Chapter 2 - (1) Rays of Dawn - Enas' Story

'Yellow.'

'All I see is this grating yellow sand in this godforsaken desert.'

'I have been walking for days and I have finally run out of water and food.

'Is this it?

'I've come to his world just to die from dehydration? Or maybe exhaustion would take hold first?

The person trudging along the desert had a long brown cloak draped over her young body. A rough-looking headwear was protecting her head from the storm.

Although her features were of a teenager, one can see the innate beauty that would blossom if one didn't already assume from her pointed ears. An elf, known for their beauty and tranquility could not look more pitiful in this harsh environment.

Enas, that was her name, or at least the previous owner of this body. Humans were alike everywhere in that they do not like those who were different. Despite being a child, she was cast away merely because her mother was an elf.

'What can you expect from Humans who feel the need to be superior and bring down others?'

Being the offspring of a slave that was an elf no less wasn't taken too well. Her father ignored her mostly while her siblings did whatever they wanted to do to her. Her only solace, her only light that could help her escape this torture, her mother died at birth. She hasn't seen a friendly face since the day she was born.

At first, she resented her mother. Everything about the situation. Stupid questions constantly popped up into her mind as the years went by with her abuse only getting harsher.

'How could you have given birth to me? Why did you have to be captured? Why couldn't you be alive to protect me?'

She could no later take it anymore when she heard the possibility of selling her as a prostitute from her siblings and decided to escape. They said they had their fun with her like she was a toy and decided to get some pocket money. Sick bastards. Staying there any longer would probably break her already diminishing will.

A naive young girl, who barely knew about the harsh world that would await her wanted to take off. Enas was at least smart enough to stash away rations of food and water underneath her clothes before she took off in the dead of the night. It was already a miracle that she didn't get caught by the lax security of the estate and city. Running without a planned direction, she only hoped to get as far away as possible.

Her father had only found out in the morning after her siblings went to her room when she didn't come to eat. Not wanting her to escape, he used all his resources and connections as a cultivator to find her. Such a stain on his reputation was not allowed to live where he couldn't see her. No matter how hard they looked, they would never have expected her to travel towards Gale's Desert. A death trap for even cultivators.

Well neither did she. But fate forced her legs to keep moving lest she got caught and returned. It's not like she knew much of the world before her. The only thing she really brought was her mother's ring that her father graciously let her have. Or more rather find in her mom's possessions.

It wasn't called Gale's Desert for no reason. The further you travel, the stronger the sandstorms will be until you were eventually hit with a wall of sand sweeping anyone alive. She pushed those stories out of her mind and continued to run. With her lack of talent and young age, it took a toll on her both physically and mentally.

She was almost buried alive from the sand. With no more energy, she could not walk any longer. That was when someone else took her place. Someone that inherited the will of Enas, and fully intended to carry on her journey.

---

Enas was still currently walking through the endless desert with her vision slightly blurry. It had been seven days since the current Enas first set foot on her journey and she thought it was finally coming to the end. With only one ending. Her death in the sand that would go unnoticed by anyone. No one in the world would have cared and some would even laugh.

As she felt the excruciating pain on her legs from the way the sand grinding on them, her shoes torn down long ago, she was able to make out another color in the distance. She thought she was hallucinating. All she heard were stories of people being in delusion while in a situation like hers. She didn't know how true they are but with something like it happening in front of her, how could she still doubt it? But no matter how many times she wiped her dry eyes, the gray structure was still there.

Seeing this rejuvenated whatever was left inside of her and she started walking with a quickened pace, a glint sparkling in her eyes. She ignored the pain with the possibility of survival being the only thing in her mind. Getting closer and closer, she can see that the grey structure was what was left of a tower.

The door was covered in moss and the tower was slightly sunken in. You couldn't tell it was anything important if it weren't for the welcoming, slight pull that was encouraging Enas to go inside.

Sheltered from the sun, she swung open the door when she came up to it and immediately started to look around for literally anything that would help her survive.

All she found was bricks upon bricks. Dust upon the dust. Nothing upon nothing. There was not a thing, not even a trace of furniture or food that would help her. The stairs of the tower have collapsed making it impossible for the current Enas to climb up to the top with her weakened strength. Too tired from the continuous march, she took what she could get and laid down on the stone floor.

'I guess I can just use this as a shelter before heading out again tomorrow.'

---

Enas woke up due to a strange heat that was even hotter than the desert sun. The planet's two suns would be more accurate. She felt strangely comfortable in this heat compared to the dry desert making her more curious than ever. Opening up her dry lids, she pulled herself up once again.

When she looked around, she noticed the starry sky indicating nighttime. Usually, it would be extremely cold at night in the desert so she was confused with the weird temperature. Feeling drawn to the strange heat, she started to look around for the source.

Seeing a brick glow slightly underneath a few of its brothers, Enas struggled to get the bricks off of the special one. When she finally reached the glowing brick, she picks it up with wonder.

"T-This is my ticket to survival? A glowing brick? You got to be kidding me!"

She couldn't help but exclaim out loud. After all, it was a brick, how could a brick help her!? Her thoughts were promptly interrupted when the brick started to lose its glow like a withering light bulb.

Startled, she started to look all around it and even shook it in desperation. It looked as if she had truly gone crazy.

"Wait I'm sorry for doubting you! Brick-sama don't leave me too!"

She would have cried if she still had any moisture in her eyes. All she could do was silently weep at her spiraling misfortune.

'Being reincarnated into a fantasy world like mine would have been amazing if I just landed in the right body!'

She was moved back into reality when she still noticed the heat where the brick was at previously. A shining light was being emitted from that spot in all its glory.

Approaching the strange light, Enas looked at the source of the light to see a golden piece of metal beckoning her to pick it up.

She felt a faint familiarity from it and held it in her hand inspecting it closely.

It had a smooth round edge until it abruptly stopped and a jagged line ripped through to the other side of it. Like a coin but was somehow ripped apart like a piece of paper.

Inspecting the coin, she saw that on one side, it had a smooth engraving of a letter D that glowed ever so conspicuously. It was assaulting her face with heat but she didn't burn herself from holding the coin with the white letter D looking at her.

'Ah!'

Before she could react, the coin's light started to spread all across the room covering everything. Soon everything in her vision was replaced by pure whiteness.
