Chapter 16 - Nopapi

Nofafi was happy with his current life. He had a beautiful wife, 4 darling children, a nice house, and a job he enjoyed. He worked as a courier for the same organization that Zerrin was from, and was on good terms with him. He loved to roam the world as a courier, going from city to city and town to town delivering messages and missions around the area that his organization controlled. It wasn't a particularly easy job, nor did it pay the best, but it was more than enough to support his family back home, as well as helped him satisfy a hobby of his, traveling. Work came first of course, but he would usually have a day or two at his destination before there would be enough information or reports that had piled up for him to take back to Naice for review. He didn't worry too much about bandits or the local wildlife, the Zen Gin Peninsula was fairly peaceful and prosperous. There was enough for everyone here and thanks in part to the local governments there was very little in the way of crime.

Of course the most significant factor in there not being much struggle was the climate in the region. The Zen Gin Peninsula supported a relatively stable temperature year round, allowing for the production of food to happen whenever. There were rarely epidemics, and the rivers and streams that stemmed from the central mountain range meant the people very rarely had any want for water. The abundance of food meant that the local fauna had no interest in the taste or nutrients of humans, who they saw to be dangerous. Various attacks did occur when territorial disputes between different species broke out, but they usually kept to themselves, careful not to invoke some sort of wrath. Nofafi himself had encountered a few bandits and wolves himself, but he had been trained a bit in combat to protect more sensitive packages. If ever he found himself fighting something he couldn't beat, he would simply run away. His employers were generally quite lenient on this front, they would rather have the paperwork and messages delivered late than not at all, and they couldn't risk leaking any sensitive matters if they were to be stolen.

All of this considered, he found the worst thing about his job was the fact he had to spend so much time away from home. Even though his boss took this into account when dealing with him, his family living outside the city, he still only had a month with his family compared to his two month length of duty. Even his one month was cut short as getting to his village and back took a week, meaning he got even less time at home. Still, he found his job was much better than others. He always brought back souvenirs for his beloved brats, and he spent as much time pampering his lady as he could, squaring away any issues that she might have before he had to leave again. He didn't worry about her being alone either, the man he looked up to and owed more than his life to resided there and made sure she was safe.

Of course Jamie had been in a rough spot these last few months, what with his wife's passing and the uncertain future of the only child they had ever spawned. He felt himself to be somewhat responsible for that child's who he had recently learned was named Colaris Dominus Arcturus. He found it strange that Jamie decided to call him by his Stellar name, but he assumed it had something to do with the wishes of his wife.

All in all, he found the most dissatisfying thing about his existence to be his name, Nofafi. It was given to him by his grandfather and was supposedly the name of the man who had saved his life on the battlefield, but he found it to be odd, and a little demeaning. He was always made fun of as a child and at work for having such a strange name. Sometimes when he introduced himself to someone for the first time he used his last name instead of his first, making it so they did not have a bad impression of him because of it. However, there was one person he found that made him more proud of his name than anyone whenever she said it.

"Nofafi! You're home so early! How was work?" He loved his wife more than any other. But as his eyes drew to a moving body filled with wonder and joy, he melted.

"Nopapi!" Ering mimicked her mother as best she could.

For once in his life, he found he would trade his name for no other.
