"Alrighty class, be safe now~~! Remember to bring your sportswear and change of clothes! Have fun!"
Waving all of us goodbye, we rush down the corridor with our extra clothes and sportswear in a backpack given by our parents.
Before today, I already told mom about my desire to join the team so she wholeheartedly supported me while dad just said
"un..."
and then he quickly fell asleep.
As we exit the school building and enter into the outdoors, we hear the loud chatter of the other sports team's varsity players. Mainly, the players in the 7th to 9th grade.
The high school teams of RF are on a different campus since they are much more serious than us.
The way that this place is designed makes it so that the swimming pool for swimming, water polo and diving are the farthest from the kindergarten sections which means that I need to pass through all the various courts and fields to get there.
"Oy Oy Oy! Over here!"
"Pass! Oh my God, pass the damn ball!!!"
"Woooohoooo!!!"
We hear the chatter of the different sports; soccer, basketball, baseball and the track and field runners. Some are cursing at their teammates while others cheering for a recently scored goal or point.
Some of the coaches are yelling too but the students seem too into their practice match to care. We walk around and...damn it! We're lost!
Young-jae already left us to go to the rugby tryouts where he started his career of roughhousing.
After he won the Asia Rugby Championship with the Korea national team, he left to play American football.
Mi-cha joined the track and field which left So-young and I to go to the swimming pool where we don't know the location...stupid forgetful brain!
"M-Min-chul? Where are we?"
'Indeed, that is the question we should be asking...'
Right now, we are at the pole vaulting group; it has nothing to do with swimming. The pole vaulting coaches and female managers see us and start crowding around us and asking questions.
"Hiiiyaaa, cutieesss~ are ya gonna join the pole vaulting club?"
"Ooooohhh! New members!"
The females were crowding around this cool shota while some of the more normal people were crowding around So-young and patting her head. She pouts and runs off to the sidelines.
'...guess it's my job to find out where the pool is then, huh?'
Readying my world defying tactic, they all look at me as I close my eyes and puff up my cheeks. I can already hear some of the noonas getting nosebleeds!
[oh my...it really works]
'Of course it does! I made it after all!'
Don't be surprised by my amazing ability to find what pleases women and men around me. I know how to act cute without them thinking I'm acting cute for every age!
In fact, even in college, I mastered this ability and was able to get grades much higher than normal. But don't get me wrong! I still worked hard... sometimes.
First!
Closing my eyes and looking all around me makes them watery, as if I want to cry but am holding it back.
No snot! Tears are cute and makes you want to protect the babies. Snot isn't and makes you wanna leave that baby back where you found him.
Second!
The tilt! Not too much to say other than act as if you are a puppy curious about something...
Then! Ask away.
"U-u-uuuu...e-excuse me. Where is the pool?"
As I start talking, some of the people crowding around me have major nosebleeds and have collapsed onto the floor.
"Kuh!...eheheheeee...would you l-like me to take you, little boy?"
"Un!"
Some of the farther away people are handling it a bit better and they offer to bring me over to the pool, much to my delight. I mean, it's much better than relying on my brain to remembering the directions, right?
I quickly find So-young standing on the sidelines of the commotion I caused with a blank stare and eyes devoid of life and bring her out of her daze.
'Ohoo? Is she jealous about my cuteness? If you wish to surpass me, then train for another 1000 years!'
While the girl who offered to lead us to the pool is staring at me, the various other clubs look this way at us. Specifically, the girl. Why?
Well, because while walking, she is leaking blood like a zombie or something. A freaking weirdo. I'm cute but please, restrain yourself.
[oh boohoo. Being cute is such a burden, boo hoo]
'Bodiless things like you won't understand'
[wha-! You li-]
Tuning out the haters, I quickly arrive at the pool as So-young clutches the hems of my sleeves. I tap her head and find the coach who is just about to start the briefing on what we are going to do today.
"Alright! So, I'm coach Kwan but you may call me Mr. K or Coach K, got it?"
""yes, Mr. K!""
"Great. Now, to start the tryouts, we will..."
As he starts explaining, some of the kids are looking at their competitors with nervousness and a bit of excitement. For this varsity, the girls and the boys are placed together and will compete with each other up until we are 13 years old.
This is because at our age, there isn't much of a difference in the muscle mass of men and women.
However, as we grow during 13 years old and up, or the puberty stage as it's better known, the boys will have a significant advantage against the girls when it comes to muscle mass and training effectiveness.
50 laps of freestyle would become much more effective for men than for women.
Not sexism, it's fax. Genes fax.
And plus, most competitive swimming tournaments are not unisex. There's a men's swimming and a women's swimming. The women's swimming is much more interesting compared to the men's though.
[uhuh uhuh. I bet it is, pervert]
'What!? That's a baseless accusation! Just because I prefer watching Zsuzanna Jakabos and Chloe Sutton at the Olympics, doesn't make me a pervert...the content is more...uhhhh, amusing! Yeah!'
[uhuh uhuh...sureeeee~~]
'Grahhhhhh!!!'
"Uhhhh, I believe your name is Min-chul, yes? Is there something wrong?"
'Huh? Oh, damn. Seems like my angry expression showed on my face in public'
"Uhh, no! Sorry"
"Alrighty then...so, boys to the left and girls to the right. The boys take lanes 1 through 4 and girls 5 through 8. Quickly, quickly!"
He...shoos? Shooed? He shooed us out of our seats and lined up up on the diving platform by a number we got assigned. We needed to remember this lane as we need to come back here after changing.
"Alright! Now, for the boys, start with Dae-ho sshi in the front and for the girls, start with Hwa-young ah. Count from 1-4. Say it loudly!"
"1!!!" "2!!!" "3~!!!"
After we finished the counting for asserting ourselves, I got lane 3 while So-young got lane 6. We rush into the locker rooms where we need to change ourselves into our swimwear.
Taking off my shirt, some of the older kids are surprised. I mean, who wouldn't be? At 7, I already have fairly toned muscles and a 'V' shape down there... oho! Yeah! I'm the king, baby!
However, for the sake of the women, female assistants of Coach K and the sisters of the kids trying out, I need to wear a rash guard. I know I know. Beauty is meant to be shown.
But not today...not today.
As Dominic Torreto once said "Nothing sadder than locking a beast in a cage". He also said "family-uh...".
I take out my goggles, my towel and my phone in a plastic bag. I finish my shower and head out with the goggles on my head and my phone in my hand ready for break time.
I exit the dressing room and...huh? The hell? Why are people staring at me? Did I wear something the wrong way?
As I'm questioning why some-...no, ALL of the girls and most of the boys are staring at me, I realize why... my hair is wet!!! And my swimsuit is hugging my body!!
[oh God, this again]
'What do you mean!?! This is very dangerous for the women; even more than if I just didn't wear a swimsuit!'
[what a jo-]
"Kuh!...ahem ahem...excuse me!?! Hello? Lets get to swimming already; line up at your lanes"
Bringing everyone out of their daze, coach K brings everyone to their lanes and starts everyone off to see their times.
I'm at the back because I need tension build up and I prefer not to overshadow my fellow swimmers. So-young chose to be at the back just like me.
And just like that, the loud whistle sounds. 3 short ones followed by the starting whistle which is a longer one...
*BRRRPPP* *BRRRPPP* *BRRRPPP* *BBBRRRRRPPPPP*
all of people at the front of their lanes jump into the water and start off the tryouts. Too bad I'm talented!
[no you're not]
'Lalalalala! I'm not listening!'
