"What's wrong?" Diego asked. He looked worried.
"Nothing" I answered
"You are too quiet Elena, something is wrong. Did anyone offend you in school?" he asked
"No and I said I'm fine"
"Alright then, I'll be in my room if you need me." Diego said and he rose up from my bed .
He finally made it to the room door, and when he was about to the door knob, I stopped him.
"Diego" I called softly.
He turned around slowly and stared at me.
"Have you ever loved someone so much, even their absence affects you mentally?" I asked
"Hmmm...." he sighed "...it happens though and the mind is the most affected part. Most times you start seeing people that look exactly like the person that's absent, with just a minor difference between them; like skin colour, or maybe hair colour or even their smile. Most people just dress the same way as the person you're missing, and it triggers memories. Or maybe sound quite similar to the same person you're missing. At this point, your mind is trying to adjust to their absence. That's why most times, one is always advised to engage in activities to get one's mind off that person." he answered still standing at my room door way. "Did I answer your question?"
"I...guess so..." I said sounding unsure.
"Hope this question isn't related to your math problem, Arhtur" he asked "But you do know it's normal to miss someone. I missed you badly while I was away. I just couldn't wait to return home"
"I know, and I know it's normal to miss someone" i said
"It's Arthur isn't it?" he asked
"I don't want to talk about it" i said pulling my blanket over my hips.
Diego was about to speak once more, but i interrupted him. Honestly it wasn't my intention, I would have waited till he said what he wanted to say, but I feared maybe what he wanted to say, might cause me to forget what I wanted to say.
"How would you fell if the girl you loved badly, was with another guy who doesn't value her the way you do; like he's telling with her feelings." I asked
"But did the girl ever love me back?" he answered my question back with another question, seriously!
"Of course she does" I answered
"No" Diego said softly and he shook his head.
"How does all this relate to Arthur? Does Arthur actually love her back?" he asked
"You see...right from the beginning of our conversation, I already knew who you were referring to. Firstly, you didn't laugh or reply me when I mentioned your math problem, Arthur being the cause of your weird questions, that I still don't understand. You normally blush or smile whenever I tease you with his name, but you are dull to the extent of his name not causing you to smile. So please, can you just tell me what's really wrong, and stop beating around the Bush. You can just ask me directly, I promise not to judge" he said.
I remained on my bed quiet, I had nothing to say.
"Elena" he called me, but softly. "You can't ignore him forever you know. At some point you would have to speak to him. Forget the fact he is with that diva, it still didn't change him or his name. Arthur sounds like very intelligent guy, mature enough to know what's right even if it's standing before him. It could be possible maybe Trina had something he wanted, and for him to get it, he had to bare the title, BOYFRIEND. Or maybe she might have forced him, you can tell unless you ask. Ask him."
Wow, I wasn't expecting this from Diego. I guess that's why he remains my favourite.
"Thank you" I said
"Anytime little sis" he said. He was about to leave and I stopped him again.
"Wait!" I said and I stopped
"How did you know about what I'm all bumped about?" I asked. I realised he called Arthur Trina's boyfriend in his speech, but I never told him a thing that happened today.
"Kevin already gave me the details before I came to your room" he said.
"Arrgh.." I cried in frustration "You made me think you could see through me, out!" I said and he left laughing.
Diego actually was right. Why don't I find out why he agreed to be her date at first, and why he didn't he object being her boyfriend. Arthur is very much approachable and quite an understanding human being. But firstly, I have to apologise to him, for my childish behaviour.
Should I call or text?
I picked up my phone, scrolled through my phone's contact, searching for Arthur's phone number. I finally found it, but I didn't text immediately. I thought of how I would start or construct the message. I have to be careful, I don't know if Trina has access to his phone.
I texted him "Hi" and he replied less than a minute later.
"Hey" he texted back
"I'm sorry for the way I acted towards you today" I texted
"It's cool. You had every right to remain angry and I get it, don't apologise" he texted
"Thanks for understanding"
"Don't mention it" he texted "So what's up?" he added
"LOL nothing actually, except my ceiling and the starry night sky" I texted back
"You're funny, I actually meant is there anything you want to talk about? or is anything going on. I asked because it's passed your bed check, and you're still up." he texted.
"Honestly, I had trouble sleeping" I texted and all he replied was "Oh ok"
"Can I ask you something?" I asked
"Sure" he texted back
"Why did you agree to be Trina's date to the prom? And why didn't you object when she called you her boyfriend, even though you weren't aware of that decision?"
But after that last text, I never got a reply. Did he just air me? Or was the question to tense for him to answer?
"Hello" I texted few minutes later, but he was already offline.
What was the meaning of this?
