The weather was as bad as ever, with the storm generating fast winds and the heavy rain crashing on the car frame like hammers hitting nails repeatedly. Starting to lose patience a little, with his car stuck in a traffic jam this late in the evening, Shinsuke glanced at his watch: almost 9:30 pm. Hoping to arrive on time was futile, since he was already late before he left.
He should have left work earlier; and he regretted staying to work overtime. He had underestimated how many people would still be out at this time of day, and in this weather. People weren't afraid to go out at night, or during a storm. At least when it wasn't a typhoon.
He reassured himself with a positive thought: at least he wasn't that far from the station.
