underground. Looking out of the glass of the research room, they could see the floating trains made with the advanced technology moving through the huge space.

Red and green lights flickered frequently.

The train that looked like a long steel line was moving through the underground tracks.

The huge platform was ascending and descending. Countless scientists in white coats walked in and out.

Some people were using pens to take notes while observing the strange beasts that looked like extraterrestrial creatures in the cages. That was the result of genetic sequencing cloning.

There were also people who screamed in excitement at the moment when they saw the particles collided. They completely ignored the dozens of faint blue fire pillars were spurted out and melted the steel of the door.

This was simply a fantasy paradise for technology fanatics. All the scientists had brought the technology that appeared in science-fiction movies into reality...

However, when these scientists saw the man in black carrying the box, they stopped what they were doing and walked over one after another.

They stared at the password box in their hands.

However, these were only young professors. Although they were already in their forties or fifties, they were not the central characters of the research institute. They were just apprentices.

The central figures walked down from the platform.

They were all old. Most of them were over 80 years old.

They looked like vampires who had been dug out from ancient tombs.

They were different from the low-level researchers. They wore black tuxedos and ancient silver rings on their left hands.

The symbol of the ring was an eye which represented the God's omniscient and omnipotent eye.

The young professor had to step aside. Hundreds of scientists crowded the research institute.

If the scientists outside the institute were here, they would scream for the old scientists who were their heroes.

The scientists who won the Nobel prizes stood there like students. They lowered their heads and respectfully waited for the scientific leaders to walk over with crutches.

Doug Jones, a landmark figure in nuclear physics, headed the procession. The United States wouldn't have been able to build an atomic bomb without him.

Everyone in the world thought he was dead.

On his left was Jean Gerus, who make the United States become the first country to send the astronauts to the Moon, and turned down the Nobel Prize!

On his right was Blair Bittner, known as the Solomon of Mathematics! The man was also known as Einstein in math.

These milestones in the history of modern science were all in the same research institute. They were supposed to stay in tombs, but they were still alive.

Their skin was pale and dry, but their eyes were as bright as torches. Some of them hadn't left the lab for half a century. They spent all their time researching, hoping to get closer to the truth before they died.

Their bodies were deteriorating, and only their brains were advancing.

Of course, they probably wouldn't mind a dysfunctional body with a great brain.

This was because they felt their lives were meaningless apart from their thinking. They were a bunch of fanatics who believed in science and were known as geniuses.

When Doug Jones saw the password box, his gray eyes gave off a fanatical look. "This one?"

"Yes, the manuscript of the Antimatter Theory."

When they heard about the Antimatter Theory, all the scientists were shocked speechless.

That was the Antimatter Theory!

The world's ultimate energy source.

All of the world's top scientists understanded the Antimatter Theory, but it was difficult to estimate the amount of money needed to produce one gram of antimatter.

Until now, no one had truly figured out how to mass-produce antimatter in a simple and inexpensive way.

If they could not break through this hurdle, the Antimatter Theory would not be regarded as a complete theory.

Because of the huge cost, most of scientists stopped to study the theory.

Only few scientists continued studying, including Doug Jones.

"Open it," Doug Jones said in a low voice.

All the scientists stared at the box. They wanted to witness the moment that would revolutionize the scientific world.
