Devyn's POV
"Then where do we start," I said. We all knew how important this was. We knew the risk we were about to take. Even though this could affect all of our futures we know that this needed to be done.
All the events that led up to this point showed us that this situation wasn't a coincidence.
I mean we found a treehouse that may have information that's directed towards us finding a way out of this situation.
We needed to settle down and get this done for all our sakes.
" We get the books. Don't move them from their position. I think they are in a particular order" Oliver exclaimed. He was once again repeating that cycle everyone seemed to worry about.
This time however it was calm and he seemed less panicked than he normally would.
" I don't know who did it but I think they were left for us. I feel like someone knew we would be here". He continued l, starting to get up from the position he seemed so comfortable in.
"Conspiracy Theorist much," Damon said, with a touch of his familiar attitude we were oh so used to.
"Come on Damon, we live in a world where superpowers are normal, and then there's the government who is allegedly kidnapping citizens for their powers"
"Don't ya think a little conspiracy is what we need to solve this? We've got to think out of the box you know" I said, trying to be an optimist person, but hearing that from my mouth made me gag as it came out.
"Says the person who gags when saying something as stupid as that" Damon said.
That's when I heard hysterical laughs. What the heck was happening.
When I looked over it was Damon.
'I love God, you love God what's wrong with you' I thought to myself
(A/N: I'm sorry I had to)
"Wait I just thought about something, if I were to be dying, and you told me that foolishness, I would get and smack you. Then peacefully die" Damon said the laughter slightly dying down.
"Anyways, Oliver goes on," Ginny said, slightly pissed off.
"Alright, when y'all were busy doing whatever that was" Oliver began as he let out a sigh.
" I noticed that these books all have numbers on them. Well not numbers but if you look at their stamps you can see they used dots for each". He continued starting to walk to the books now bending down to get a closer look.
"We'll have to read them, and in order too. There must have been a reason why they would number it". Oliver said as he took up the first two books.
Our group had no problem with reading. That wasn't the case. We were all just a little bit nervous about what we would find in these books that someone perhaps left.
We now took up the books. Damon took with book one. Oliver tool book 2 because it somewhat intrigued him.
I took book 3 and Ginny took book 4.
The covers on the books were nothing special just plain brown with no real title or author.
If it was up to me really I wouldn't even consider reading it.
I mean I can't be the only one who finds books to read based on a cover 0r if someone recommended it to me.
It's probably just me.
I wasn't excited to read this, I wasn't thrilled to see what would happen.
This right here felt like one of those books that the teachers assigned you to read. The ones that no one cared for.
I didn't know if it was the fact that we could all read a book with 400 pages or so in 6 hours that made people think we were nerds.
Or that we used to wear our Harry Potter robes to pre-school.
You know back when Damons and I's power didn't kick in.
We always stuck together.
Time seemed to run so fast when you're caught up in something when you're having fun.
In our case, we weren't having fun with this book and it was just so dang long.
We all planned to talk about what we read to one another.
Sort of like a book club.
I don't know how this will help but we will have to see.
This book is fictional. It's about some girl that has to fulfill some sort of prophecy.
I mean come on is that supposed to be a good plot.
(A/N: Is this considered breaking the fourth wall, meh).
Time skip (it would be like 10 pm since they went after school).
" I'm done. Hahahhaha" Damon began as he sprinted up from his position.
"Take that your long piece of-" Damon continued as he began pointing at the book as if he was proving a point.
"You do realize that it's an inanimate object right," Ginny said as she got up as well.
"And? It still brings me joy" Damon replied to Ginny as he was about to continue.
"But-" I tried to begin.
"No, buts honey. It brings me joy that's it". Damon said, interrupting my statement.
" Anyways, Oliver are you done". Ginny asked as she started to look at Oliver.
"I've been done actually," Oliver said.
I don't think he realizes how rude that sounds.
"I'm trying to figure out why someone would leave such fictional nonsense here. It just doesn't make sense".
" I thought these books were supposed to mean something". He continued.
'To be honest I thought the same thing. If everything leads us here. Why would they also lead us to books that don't mean anything?' I thought to myself.
"It's called symbolism," Ginny said.
"It means something beyond the literal meaning". She continued.
We all stared at her in disbelief.
" I thought you slept during English Class".Oliver said, taking up the book once more.
"I put my head on the desk. Different thing dumbass" Ginny said slightly feeling offended.
"And if we're speaking the truth here I have a higher average than you. If I told you, you would try recommending careers for me to get into." She continued.
"Makes sense. But now that you speak of it. You're right". Oliver started.
" In the book that I read it spoke of the government conducting experiments on this girl who surprisingly had supernatural abilities.
In this case, it could be what Dev heard on the phone.
Let's gather all our information. It might help". Oliver continued.
We're in for a long ride.
