Amy felt Kiya's hand jerk away from hers as she watched her fall down on the floor. For a millisecond, Amy considered leaving her there as more noises drew closer towards them and could be heard even from where she stood.
However, she immediately tried to help her and ran towards Kiya who was struggling to remove her heels even though one of her legs was tinged red and was gradually starting to swell.
Distracted, both of them failed to notice a human male body, one of the mindless beings they had seen, quietly sneak up on them before jumping suddenly on Kiya, attaching itself to her by biting hard on her left leg, the one she had not long ago, managed to sprain.
"Aaaah," screamed Kiya in pain.
Reacting as fast as she could, Amy kicked the head attached to Kiya's ankle with the whole of her strength and was glad to see the neck snap back as it released Kiya slamming its head against the wall.
Amy quickly helped Kiya up, yanked her heels off, and dragged her quickly towards the door of the Maintenance department which was the closest door with a lock, while Kiya groaned in pain.
They were only a few steps away from the door when, a different human body suddenly appeared in the corridor growling as it raced and swung itself sideways against a far-away wall, breaking its bones and splattering a few drops of its blood on the wall. Regardless, it lifted up its black and lifeless eyes and zeroed it on Amy and Kiya.
The first person to spot it was Amy and her heart started racing with terrifying fear.
Quickly, as she saw the mindless body start to wobble with amazing speed towards them, she walked rapidly enough to reach the door in seconds.
After opening it, she immediately shoved Kiya past the door and was in the process of entering through the doorway when she suddenly felt something latch on to her right hand.
It terrified her to see such a thing be close enough to touch her. The moment she felt its hands on her she forcefully pulled her right hand into the room along with the rest of her body before slamming the door shut and in less than a second she had locked it behind her.
The disfigured and mindless body that seemed to Amy to be a woman's own, kept on throwing itself against the door to break it and get to the people behind it but Amy and Kiya had their backs against the door, supporting it with their weight.
The banging on the door continued but they both tried their best to ignore it.
Amy was still trying to take deep breaths to recover from the shock that she got when from the corner of her eye, she suddenly saw Kiya pointing to her arm.
"You're bleeding," said Kiya alarmed to see the big scratches on Amy's hand start to darken against her pale skin.
"You mean to say we are bleeding," said Amy as she also took a look at Kiya's wound only to discover that it looked worse than her own.
The skin was deeply torn apart and unlike hers that was only starting to darken with a strong dark aura around it, the inside of Kiya's own was completely dark including the blood that was dripping from it.
Kiya knew that she was in trouble as she stared at her wound, before tearing off a strip of cloth from her long-sleeved top to tie the wound and at least stop it from bleeding.
Amy too was worried and she couldn't help but think of how perilous their situation was. They had no way of getting out of the building and even if Kiya had some ninja skills she had been hiding, with their wounds and the number of monsters in the building with them, she couldn't think of a way of safely escaping.
" What do you think happened to those people outside? Why have they suddenly turned psycho? Did you notice their black-filled eyes? It's almost like their minds are totally gone. I mean who bites other humans for goodness same. They looked at us like we were food...food." Amy suddenly started to ramble as she couldn't wrap her head and mind at the events that had been happening to them.
Kiya understood how Amy felt as she similarly felt like all hope was lost. Kiya was also feeling a little light-headed and tired and mostly blamed it on the loss of blood from her wound.
She was staring at the floor in silence while Amy too seemed to be lost in her thoughts when Kiya spotted her phone beside her. At that moment she thought of calling the police and wondered why both of them at never at some point, thought of doing that.
Picking up her phone, she quickly looked and it and discovered that the service was good. Quickly, she started to dial 911.
Amy watched her wondering what she was doing and who she was calling when she saw Kiya mouth the word 'police' to her and Amy instantly thought that it was a good idea.
It started to ring and the Joy on Kiya's face was indescribable when it connected and the call suddenly went through.
" Hello! Hello... Police! We're in trouble. There are monsters all around and most of my employees are dead and I can't seem to find the rest of them. A part of Houston's company is destroyed and we are stuck in the other half. We need to be rescued as soon as possible..." Said Kiya as fast as possible to communicate the urgency of the situation they were in.
She paused in order to wait for a response and was shocked to hear a large number of growls in the background. It seemed to be the same kind of sounds that kept coming out of the mouths of the human monsters that bit her and tried to rip Amy's hand off.
In a state of shock, she slowly lowered the phone as she turned to look at Amy.
"What did the police say?" Amy quickly asked hoping to hear some good news.
Kiya replied with a sigh and a shake of her head to convey how she felt
"We are dead," Kiya said in a whisper loud enough for Amy to hear.
