Chapter 1 - Start of something new

This is why I can't have nice things. Covered in hot, foamy coffee and the center of attention, I tried to make a discreet exit, but Heaven forbid I get out with my dignity intact.

The person I wanted to see the least in the world walked in just as the hot liquid spilled over my cream blouse I had very carefully picked for this day. This very important day.

Professor Charles Morrison had been in my life since I could remember. Three years older, three classes above, three steps ahead, Hell, growing up he'd even been just three houses down. He was everything I always wanted to be and to him I was the awkward little sister of his friend, chasing his shadow. Clumsy, geeky, dorky Abby.

God, I'm such an idiot to think I could do this with grace. I pulled at my soaked shirt and hurried my way out of the cafeteria as my cheeks flamed red. "Abby?" A deep voice questioned behind me, trying to pretend I didn't hear, I dipped my head down and ignored the footsteps catching up to me. A warm hand grasped my arm lightly "Abigail Lutsy?" He questioned again and I turned to meet his gleaming grey eyes.

"Professor Morrison" my voice cracked as I crossed my arms over my coffee drenched chest and one of his perfectly shaped eyebrows shot up as a grin spread across his face "Professor Lutsy then" he laughed "very professional of you, I didn't realize your interview was today, James was supposed to tell me what day that was happening" he ran a hand through his auburn hair and his sharp jaw line clenched as his eyes traveled the stain hidden partially by my arms.

I felt my own eyebrows shoot up and another blush lit up my cheeks "you cared about my interview?" I asked without thinking and I felt even the tip of my ears turn red from the power of my blush.

His laugh was deep and washed over me and I suddenly felt like I was home again, I shook the feeling as he began speaking again. "You're even cuter when you're surprised Clutzy Lutsy" he chuckled as he turned to walk away "I look forward to working together."
