Issac looked out over the fiery hills of the first circle of hell. He'd called this place home for a millennia. Hell is a lonely place, it is vast, and though all of the sinners who ever lived came here, it was rare to meet a human. It had been centuries since he'd last stumbled across a human here, and even when he did he didn't stick around long. Issac was set on finding his way to the human world. He hoped there he would be accepted.
As a child Issac had been deemed a failure. "He's too soft," An older demon had said. "Can't stomach even basic forms of torture." His teacher remarked. "What a failure"
His mother, though she had tried to steel herself for what everyone had said would be inevitable, would not watch her only son be killed. So she took Issac to the first circle, before he could be killed.
"My son, this is a place where you might remain safe." His mother said through tears. "Keep walking deeper, so they won't find you." Issac looked at his mother with wide eyes. "Mommy?" He asked, still too young to understand why he had to go. She passed him a bag. It had only the bare necessities. "I have to go back now sweetie. I love you." She kissed him on the top of his head then disappeared. "MOMMY!!" Issac cried out, he had never been so afraid in his short life.
He stayed there for hours, waiting, hoping for his mother to come back. But she didn't, she couldn't, she was busy in the depths of hell, trying to keep the demon committee from finding and killing him. There was a cave nearby, Issac decided to go there, it seemed safer. Night came, marked by the horrible sounds of creatures meant to terrify the sinners. Issac opened the bag and found a note his mother had packed in it.
"My love,
I know you are scared, I am too. You know your final evaluation was coming soon, but what you hadn't known was what the committee was going to choose. I had to protect you, and to do that I had to let you go. I am forever sorry. There is a legend, that at the furthest reaches of hell's first circle there is a barrier between the human world and ours, that a demon might pass through and remain in the human world. To do so you'll need a deal with a human. I wish that you might make it there, and find acceptance for who you are.
With all of my love,
Mommy"
So Issac walked. One day he would find the barrier, then he would find happiness. He repeated this to himself night after night, until he saw it, and then he collapsed.
