Chapter 3 - Locked

"I absolutely cannot agree to such an absurd request!" the assistant stood up as he slammed the table with his fists.

"Defying the high king isn't a wise thing to do, I thought the prince knew better than this!" the assistant remarked.

"I was just asking, no need to get so worked up." Carlos said, his request wasn't absurd at all. It was only about seeking permission to visit the garden with guards. However, the assistant thought of it as Carlos defying the king himself.

"Defying the king is-" the assistant stop his rumbling when he felt a chill crawl down his back. Carlos was now looking at him with his magnificent royal blue eyes that asserted his dominance, hinting that he wanted silence.

"If this..ever gets leaked to the king." Carlos paused as he walked over to the assistant and pointed a finger at the person's forehead.

"My foresight tells me that, you might just die." he said threateningly before turning and leaving the room, leaving a trail of cold air that freezed the room.

Carlos bit his lips nervously once he had left the room, he had no hope of convincing father himself without the help of someone that has a high authority that the king trusts with decisions.

Stranded with no alternatives at all, feeling defeated, he headed back to his room as quiet as he could manage, it was nighttime and he didn't want to be caught redhanded sneaking around.

Looking out the window from the floor above, he could see mutiple knights on duties, there were more than usual. Acknowledging this information, he knew that his father was serious and determined to not let him have his way.

Reaching his room, he closed the door quietly as he could. Making sure nobody was in the room he rampaged through his wardrobe, digging up the bag he had hidden earlier.

Grabbing clothes that could last him for a few days, he folded them and shoved them in his bag. He couldn't see anything due to the lack of light in the room but if he were to activate light crystals, people would know that he is awake at such a suspicious time.

Ignoring the darkness, he went through his desk as he feel around the cabinet, grabbing a hold of a dirty rolled up piece of paper, he heaved a sigh of relief. He blew the dust off the map as he gently placed it in his bag, being careful not to crumple it.

"I'll check it tomorrow morning." he quietly reminded himself verbally while taking the packed bag and hiding it under his bed where Helbert rarely cleaned or notice.

"Money." he mumured to himself, going through his small bag of coins, he counted his savings. It consisted of 42 gold coins, 17 silver ones and 6 copper coins.

Carlos was sure that he had sufficient money to provide him with food but he wasn't so confident about renting a place to stay. He wasn't sure of the cost of staying at inns as he had never been to one.

Carlos placed his small bag of coins into his bag and zipped it. He walked over to his window, carefully looking down to avoid his presence being detected. He smiled at the walls that always blocked him from seeing the view of the world. "Just a bit longer." he whispered before going to bed.

The next morning, Helbert woke up the exhausted Carlos who slept like a log. "Young Master Carlos, please wake up. Your presence is needed for today's breakfast." the butler urged as he shook Carlos.

Waking up, Carlos nodded and gestured Helbert to leave the room. "I'll be there in the dining room within 10 minutes."

Looking around, Carlos grabbed the stack of clothes beside him that Helbert had prepared. Looking himself in the mirror, he made sure he didn't look haggard in any way. Looking at his silver hair and deep blue eyes, he sighed. "Why was I born a Vuiton?" he mumured before leaving the room.

Reaching the dining room, he realized that it was much more emptier than usual, he peeked his head in only to see his father sitting at the head of the table, tapping impatiently on the table as of waiting for him.

Carlos gulped as he breathed heavier than before, all thoughts ran through his mind. 'Why is he here? Where is Claude and Aiden? Why is-' his train of thoughts were stopped by a loud clang of plates in the dining room.

Looking in, he saw a servant shaking in fear as he furiously apologized while taking napkins and cleaning the shoulder of his father. "What do you think you're doing?" Carlos shivered, contemplating whether he should walk in but he was stopped by the servant falling to his knees.

"I-- apologize! It was an accident, please forgive my carelessness!" the servant hit his head on the floor as he apologized.

"Is that so?" his father said coldly, the temperature in the room seemed to have dropped tremendously. Ice could be seen forming on the walls as it creeped nearer to the poor servant.

"I'm not in a good mood, should I just..kill you?" the king mumured out, still tapping his table.

The servant looked up in suprised as he shivered and shook his head, tears started forming in his eyes. He wanted to run but he dare not move, if he did his life would've ended much faster.

Suddenly, he felt a tight grasp on his throat, icy cold hands squeezed his throat, making him fight back in retaliation for air and to be free from the painful grasp of the king.

The king face expression didn't change while looking at his servant struggling for air. Feeling that it was unentertaining he decided to just kill the mere peasant infront of him.

"Father, I'm here." Carlos said loudly, hoping that his father would forget about the situation at hand. "I was expecting a peaceful evening father." he said, indirectly declaring for the king to let go of the servant.

And so he did, the king dropped the servant from the air. The servant gasped for air as he coughed continuously, feeling around his throat in fear. Realizing the scene infront of his eyes, he backed away.

The youngest prince of Vuiton and the ice kingdom's pride was now standing infront of him, with a rare cold look in his eyes that he rarely showed.

"Daring, aren't you?" the king mocked in a soft but scary tone.

"I dare say so." Carlos replied, his fear was exploding within him but he kept a strong front, he wasn't going to break and back down now.

He walked confidently to the chair across the king and sat down, glaring at his father. "Shall we?" Carlos said, picking up the utensils.

The king stared for a while before smiling. "We shall." he replied with content. It was a rare occurrence to see Carlos this cold and irritated, but seeing him like this. The king knew that this child was meant to be the king afterall.

They both ate their breakfast in silence, but however the king was not welcoming of the silence. "How is your little escape plan going along?" he said slyly, putting down his utensils and putting his hands together and looking at his son in anticipation.

Carlos remained calm as he put down his utensils lightly. "Terrified of your greatest possession leaving right under your nose?" he said, making eye contact with his father who was now staring at him as if he was being analyzed.

He was scared, he was terrified, but if he backed down now, when will he ever get the chance to speak his mind?

"Maybe I should just chain you to the tower of time and releade you right before your reign." the king muttered under his breath.

"What makes you think you can do that?" Carlos replied back in anger, he stood up slowly, having the urge to leave the dining room right at this moment.

"Don't raise your voice with me child." his father said, scarier than before, making Carlos's legs wobble with fear.

Carlos kept quiet amd sat back down reluctantly. "Can't I just..leave for a while? I won't even stay away for that long, so please. I'll do anything you ask of me when I come back. You can send me out with as many knights as you want just-" his babbling was soon cut off by the king's glaring.

"I'll never agree to your pathetic request. You were only born for one duty only, to rule the kingdom." his father stood up and walked over to Carlos.

"Have we been to lenient on you that your obedience has gone stray?" his father asked, hid eyes glowing a dangerous hue of blue.
