Lifting up his head, the lawyer added.
-That aside. Lord Rivan has to officialize his statue before anything else to progress.
Rivan nodded in understanding.
-Mm
To be acknowledged as the new Duke of Whishipper, the testimony of the Dorben lawyer wasn't the only step. He had to go to the capital and stand in front of the crowd as the righteous Duke after receiving the acknowledgement of the royal council and family.
-We have to send a letter to request the royal palace for a formal ceremony.
Mr. Dorben hid the annoyance in his tone as he spoke. Rivan looked up at him and said meaningfully.
-The lawyer of the Whishipper household should be able to handle that much, right?
Larck had an expressionless face as he replied with confidence.
-Of course. I will make sure to request the royal palace and his Majesty for the ceremony.
Although Larck said it simply, he knew the process of such a request wasn't the slightest bit of easy. Those kind of things are what makes him dislike being a lawyer.
He will not be dealing with any nobles, the center of his ultimate despite. They were the royal family and the council.
The simple thought of having to send a letter to the newly crowned king made him shiver. It reminded him of his days as a student when he had a test and the teacher was his late father.
For reference, Larck did not enjoy those days.
Being a Duke, the highest rank of nobility after the royal family, gave his Lord an important place in the high society. The Duke's workers must always be of top class and never fail their given task.
'Like hell I care! Things progressed too fast! From handling a funeral and a wierd will to officializing the statue of a high rank noble!'
'Dear father...you HAD to be a lawyer?!'
Rivan smiled with satisfaction. When a thought flashed his mind, his peridot eyes lit up as he asked with rush.
-Can you determine the time of the officialization?
Mr. Dorben wasn't startled and answered briefly.
-After month or so. It shouldn't take longer than that to prepare for the ceremony after informing the palace. With my testimony, there should be no casualties on Lord Rivan's side.
Despite saying that, Larck's face seemed troubled. He was yet thinking of the young master's problem and how it will be another month of him straggling to persuade the council and the royalty for the absurd will.
Just as Larck was about to drift in thoughts again, he noticed something.
He looked up to see the young black haired Lord mumbling with a thoughtful face. His eyes seemed to darken as if they had no end to them. A person can mistaken another world to exist behind those pair of yellowish green eyes for how oddly mesmerizing they glittered.
Larck could swear he saw the pair of eyes flash with a yellow light. More than Peridots, they seemed like Heliodors.
Locks of curly black hair fell and cast a shadow on the pale face of the young Duke. An amused smile formed on Rivan's ghost-like white lips.
He looked like a demon who found a poor soul to devour. His dark cold aura almost had a shape of madness.
-One month and I can meet...
Rivan snapped from his thought and his face restored its calmness. Nonetheless, Larck has already printed that picture in his mind.
The honeyed voice of the young Lord flowed.
-Ms. Dorben, it looks like we have a lot of work ahead of us...in different aspects that is.
Larck nodded his head slowly. He decided to push away the negative thoughts to the back of his mind.
He must be imagining things again. Yes, he must be tired and overthinking. The young man in front of him is not normal, he have to admit that. But...he can't possibly be supernatural either...right?
Larck's expressionless face was always to his side. It helped him conceal all what he hid dealing with nobles. He was more than glad no one could look past his mask and into his crazy ideas.
He really wanted to laugh. What would this young Lord think if he found out this adult lawyer is suspecting him to not be a normal human being?
Larck dismissed his thoughts.
-I will start with everything from tomorrow. I have to visit the Dorben office for all the necessary papers. As for Lord Rivan, I will be informing you with all the details.
-There's no need.
-Yes I, what?
Rivan smiled softly but also spoke mischievously.
-I trust your judgment. You are a Dorben after all.
It was as if reminding him of the wright of his job and family name. Ms. Dorben firmly nodded.
-Very well, Lord Rivan.
Just as he was about to stand up and take his leave the black haired Lord called for him.
-Ms. Dorben, may I ask you something.
Although the young Whishipper spoke polity, his words had no questioning tone. it was more like an order waiting to be answered.
Yet Larck had his guard down due to the young Lord's calm atmosphere and with no intense dark aura.
-Please ask whatever you'd like.
That was the reason for his great shock hearing the following words.
-Do you know why I died?
The question was said simply with a smile, as if he was asking about what time was it.
Larck lost his expressionless mask for a second. He was taken aback for that was the last think he expected to hear.
He couldn't help but think.
'This little demon!'
Now he knows he shouldn't be thinking of the soon to be the Duke of the estate and his "Boss" as a demon. But even if this little Lord had no intend to hide his odd existence or supernatural-like things around him, Larck thought it was absurd. This young man wants to make him point at him and shout "you are not a human!" Or something like that.
