Chapter 4 - Running away no regrets

Claude's hand could be seen shaking as he slowly look up with a terrified look in his crystal blue eyes. "What do you mean.. You asked father!?" his voice slowly getting louder.

Carlos feeling threatened, he stepped back instinctively. "Claude, calm down." he said.

"What do you mean, calm down?!" Claude stood up and walked towards Carlos and grabbed him by the collar and looked down at him. "What are you going to do? Cause more trouble and escape?" he said in a cold tone.

Slapping his brother hand away, Carlos used all his strength and pushed his brother to the floor. "You know that's not what I meant! And you know it!" he yelled out in fustration.

"You're a liar, the biggest liar I've ever seen. You're going to leave just like MY mother did." he said under his breath, his eyes going out of focus.

"Don't compare me to someone else.. I thought you trusted me?!" Carlos snapped, placing his hands on his chest and gripping his shirt tight.

It wasn't meant to go this way, he has only just wanted to tell Claude his true feelings and his resentment for the palace and his dream of leaving it. He hadn't meant to trigger Claude's worst nightmare.

Carlos slowly bended down. "I'm sor-"

"You can leave for all I care, don't you dare regret it when you come back crying when you see the world isn't as bright as you imagined." he said before leaving Carlos alone in his room.

Carlos looked down on the ground before sitting down. "Why don't they ever try to understand me?" he muttered.

He grabbed his bag under his bed and checked if all the items were inside. He took a piece of paper and wrote Aiden and his mother a note, he didn't have a will to confront them right now, what if all their discussions lead to a terrible end just like with Claude?

Leaving the notes under their door, Carlos walked down the stairs. "I'm not doing this on a whim. What's the use of me having all this power, If I'm not going to take advantage of it?" he started smiling as his mana started swirling uncontrollably around his whole body, as if urging Carlos to push his power to his limits.

Finding the exit of the castle that lead to the garden, he walked past the guards with ease. Before they could even react, he froze them with no hesitation while he passed them.

The garden was unexpectedly filled with guards who were patrolling the area, when they had seen Carlos passing through the exit with such ease without any knights behind him holding him back, they gulped and got ready.

The knights stood their ground and held their weapons tight. They weren't about to fight and injure one of the royalties they served, if need be, they would immobilize Carlos with drugs.

However, their little plans crumbled the moment ice had been formed. Carlos was merciless, leaving no time for the knights to retaliate, he freezed the whole land ahead of him. Ice formed beneath his feet at an incredible rate.

It soon formed a huge iceberg that blocked the view of the knights and refrained them from moving, they were buried within the cold ice that struck them with fear. 'Even if we did have a ice affinity, it would never be this strong.' the knights thought as they panicked, struggling to break free from the ice.

A knight started melting the ice with his tremendously strong fire affinity, he soon got his comrades out beneath the ice. After he had done so, he chased after the small figure that could be seen running away through the tall ice weeds in the garden.

Left with no other alternatives, the knight apologized and started burning the garden down, making it roar with a great fire to trap and surround the young rebellious prince, stopping Carlos in his tracks.

"I did not expect this." Carlos said, turning around to see a knight with a scary look on his face advancing towards him with determination and fury.

"What..do you think you're doing?" the knight threatened, fire burning in the palm of his hands. As if indicating that if Carlos were to make any sudden moves, it would end up in vain due to the power of knight's affinity over the prince.

"Confident, aren't you?" Carlos whispered, cold breath fuming out from his mouth. "Ice may be weak to fire." he admitted before closing up the distance. "But it's me you're up against."

Ice formed around them in an instant, spikes lashed out, trapping the knight. However he was saved by his strong armor that withstand against the durable ice. The knight started melting the ice with his fire, but to no avail. The moment the ice melted, it formed again continuously.

"I'm sorry." Carlos said before turning his back after making sure that the knight was restrained and trapped long enough for him to make his escape. "Don't worry, I don't intend to kill anyone today." he said to the struggling knight.

After that, all was easy. The knights he met after were measly and weak, even with the fire affinity Carlos was weak against. He froze them with ease, without the need to even take out his sword that he rarely wield.

Carlos knew that if he went through the front gate, there would be too many people for him to pass through and defeat. Instead, he reached the wall that trapped him all his life. Forming a huge ice behind him, he braced himself for the impact.

The ice boulder and the wall crashed, resulting in an explosion. Alarming nearby guards and citizens. Taking advantage of the distraction, Carlos put on his black cloak and blended in the the orbits of dusts and pieces of ice and bricks.

He ran as fast as he could, not stopping to even look back. He didn't care if people noticed him or not. All he knew that he was free. Free from the suffocating walls that surrounded him all his life.

Carlos breathed in a deep breath, having the first feel of the cold fresh air outside the palace. He had always wanted to do this, to be able to be somewhere away from the excessive protection of the Vuitons. To be free from his duties and responsiblities.

Tears streamed down his face without Carlos even knowing, however, he was far too happy to care. He kept running with a smile on his face, eventually reaching a valley that was filled with stores and people crowding around shops to purchase their goods.

"So this is what the real world looks like." he blurted out, joy overwhelming his other senses, taking over him. He hurriedly took out his little pouch and grabbed a few silver coins and proceeded to put the pouch back.

Carlos skipped around the shops, in search for food to last him a few days as he knew, his final escape destination isn't going to end here. He wanted to visit as many kingdoms as he could, before he gets caught and forcibly dragged back to the kingdom he loathed.
