Friendship broke that day between Hazel and Dawn. Everyone was heading home when she caught up with Hazel and her hand at the hallway exit.
"Look who's going home all by herself." Hazel teased her making the other girls mock in a laugh.
"I bet her ambassador mummy isn't coming to pick her up today." Paige scoffed in a laugh and they all laughed at her again.
This was the last thing that she wanted. For people to make fun of her. At that point she yearned for Danny's presence so bad but he was unreachable. There's no way she was ever gonna let those spoilt Bratz tear her down.
"I guess the slap I gave u earlier wasn't that hard. Want some more?" Dawn put on a brave act. After all she had to or else they were gonna destroy her esteem completely.
"What? You wanna slap me again?" Hazel touched her right hear indicating she didn't hear Dawn correctly. "Go ahead. Do it. I'd love to see what the principal and of course your school sponsors will have to say once you lay your filthy hands in my beautiful face. I'm so sure you'll get expelled in the next five minutes. And I bet you wouldn't want that. Your cashier mummy would be so mad at you."
"Dawn!" She looked back only to see her mother walk out of their black BMW car. Apparently Leslie was there to pick her daughter up and she had heard everything that the girls had said to Dawn. This made her furious and she couldn't tolerate the fact that they made fun of her child.
.
"What's going on here?" Leslie approached the girls and directly made contact with Hazel.
"Mum..let's just go home." Dawn grabbed her mum's arms pulling her back to the car.
"No." Leslie shook her head. She was ready to defend her girl no matter what the cost. "I heard everything Hazel said about me. What's wrong with being a cashier Hazel?" Leslie faced her wanting the truth and ready to confront the stupidity in her.
.
Hazel knew that she was in trouble. She couldn't go against an adult most especially a woman. She saw how Leslie was ready to attack and there's no way she could ever let her guard down.
"You might be good at counting money. But you are so not good at counting the lies your daughter piles up in school." Hazel rudely responded.
"What lies?" Leslie was confused. What the hell was Hazel talking about?
"Why don't you ask her?" Hazel replied as she and her friends took off from their sight.
"What's she saying?" Leslie faced Dawn who didn't know what to tell her mum for she saw the unending confused look in her eyes.
Dawn wasn't having any of it. She rushed to the front seat of the car and patiently watched her mum drag herself to the car.
"Mum just drop it. Get in the car and let's go home." She whined as she fastened her seat belt.
"But I wanna know what's going on." Leslie insisted as she got in Inside the car and buckled her seat belt too.
"This is not the right time nor place to discuss about this." Dawn was already frustrated with her mother's endless questions. This is exactly what she was trying to avoid.
"Then when is the right time?"
"Okay..I'll tell you." Dawn growled. She just wanted her mum to stop pestering her.
She inhaled deeply trying to gather her words to speak for she knew that her mother would be embarrassed of her story.
"I lied to my friends that I was rich too. I told them that I live in Old Town Calabasas next to Kim Kardashian. I also told them that you work as a Victoria Secrets ambassador."
She saw the look on her mum's face and knew that she was in trouble.
"But why? I told you pretending to be someone whom you are not is gonna get you in trouble someday." Leslie said as she started the engine and placed her hands on the steering wheel.
"So now Hazel found out the truth through Max and they're all ganging up on me like as if am some kinda villain." She then let out a frustrated sigh. The thoughts of reliving the day Max embarrassed her was causing her a great distress.
"Dawn.." her mother scoffed. "You lied about your life. What else did you expect?"
"Okay mum...stop lecturing me and just drive."
"Am not lecturing you. As a mom...am being responsible by telling you real life facts."
"Yes sure." Dawn rolled her eyes.
"Speaking of real life facts....I have a surprise for you at home." Leslie smirked as she started driving off the school parking.
"It's not my birthday." Dawn rolled her eyes again. Conversations with her mother were ever boring.
"I know. But aren't you excited about my surprise?"
"Not at all."said Dawn as she reached for her earphones in her rucksack and wore them on her both ears.
