Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Keep Your Enemies Close.

In another corner of the empire, Kiya felt her consciousness awaken as she felt the darkness around her dissipate and was surprised to find herself in a majestic house she had never seen before.

It had an antique feeling to it and instead of seeing lightbulbs, all she saw was shiny chandeliers and lamps placed above and around the room she found herself in.

Kiya was lying on a big bed but as she raised her upper body up in preparation to get down, she was shocked to see the image of a young beautiful woman across the room in a wide mirror, directly opposite where she was.

The woman she was starring at was magnificent and the number of precious stones on the red gown she was wearing was unbelievable.

She could tell that they were real because of her love for jewelry but even when she was a CEO of a large company there was no way she would have been able to afford it if she spent her yearly salary.

Amy turned around and was about to get down from the bed when she discovered a small bottle in her hand.

Taking a closer look at it, it had a tiny inscription on it, "poison".

Immediately, she understood how she came to be occupying the body of the woman she was in, and the strange room she had never stepped her foot in before.

" With all the beautiful things she has, why would she commit suicide?" Kiya asked herself as she carefully thought about all the things that could have happened to the former owner of her new body.

"It would even be worse if she didn't commit suicide and was killed instead. Someone could have bewitched her or used magic on her,"

Kiya couldn't help but mutter these words aloud as she looked around wondering what enemies could be lurking around in her home.

Kiya knew something was fishy about the memories of the former host of the body that she had because no matter how hard she tried to remember her last memories before she died, she couldn't.

Kiya was still deep in her thoughts when she suddenly heard a knock on the door of her room.

Startled, the first thing she thought of doing was looking for a way to escape.

She struggled to slide down the bed she had been on and she tried her best to move in the tight corset she was wearing. The gown was beautiful and it covered the full length of her body, but since Kiya wasn't used to wearing something so heavy and tight around her waist, she found it very difficult to breathe in.

"If I had to wear this kind of clothes every day, I might actually contemplate suicide," said Kiya as she grumbled within herself.

She had barely taken a few steps away from the bed when she heard another series of knocks, which was louder than the former ones.

Instead of going to the door, she took another look around her spacious and heavily decorated room. As she looked around, her mind quickly recalled that the other door in the room she was in led to the lavatory and except she had a way of escaping through there she was definitely stuck.

"Right now, I can't help but wish Amy was here, " Kiya thought as she looked towards the door wondering what she could do.

With all the courage she could summon, she slowly moved towards the door and suddenly jerked back when she heard the sound of a key being inserted into the lock on the opposite side of the door.

She was about to scream when she saw the door open only to see one of her personal maids step in.

The moment the maid stepped in, she was shocked to see her mistress and hung her mouth open in surprise before stammering out her words.

" My lady Sahana I...I th..thought something had happened to you because you weren't responding so I went to get a key from the butler, I apologize for intruding without your permission," she said bowing half of her body to the ground.

Kiya knew who the maid was but what she was suspicious about was the way she was behaving. The maid was obviously shocked to see her mistress in her OWN room and now she looked terrified.

Yet, from the memories she had, the former owner of the body she was in 'a daughter of one of the dukes of the empire, was a kind-hearted person who treated every servant well.

"It's obvious that she didn't expect me to be alive," Kiya thought as she continued to stare at the maid who hadn't moved from her position.

" It's fine Ophela, you may lift your head," said Kiya standing with her head straight and shoulders aligned with her body in the easy she imagined the noble ladies of the empire stood.

"Why are you here?" Kiya asked with a soft smile on her face.

"I came to tell you that your family is waiting outside for you. You can't be late for your coming of age banquet," she said in a somewhat calm manner without stuttering this time around.

Kiya silently decided to do nothing to the maid whom, the dead Sahana had trusted, knowing fully well that she most likely had a hand in her death.

" It's like being surrounded by thieving and disloyal shareholders and employees all over again," Kiya thought as she signaled for the maid to fix her hair. It didn't look as magnificent as it was supposed to be.

In a few minutes, Ophela was done and Kiya quickly stood up and left her room.

"Since I'm here to supposedly save the world, I'm pretty sure I can take some time out for revenge," Kiya thought with a smirk on her face as she walked quickly knowing fully well that as a noble lady, it wasn't proper to be early and yet she couldn't afford to be late.
