"Serious?" Terry asked skeptically, and even Anthony, who was the most naive of us, was also looking a little dubiously at Brunt.

"Yes, when I was first told I didn't believe it either, but so far no teacher has stayed for a long time" Brunt said, "If you don't believe me, ask some older student"

"That's true?" Terry asked Jenkins, who nodded in affirmation.

"It's true. I'm already in my sixth year and so far no DADA teacher has stayed for very long, they all leave after a year," Jenkins said.

"Some teachers left for family problems, work-related injuries, personal reasons and—" Grade 6 Ashley Wright also joined in and started saying, until she was cut off by Phillips.

"And there were even some teachers who died!" Phillips said dramatically.

My classmates who heard this gasped in surprise and fear. And then they started to question the other students about whether this was true, who died, how they died, etc.

"Yes, by chance a teacher actualy died..." Jenkins replied patiently, glancing slightly at Phillips for scaring the early years, "But that was a case apart... And he was also pretty old as far as I knew, so don't worry with that," she reassured us.

'Would it be a bad time to say that our teacher is going to die at the end of this year?' I questioned myself.

"So next year are we going to have another teacher?" Anthony asked hopefully.

"Probably," Jenkins replied with a shrug.

"Thank you Merlin" Anthony thanked relieved, "I don't think I could stand Quirrell so long as our teacher"

"So that means next year we'll have a decent teacher," Terry said happily.

'Yeah, right' I thought sarcastically, remembering that Lockhart fraud would be our 2nd Grade DADA teacher, 'Absolutely a decent teacher'

"If all the professors at DADA have left after a year for some reason, what will be the reason for Professor Quirrell's departure?" Terry asked curiously.

"I don't know, maybe the vampire he says attacked him in Romania will come after him to finish the job," Lisa Turpin, our classmate, said in mockery.

"Or maybe his own shadow attacks him while he's sleeping," Brocklehurst said, adding his two Knuts to the conversation.

And then everyone started to come up with their own ideas about what the reason for Professor Quirrell's future departure is going to be. And each reason was weirder and more unlikely than the other, like 'Maybe he'll be devoured by the giant squid' or 'He can be turned into a candle to light up the Great Hall forever', and there were even a few who came very close to the truth. saying that 'He may be possessed by some spirit', and that 'He will lose to a duel against Harry Potter', the latter being said by MacDougal dreamily.

Even I added my Knuts to the conversation saying 'He's going to fall in love with one of the Black Lake Selkies. And together, they'll run off on a grand romantic adventure'... Okay, that wasn't my best guess, but it's more believable than saying 'He's serving as a vessel for the greatest dark lord of all time , and that they are at Hogwarts in search of the Philosopher's Stone, an alchemical artifact that grants wealth and immortality to the wearer, where they plan to use it to resurrect the so-called dark lord, but they will be defeated by an 11-year-old boy who doesn't have it knowledge of any offensive or defensive spells, and that he will defeat them using the power of the 'love' his mother left him'.

After this conversation, we all continued to eat calmly, with a few conversations here and there, where I would give my opinion in a few moments or when asked.

When dinner was over, everyone started to go to their common rooms, or to their offices, in the case of the Professors and the Headmaster.

Arriving in the Ravenclaw common room, Terry called us to play chess, and since I hadn't played wizard chess yet, I decided to accept...

"Damn Ethan! How good can you be even at this!" Terry asked me irritably after his third loss at my hands.

"There has to be something he's not good at," Anthony, who has lost four times to me, grumbled in annoyance.

"That thing doesn't exist yet" I said dismissively, "Who's next?" I asked looking at the people around who stopped to watch the game.

"I'm out"

"I don't even know how to play chess"

"Nah, maybe another time"

"Hmph, he can't even be that good" Phillips snorted disdainfully, seeing everyone refuse to play against me, "Give me space and watch, I'll show you how to play" he continued arrogantly as he sat down across from me.

"Are you sure about that?" Jenkins asked him with a raised eyebrow.

"Of course! It even looks like I'm going to lose," Phillips said proudly.

Some minutes later...

"Th-That... I... How is that possible?!" Phillips exclaimed in horror.

"Lucky maybe," I replied with a shrug.

"B-But... But... I... You... Chess..." Phillips stammered as he gaped at me.

"Well I guess that's it for today" I said as I got up from the couch, ignoring the catatonic Phillips in front of me, "I'm going to my room to sleep, Goodnight!" I then said goodbye. And so I let the other students continue to play wizard chess, and went to my room.

Back in my room, I found Nyx playing with a cat toy on the bed. And as soon as I walked in, Nyx stopped what she was doing and threw herself into my arms the moment I dropped my bag.

"Hi girl" I told her, "How was your day?" I asked.

"Meow!" Nyx meowed, conveying feelings of boredom.

"Looks like you didn't find anything interesting to do...Hmm, tomorrow you can take a walk around the castle while I'm in class" I told Nyx, and I could feel the joy and happiness coming from her.

"Miau!"

"Good," I said with a soft smile.

I then placed Nyx on the floor and grabbed my toiletries and went to my personal bathroom.

When I was done, I changed into my nightwear and sat on the bed with an Ancient Runes book in hand. I then started reading, and after a while the tiredness of the day finally hit me and I slowly closed my eyes until I fell asleep.

End.
