Chapter 3 - Do Not Mess With Spirits

It was a moonlit night as Aubery and Lillian, two adventurous best friends, found themselves gathered around a small table adorned with a spirit box. It was a sleepover tradition for them to explore the supernatural, so they had taken the spirit box for a walk to the nearby graveyard, seeking to communicate with the other side.

Excited and slightly apprehensive, they weaved through the silent streets, their footsteps echoing in the night's stillness. The spirit box, a device known to pick up on paranormal energy, crackled sporadically, heightening their sense of anticipation.

As they entered the gates of the cemetery, a hushed calm surrounded them. Tombstones stood sentinel-like, their weathered phrases serving as reminders of those who had long passed. Aubery switched on the spirit box, and its eerie glow illuminated their faces.

"Is anyone here?" Lillian asked, her voice slightly shaky.

The spirit box responded, emitting static and whispers, but no coherent response. Disappointed but undeterred, they continued wandering through the graveyard, hoping for a more distinct connection.

Suddenly, the atmosphere changed. The once gentle night breeze turned chilly, and a thick mist rose from the ground. Their breath quickened as an inexplicable fear crept into their hearts.

The spirit box, once their source of excitement, emitted odd noises. Whispers turned into angry, jumbled voices. The girls exchanged concerned glances, their excitement giving way to a growing uneasiness.

Unsettled but still hoping for a positive encounter, they pressed on, their footsteps now accompanied by strange electrical pulses from the spirit box. It appeared unseen forces were pushing against them, making each step heavier and the darkness more suffocating.

A flicker of movement caught their attention. Glancing towards a rickety mausoleum, they saw a shadowy figure emerge from within. Its shape distorted, as if it did not belong to the realm of the living. Their hearts hammered in their chests as they realized not all spirits were friendly entities.

The girls' curiosity quickly transformed into terror as the figure, shrouded in darkness, advanced toward them. Their instincts screamed to run, but fear rooted their feet to the ground. The spirit box now emitted an overwhelming wave of anger and malevolence, matching the entity's approach.

Summoning their courage, Aubery and Lillian dashed away, their screams piercing through the night. Their frantic footsteps echoed through the graveyard as they raced toward the exit, feeling the hostile spirit fading behind them.

Finally, they burst through the gates, gasping for breath. They threw the spirit box aside, tears streaming down their faces. The experience had shattered their innocent fascination with the supernatural, leaving only a lingering feeling of dread.

From then on, Aubery and Lillian realized there were spirits that lingered in the shadows, not seeking communication or peace but to instill fear and chaos. The sleepover tradition had taught them a valuable lesson about the unpredictable nature of the spirit realm, leaving an indelible mark on their friendship and a newfound respect for the boundaries between the living and the dead.
