It has been a few days since Aya practically gave Amira the go-ahead to spill the blood of her natives. And Amira, driven by whatever bloodlust she had spilled blood like there was no tomorrow. Mai paced back and forth in front of the hut, her emotions the rawest with anger and desperation taking the upper hand in it. She wanted to just strangle Amira and even make her disappear from the surface of the land but it wasn't her place to do that, it was the responsibility of a certain someone. Speaking of which, Lady emerged from the hut and the weariness of her body went not unnoticed by Mai.
Lady knew the day where she would have to face her mother was at hand and she was in great turmoil, she was going to probably kill her and her intestines churned whenever she thought of that. She felt Mai's eyes on her so she raised her head and met Mai's eyes with her own.
Lady cocked an eyebrow and crossed her arms on her chest under the intensive scrutinizing gaze of Mai "Why are you looking at me like that?" she asked.
"Just because" Mai shrugged and turned her gaze somewhere else.
"Come on" Lady threw her hands in the air with a huff "You can not tell me that you just literally gazed piercingly into my soul without a reason" she went to stand in front of Mai.
"Yes, I was just looking at something behind your back, I wasn't looking at you" Mai replied with another shrug.
"I always thought I was the dumbest one but it seems the golden boy was right" Lady bobbed her head up and down while muttering but on the right volume so Mai could hear her.
"What do you mean?" Mai glared at her.
"I mean you know we are one like literally joined together right?" Lady raised her eyebrows again with a taunting smile on her face.
"Yes, of course, I know"
"So why are trying to lie to me when I'm you and so I feel what you feel". Lady narrowed her eyes at her with a mocking frown that dared Mai to refute the matter.
" Tch" Mai groaned after and continued "I guess I'll have to tell you" she rolled her eyes.
"Alright, so on with it now" Lady urged her curiosity and her body itching to know what Mai was hiding from her.
Mai sighed and looked straight into Lady's eyes, a look that sent shivers down Lady's spine " I would be going to the village"
Lady released a breath she didn't know she was holding, rolling her eyes in the process "And here I thought we were going to have another big god scandal" she murmured and looked up at Mai " So what's so secretive and scary about going back to the village?" she asked.
Mai gave her a look and said "So you mean to say you haven't felt the shift in your power and nature recently?"
Now it was Lady's turn to shrug "I mean I have but isn't it normal, we can't always have a balanced nature right?"
Mai sighed " And you had the right to say you were getting wiser"
Lady scoffed at her.
"Haven't you been feeling restless and desolate for no reason?"
Lady nodded.
"Now tell me again, haven't you been feeling as if someone desperately needed your help and your emotions are all haywire sometimes?" Mai asked again.
And again Lady nodded rapidly.
"And you thought it was normal to feel like that?" Mai mimicked Lady's stance from earlier, crossing her arms over her chest and raising her eyebrows.
"I mean yes but.." Lady stopped and scoffed " Just explain to me already"
"Fine but you are not going to like what I'm about to say"
"Just say it already" Lady exhaled.
"Aya and Amira started killing people as sacrifices so they can earn even greater powers" Mai relayed to Lady without skipping a beat.
Lady's heart froze, her body froze and she even forgot how to breathe as the words of the information sank into her brains. She knew her mother could be a little cruel especially to her but she was anything but to all those around her, especially the village folks. Her mother took them as her own family, helping them out when she can and now she is hearing that that same person is killing the same people she cherished as sacrifices.
"Lady!" Mai screamed and snapped Lady out of her thoughts" I asked if you would like to go with me" Mai continued after she gained Lady's attention.
Lady not finding her tongue to speak and even not trusting herself to say the right words just settled for a nod, no matter what she had to verify what she had heard to see if it's true.
"Alright," Mai said "Let's go"
And with that, the two warped into space and appeared at the banks of the village stream.
"Let's disguise ourselves, and blend in the people, and then we will make a move when Amira and Aya strike again," Mai said to Lady already in the process of disguising herself.
Lady copied Mai and disguised herself as an old woman who was almost bending at the waist. Whereas Mai had something like a black shawl around her shoulders, Lady had a brightly colored long loincloth around hers.
Mai snickered and chuckled" I never knew you could look so good in an old woman's body"
Lady just scrunched up her face and shook her head, she had no energy to argue with Mai.
So together, the two old ladies started walking towards the village, to see what was happening and one to confirm her doubts. Not long after, Mai and Lady both started feeling restless, it was as if their powers and divinity were being drained out of them. They glanced at each other with a knowing look in their eyes.
It'd better be something else, Lady prayed in her heart as they allowed their power to guide them to where the problem lies. After a long walk and winding through corners and bushes, they finally arrived at where they were supposed to be.
"Finally" Lady gave out a sigh of relief.
Suddenly they heard a wail "Please don't, please spare my life" a sad voice pleaded.
They lifted their eyes and saw that not far from where they were standing was Amira and Aya, with Aya sitting on a large rock with a silly smirk on her face as Amira stood over a young woman with an evil grin. Next to the woman was a young man who seemed to be the same age as the woman lying dead on the ground with blood oozing out of every hole on his face. He was extremely pale and it wouldn't take a genius to know that he had been drained of his blood.
"Don't tell me my mother did that" Lady whispered shaking her head vigorously.
"Do you even need me to talk?" Mai chastised her a little.
Tears rolled out of Lady's eyes and she felt her whole world crumbling down on her, everything she had held onto, the last shard of dignity and the last shard of respect she had for her mother all slipped and crumbled down to the ground.
"Why?" she cried asking no one in particular.
"It's because she has been possessed" Mai muttered.
"What?" Lady turned to Mai.
"Yes, Aya had made a deal with the gods of darkness so she could gain more power especially after her defeat and in return she would sacrifice humans for them ao she would always grow powerful and retain her power" Mai explained.
"Is there something we can do?" Lady asked wishing that she could at last get a glimmer of hope.
"No" Mai shook her head, "I'm afraid not. She bad merged fully with Aya and now there's no going back. The only solution is to take away their divinity and power and that would eradicate them and end this chaos"
Lady sighed and then the wail came again and so they returned their gazes back to where Aya and Amira were. There they saw Amira's hand glistening with her power as she laughed about to kill the young woman.
Before Mai could say a word, Lady whipped to the place standing in front of the young woman in a blur, blowing off her disguise to gain her own appearance.
"Don't you even think about" Lady
snarled with raw anger spiralling in her eyes, an unknown dangerous fire dancing in her eyes.
"Oh my, oh my" Aya stood up from her position on the rock with one of her signature laughs "What do we have here?"
Lady glared at her, a glare which didn't faze Aya in the slightest as she proceeded " Is that naughty sister of mine around?"
"Do you ask for me, dear sister?" Mai materialised and asked with a sinister smile.
"Well, this is going to be interesting" Amira remarked with smirk.
