Chapter 1 - Prologue

Chapter 0

Where should I start? First of all, my name is Devyn Dexter and in my world, we have superpowers.

I love in a world where this kind of thing is normal. It started around a century ago, or so I was told.

It must have been some type of outbreak or evolution time thing that caused it.

The government might I say doesn't tell us anything and just leaves us hanging.

My parents also do have superpowers but they work with the government.

I try to ask them about some of our histories but of course, their work comes first.

It's been like this for a while. They have been leaving for business trips since the age of 2.

With a babysitter of course but at the age of 13, they left me alone.

Look I know how it sounds, I know the government is not necessarily good but I guess you can't just go around and ask your parents to quit their job.

We all need money to survive in this world. Whether we like to admit that or not.

They love me and all but not that much to become homeless.

My power is somewhat like brainwave from those DC comics. If anyone even knows who that is.

That was like 150 years ago. To be honest I don't know. I found the comic somewhere.

I can control, read, move things, and even send signals to about three people at a time.

Not the best because it has drawbacks. What may you ask?  It gives me Tinnitus -a ringing in my ears- and it also makes me dizzy but that isn't really the problem.

The Tinnitus can eventually lead me to go deaf, not completely but I would have to get hearing aids.

I try to learn more about my power but it's forbidden to be used unless you try out for the hero classes.

Which I have not done because exercise is a no for me.

In this reality the government is corrupt. Yes, Yes I know that everywhere is corrupt but here people are taken, and then their powers are somehow extracted from them for government weapons or even sold on the black market.

The only reason I know about this because I have heard conversations with my parents.

I don't necessarily know if they are good or bad but it's not looking too good for them. I honestly don't know what is going on with them. I don't know who to tell, which makes sense because i no longer know who to trust.

I think that I should tell my three friends. I've known them my entire life.

But should I trust them?

Put yourselves in my position. You find out your parents could be a part of the many disappearances in the country.

I am just saying I wouldn't go around telling everyone. So for now I am just going to sit back and observe and see if anything I act on it and then I find someone I can trust.

I need to know who I am against.

Moving from that topic. I do go to school but not with the 10% of people who don't have powers.

I go to Future Foundation  Academy. I know whoever made that name needs to be fired, I mean future foundation a three-year-old could do better.

Anyways I don't really have a lot of friends here. Damon is the only one of those friends that go here.

I would rather call him that one annoying younger brother but who cares what I think. -I still love him though.-

Let's see. Damon is one of those persons who is always talking about astrology, Ariana Grande, Poems, and vampire diaries.

I mean I like them too but it isn't a personality trait.

Damon's power is a little more complex than mine. He can allow a person to not be able to distinguish a dream from reality.

He only does about 4 people at a time though. His only drawback is that it makes him tired but to be honest I can't tell the difference.

This man goes to his bed at 3 am. He will stay up sending memes in the group chat and I would have to be the one to tell him to go to sleep.

I wouldn't say my school is normal. I mean a bunch of hormonal teenagers with what, 14  subjects, college prep, training on how to use their powers, hero courses for those who want them.

I retract my statement from before,  it's the exact same as any normal highschool the only difference is the powers.

Everyone has stress. Who wouldn't schools be built the same as prisons? To this day I can't find a single difference. Wait I just found one. You pay to send your children there.

I like to believe that my life won't get any worse. I won't dwell on the past or worry about the cons. I mean Einstein once said " In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.

Ah yes, I'm one of those nerds. But honestly, can you blame me?
