Ave's Perspective

I've been following the human male for quite some time now. His visage constantly in my mind's eye. That female I saw with him, the fact his presence alone simultaneously causes me peace and distress; It disturbs me greatly.
Somehow, tracking him has been difficult. I was the apex hunter of my people. No creature could escape my pursuit, yet this simple man keeps evading me.
I follow him into a room only to have him not be there. Or I'll be following him in a hallway and he'll suddenly be behind me. He often leaves an almost unnoticeable trail of water behind him, but even that is sometimes unreliable. It helps that the ringing in my ears always stops when he's near.
Every so often I see the female with him. If only for the shortest glimpses. She's almost always walking side by side with her arm looped around his, or she's floating just behind him with her arms wrapped around his neck. I've been in my pursuit for two days now, and she seems to be getting... tired.

I really need this damn lizard to stop following me! I can't get a moment's rest. I keep trying to talk to that elf, but one if these zoo animals keep getting in the way. Especially that damn lizard! I think his name was Ave or something like that.
I've heard him and the word 'necromancy' used together, so he might be able to see Lady, or at least detect her. Gods I hope not. I never want to see her manifest again. I can tell she's getting tired from me constantly calling on her, but it's all been if an effort to avoid that damn lizard.
I've had to pull out my best tricks, Ghostwalk, Shade Form, and Decoy several times a day all in an effort to avoid him. Every time I think I've lost him he shows up again. I hardly have a moment to eat. I can feel the weight of Lady bare down on me as she grows tired.
Though I guess this game of cat and mouse had to come to an end eventually, as he's finally confronted me while I eat lunch in one of the palace's sitting rooms. "Why do you make me feel like this?" He questions me. How in the 7 Hells am I supposed to respond to that? "You're presence puts my mind as peace, but makes my body ache." Oh gods, don't tell me he's in love! Are Lizardfolk even capable of love? "I think it's the entity that follows you. What is it? I need to know."
Damn. So he can see Lady. It was only a matter of time until someone figured it out. I rub my hands together; they're dry. Lady is resting, so she won't get upset if I talk about her. "I'm possessed by a spirit." I look up to the lizard from my seat and speak firm. He gets what seems to be an angry look in his eyes, then he calms. "Explain."
"I'm possessed by a spirit, her name is Lady. She's a Rusalka; A woman drowned by a man who then rises as a vengeful spirit."
"Then why is she attached to you?"
"We were... lovers before she died. She was there at the lake we would usually meet. She gave into her nature and tried to drown me in return, but I guess she remembered and latched on instead." I tried to hide my solemnness, but I knew I made it apparent.
"Does she control you? Is that how you've been evading me?" Ave's words sounds suddenly more forceful. There's a purple glint in his eyes.
"Gods no!" I don't know why I'm so aggressive towards his accusations. "She let's me use her abilities willingly. She asks for nothing in return." The lizard stands thinking in silence. What was a few seconds felt like minutes.
"Fine. I approve of this relationship." Ave said frankly before walking away.
What the fuck? I didn't know I needed some old-ass lizard to give his blessing for me to be possessed by my ghost girlfriend that tries to drown me every time I walk next to a fountain.
I lay my head on the table next to my plate. I'm so exhausted. I guess I should have just come clean from the beginning, but so many run when they hear about Lady. I can feel the cold, wet, gentle caress of a hand against my cheek as a chill runs up my spine. It doesn't startle me anymore. It brings me comfort.

So it's a vengeful spirit. I'll allow it to exist for now as long as it helps me return home. As soon as it's no longer helpful, I'll destroy it like the rest...
