Present Day
Benny
Her taste still lingered in my mouth as we lay together afterwards, snuggled into each other, "Benny, you know I love you, right?" Jazz asked in a sleepy voice.
"Haven't doubted it once, Jazz, and I never will."
"Do you hate that I still can't answer you?"
"I already know the answer, baby, just waiting to hear you say it," I said in a soft voice, almost a whisper, I knew I could get away with the comment, it's the only reason I said it I had felt her body relax against mine, knew she had hit the point of no return, and was off to dreamland.
I gazed down at her, sleeping so peacefully in my arms, a small smile playing on her lips, and I couldn't help but wonder what she dreamed about. The last six months, I had done my best not to push, not to make demands, but after we made love, it was so hard not to tell her everything in my heart. I knew though she did not want to hear it right now. I tried to turn off the pain during the day, concentrate on each mission as it came our way. Kill the bad guys, save the innocent, yadda yadda yadda. And yet, I couldn't stop from thinking all the time. She was always asleep before me, it never failed, and I was left to lay and think about why she couldn't give me an answer. Why she didn't or couldn't see how I felt every time I looked at her. Just as I felt myself start to drift off, I was startled awake again. I could have sworn I heard movement outside the hotel room, someone in the hallway, Probably a maid service bringing someone an extra pillow, Lord knows this place most likely doesn't have room service, I thought to myself and I once again felt the Sandman dusting my eyelids with sand, I hoped I wouldn't dream about it again, no such luck as it all came back in vivid detail.
