"Will you continue with this story?"
"Of course, it's the truth."
"The truth? I won't be able to help you if you keep lying young man, be honest with me and nothing bad will happen to you."
That would be a good option, but considering that the contract I signed is going to screw with me or the fact that this guy has no real proof of what my team did, because if he had, he would have arrested me and not invited me to try. make me confess to a crime he can't prove.
"I already told what happened to the official smugglers, I don't understand why and so hard for you to believe the truth. I don't know what you think you've discovered or heard from unreliable sources, but my team track and kill smugglers who harm the kingdom, we're the good guys here."
Officer Pine is very angry, but you're surprised he still insists on wearing a friendly face. I don't know what they teach in the officer course he took, but keeping a smile on his face when his aura is so wild inside his body it feels like his body is on fire and he's not a fire elemental warrior and it amazes me. you.
"After that what happened to your team."
"We went to the desert to get some miners and magic beast parts."
"Did something different happen to your group?"
"Should not? We were in a desert visiting a place that is managed by the kingdom, there was no one there besides my group who are allowed to go to the cave to get materials."
"How many days did you wash to complete your mission?"
"Some."
"Could you be more exact?"
"No."
"I just want to be able to record the time you took to complete the quest. There is no reason for you to withhold this information."
"Yes he has."
Finally a genuine and a little wild smile appears on the officer's face.
"Which?"
"I don't like your face?"
"What!?"
"I don't like your attitude, you're asking too many questions that don't seem to have a coherent line of questioning. It is obvious that you want to frame me for a crime I did not commit, this is a very ugly action on your official part, the officials of the kingdom must be upstanding."
"Very funny, aren't institute students supposed to be upstanding and law-abiding in the kingdom?"
"I can't talk about the others, but considering that we are young and this is the time of making mistakes I wouldn't be surprised if some students from the institutes. But that doesn't mean it applies to me, I'm a very whole person."
"I wouldn't be so sure."
"I've. It's to prove me wrong you have to have evidence that doesn't exist, and it doesn't exist because I haven't even committed a crime."
"I wouldn't be so sure if I were you."
"I do, because even if a criminal hypothetically accuses me of a crime he has no concrete evidence and because of that his testimony is useless."
"So you're going to keep your history with him are you? This is your last chance to change your story, remember that the consequences will be terrible for you. Your bright future will be destroyed because you did not cooperate with me."
"Now I've stopped for a while and thought a little about my situation, I really have to change my story."
"You want to confess to what crime."
"I killed a bird, you know, in the desert it's hard to get fresh meat to eat since the magical beasts dominated that region. On our way back we saw a bird in the desert, the poor thing must have gotten lost in the desert I killed him, plucked him and roasted him for dinner."
"I have to apologize to you sir because I forgot that detail, I didn't remember this weird event when you asked about hearing some unusual event during the mission, my report was incomplete but now the report is complete. I think I'm leaving, my team must be waiting for me to leave, have a bad day and your investigation dies because you don't even have concrete proof to keep insisting on it."
I get up and start to leave the room, but as my body makes it through the door I feel murderous intent on my back. It was brief, but I already had my hand on the hilt of my sword, ready to fight the officer.
I glanced over at Officer Pine who was still in the dark, but now his smile was gone and his eyes were completely red with anger. Looks like he's reached his limit.
"You're cleared, but I have bad news for your group. Looks like the matrix is out of order today, you guys will have to wait to be able to leave."
I smile at the idiot, but I'm not going to fall into the trap of answering him now. I head towards the headquarters only to find my team who have already packed their bags but haven't taken them to the headquarters.
Hilda and Gloria appear to be arguing with a soldier while Alice and Zephyr are looking around for more enemies. To several solos seeing the mess from afar it looks like they are not involved in it, they are just watching the show, I doubt there are so many people being bribed by the officer.
I approach them and I can easily hear their discussion, the soldier says the matrix doesn't work and they don't believe him and Hilda is threatening the soldier who is about to get dirty but still stands his ground because he must think he's safe already than to so many witnesses.
"Why isn't everything ready yet?"
"This idiot is preventing us from carrying the boxes and bags."
I turn to the soldier and my gaze embodies all the contempt of a superior noble that I can feign, this is kind of hard I know to be an idiot not a noble idiot who thinks his shit is gold because he's a superior being.
"The matrix is closed, please come back tomorrow."
"You idiot, you know who I am! Do you know who I just had a meeting with?!"
The soldier cringed in fear.
"Agent doesn't have time to waste on your idiocy, you activate the matrix now. Don't forget who gave the order not to use the matrix, everything is ready for the next phase, another little shit like you is really going to get in our way."
I slap the soldier who is trembling with fear, he almost fell to the ground and I didn't even put force in the slap. The soldiers here are pretty shit.
"What are you waiting for! Go to your point to fill the matrix or I will beat you up and drag you to officer Pine and his deputy will take care of the matrix until you get out of the infirmary, the officer will have lots of 'compliments' ready for you for stopping us now."
I release all hostility and cruelty in my speech and in my use of the word praise. The soldier turns three shades whiter and runs to the matrix control room.
"Get your luggage, I don't have time to waste here anymore."
It didn't even take five minutes for all the luggage and boxes to be inside the headquarters with my team. I give the soldier a command look who is still terrified and activating the matrix.
As the room where the matrix is is completely closed, the soldier who is going to have a bad day soon cannot see the soldiers coming this way. My new friend officer Pine is heading this way, I know this because I can see a humanoid colored smear with the colors of his aura and the elements of Officer Pine heading our way with two more soldiers.
But he's late, the matrix activates, and I feel like shit. And I really hate going through a matrix, it's worth it because it wastes a lot of travel time, but the feeling of being broken into pieces even if it's short is still pretty unpleasant.
"What just happened?"
"Many things, he explained later."
"That was uncivil! You put so much fear into that soldier I thought he would shit himself, but I don't understand why such a shit soldier was taking care of something valuable and important at the base."
Alice is always very lively and usually for the bad reasons.
"This is because he knows he was doing the wrong thing, he must have been bribed or intimidated to prevent them from using the matrix, but it is obvious that the commander of that base was not in Officer Pine's scheme which I will explain to you in a moment, so we better get out of here."
"Okay, but I'm going to want a good explanation, Ulric."
"Don't worry about it Gloria, you'll have your answers, but I can tell you're not going to like them very much."
It didn't take long for us to get out of the tent and take the loot to the Quest Hall to finish this problem, but I feel like a troubled officer might be on his way to make my life more difficult.
