Arthur stared at me for some seconds. The smile on his face faded away slowly. Did I say something wrong? Or does he have a date already?
Arhtu took my hand in his and took a step closer to me.
"Elena..." he started "I'm sorry. Deep down I would love to go to the prom with you as your date, but..." he paused
"Bur....what" I said softly. Does he have plans? I bet he already has a date, gosh I felt stupid.
"Trina already asked me to be her date right before we hung out the previous night" he said softly.
I let go of his hands abrutly, and I was about to walk away, but he placed a restraining hand on my arm and pulled me back.
"Listen Elena, I'm deeply sorry. I understand you feel..." he began to say
"Disappointed and embarrassed..." I said interrupting him rudely. I just wanted the ground to open up and swallow me at that moment.
Trina of all people...must he say yes? Why didn't he say no? Or did she force him?
"Disappointed yes, but i disagree with your second point. i appreciate your courage, most girls don't have the courage to ask guys out, just the way you just did. Where I'm from, they aren't damsels as courageous as you, except pretty maidens like Trina, who always got what they wanted whenever they want it. You're different, beautiful, and courageous, and any guy would be lucky to have you. I like that about you Elena...."
I blushed at every single compliment. Arthur definitely knows his way with ladies. As some would put it, he has a sweet mouth, but in other words, he has a way with his words. Even the way he calls my name, always gave me that tingling sensation inside.
"Arthur!" someone yelled from behind him. He shut his eyes close and lowered his head, then sighed. He acted like the person who called him had been bothering him or maybe annoying him lately.
"Yes Trina" he answered
what does that diva want now? I asked myself.
"Arthur you kept me waiting at the cafeteria" she said reaching his side. Trina sighted me immediately, she gave me on of those stink eyes most girls often did, but I ignored her and turned to Arhtur.
"What are you doing with her" she said, like my presence irritated her.
"Trina, she's my friend" Arthur said. But he looked annoyed. I just didn't know if I was the one annoying him or maybe Trina. "We were having an urgent conversation" he continued
"More important than me Arthur" she said "Well since you said she's a friend, did you tell her I'm your girlfriend as well"
At that moment my head felt lighter. My heart shattered and I felt like I was floating in an ocean of darkness. I desperately still wanted the ground to swallow me at that moment.
"You're my what?" Arthur asked in surprise
Trina laughed, "Baby, don't tell me you had forgotten we were dating. Girls like her doesn't want us together, she's jealous me, of us, that's why she brainwashed you to forgetting about us." she said giving him those annoying puppy eyes, but it was no where close to cute.
"Trina" Arthur called softly at the same time trying to break free from her grip around his arm. "Listen..."
"Are you breaking up with me?" she asked. And I don't know if she faked a tear or maybe it was genuine, but a tear ran down her cheek.
I think it's high time I left- i said to myself
"I'll see you around Arthur" I said and I left before he could say a word
"Elena" he called softly, but I pretended not to hear. I went straight to the chemistry lab, where Arthur said Kevin was. Thankfully, Kevin was still there with Ava.
Kevin turned to me immediately and rose from his seat. I didn't know when tears ran down my cheeks, neither did I know when I got to the ground.
"Elena" Kevin called softly. He immediately rushed to my side and so did Ava, they both tried to pick me up, but I told them both to let me be. Kevin then wrapped his arms around me, and I buried my teary face in his chest.
I cried and banged against his chest, expecting him to let go, but instead he tightened his arms around me and he began to stroke my hair to comfort me.
"Elena, everything is okay" he kept whispering into my ear. But everything was not okay. Why did I get so attached to Arthur? But despite how I felt, I never regretted saving him that evening.
"I'll let you two be, take care Elena" Ava said and she took her leave.
"Seat" Kevin said and he brought out a stool for me to seat. "Tell me what happened" he said softly.
"Trina got to him before me Kevin" I answered with an unsteady voice.
"What?" Kevin burst out.
"That's not all, they are dating now" I added
"Arthur never mentioned that to me." Kevin said
"He didn't know either, she just informed him" I said. "He was a shocked as you are right now, and I bet everyone knows now"
"Its okay Elena, I don't mind going to the prom with you..." Kevin said
"I don't want to go anymore" I said with an unsteady voice, cutting him off.
"You are, and you will" Kevin said "I can explain to Ava, I'm sure she would understand."
"No" I burst out "don't cancel your plans with Ava, she really likes you. Do you know how long she's been crushing on you? And if you explain to her that it's because of me you didn't go with her, she might develop some kind of beef towards me."
"But there's no way I'm leaving you alone on that day. You know what, I'm going to speak to Lorenzo. He isn't planning on going anyways, but I'm sure he would change his mind if I explain to him" Kevin said.
"I still don't want to go, since Arthur is going to be there" I said with a displeased facial expression.
"You will, either you want to or not. After school, I'm taking you cloth shopping, or shopping g for clothes. I really don't know what you girls call it..." the word shopping alone was fine, I wanted to say to Kevin. "....but till then, I'm heading to the cafeteria, I'm hungry" Kevin said. "Aren't you?"
"Arthur would be there too" I said sounding like a five year old child who didn't want to speak to his or her parents, because they didn't get him or her a bicycle or something.
Kevin slapped his forehead, then shook his head slowly. "Fine, I'll bring lunch to you then, your majesty"
"Thank you" I said softly
