Herro was following Kira silently as they exited the large hotel. He discovered that they were on the 16th floor after checking the floor sign on the stairs. He completely ignored it, because he was focusing on rushing upstairs to isolate his aromatic scent. After realizing that they were on the 16th floor, he was amazed that Kira managed to jump from the 16th floor to the ground unscathed.
'She really benefited a lot from absorbing a Mutant' Herro said in his thoughts.
When they exited the building, there were some zombies in the vicinity and it looks like this is where Kira killed those ten zombies from the ones that were attracted by Herro's aromatic scent.
The tense atmosphere between Herro and Kira is still there. Herro was not able to stand the heavy atmosphere between them and decided to ask something to break the ice: "Where are we heading to?" Kira, who was walking ahead of him, looked back. Her expressionless face made Herro flinch subconsciously due to his fear of Kira. After all, it only took a single slap from Kira to break his jaw and left it hanging around.
"To an old military base that was a home of some Mutants." Kira nonchalantly said.
Herro let out a sigh of relief because Kira was just out of the mood and not that angry. But he stopped his signing of relief midway when he realized where they were heading to.
" Home of Mutants?!" Herro was not able to hold back his voice and shouted unintentionally.
When the zombies that were scattered around them heard his shout, they turned their heads towards him and then growled and started rushing towards Kira and Herro's direction.
Herro was not the slightest bit afraid of the zombies anymore, so was Kira, who was strong as a Mutant.
Herro grinned in excitement, but he didn't pull out his Katana swords, but instead he swung his arms and his fingers turned into claws. And then he slightly crouched his back and made a stance like what was seen mostly on movies and games.
When Kira saw Herro doing that, she asked, "Was that necessary?"
Herro blushed out of embarrassment and then he stood up straight and replied at what Kira had said, "I just thought it was cool to make this stance..."
"So that was what you're practicing last night," Kira said as she nodded her head with a smirk.
Herro's face turned red even more without wasting any second, he rushed towards the incoming zombies. The first zombie came and he brandished his claws and the zombie's head flew immediately. And then he continued to kill the zombies that were attacking him.
The battle didn't take that long and he tried to absorb them, but he was not able to get any stats out of them.
He was quite happy that he was a lot stronger than when he transmigrated into this place.
He swung his claws downwards and it turned back into a hand. This was another move he made to make himself look cooler—that's what he thought.
"Are we really going to the military base that you said? Isn't it dangerous?" Herro asked Kira nervously, as he was afraid of where they're heading to.
Herro was confident that he and Kira could beat a single Mutant if it will attack them, but going to the base of where Mutants are, it will surely number above three Mutants.
"Don't worry, I scouted this place a couple of times and I already knew the pattern of their movements," Kira said confidently and started to run towards the direction of the base. Herro followed her and he was thankful that Kira was limiting her speed so Herro would not lose sight of her.
Since Herro was just slightly physically better than the average human, he couldn't run at his high speed for a long time and needed to take some rest. After five minutes of running, Herro's speed was decreasing and he was breathing deeply, gasping for air.
Kira noticed that Herro was already exhausted from running. Unlike her, who was injected with the BES and absorbed some strength and other stats from the Mutant she absorbed, she has really great stamina, and running at low speed for an hour or two is easy for her.
Kira stopped running and looked back at Herro and asked, "You're already tired? I was just running at low speed, but you're already gasping for air!"
'LOW SPEED YOUR ASS! THAT WAS MY TOP SPEED! I am about to die just to keep up with your inhuman speed, but you're going to insult me with your low speed?' Herro couldn't help but protest inwardly. He was so tired and out of breath to voice out his thoughts and there is still the tendency for Kira to hit him if what he said will irritate him.
'Just wait until I get stronger than you! I will get my revenge for this humiliation that I received.' Herro promised himself that he would take revenge and humiliate and toy Kira in the future.
Herro was quite confident in doing this because of his unlimited potential. He could even become as powerful as a dragon if he could absorb some.
Herro did not talk back to Kira and just focused on catching his breath. When Kira saw her situation, she grabbed the backpack she was wearing on her back and put it on the ground in front of her. Then, she squatted down and opened the bag and grabbed something.
Herro saw this but just ignored it as he was trying to regain his energy back. By this time, his body had become cooler and more relaxed compared to his state 30 seconds ago.
He was a biker in his past life, but running is a lot more tiring than biking. Biking at a normal speed for 30 minutes is like running at a normal speed for 10 minutes. (Note * this was just based on my personal experience and not scientifically based.)
Herro completely ignored Kira because of his exhaustion. 'I wish I brought a water." He regretted it for not bringing water in his thoughts.
"Here," Kira said as she handed out a water bottle to Herro. Herro was startled by Kira's sudden appearance, but he recovered immediately after seeing the water. He quickly grabbed it and drank it hurriedly, as if he was chased by some bull.
Kira chuckled as she watched Herro drank the water. Herro just ignored her. He didn't know if her chuckle means she found Herro funny or her chuckle means belittling Herro as if he was just a vermin compared to her.
Herro finished drinking the water in no time and he was still asking for more.
Then he stood up and stretched his arms and legs and readied himself to run when Kira suddenly said, "Wait!"
Herro looked at her and said, "What?"
Then Kira asked him, "Why don't you kill zombies on the way and absorb them to replenish your energy? If you do this, you can run for a long time without resting."
After Herro heard what Kira had said, he was happy and excited. Kira was right. He could use zombies to replenish his energy and heal himself.
He remembered that he already did what Kira had suggested. It was when the useless skill of his activated, not long ago, after he transmigrated into this world. He carried the corpse with one hand and ran towards the exit of the large lounge from the building where he found himself after transmigrating.
He used the corpse to heal his wounds and thus granting him success and escaped the group of zombies that wanted to eat him in the lounge.
"Thank you Kira!" Herro thanked Kria excitedly and did some stretches again with a grin engraved on his lips.
Kira smiled and nodded at him. Then she started running again. Herro followed her and along the way. He killed zombies using his claws and grabbed their bodies and dragged them as he ran. The bodies of the zombies were light because they lost a lot of muscle mass.
When he felt he was getting tired, he absorbed the zombie he was carrying and if it was not enough, he would kill and absorb until he felt satisfied. This routine continued for twenty minutes before they stopped.
Herro lied on the ground to relax his body. Even though he can absorb the stamina of the zombies he consumed, it will not ease the accumulated mental exhaustion he got from nonstop running.
"Sleeping is the best way to replenishing the lost energy," Herro complained to Kira.
"Isn't it good that you could run that far while still having a lot of energy left in your body?" Kira was confused by what Herro was saying and thus asked him a question.
"The idea you proposed was indeed effective, but it does not ease my mental exhaustion. Unlike sleeping where I can relax my mind." Herro replied to Kira's question.
Kira nodded in agreement with what Herro had said.
Then she pointed out her finger and said, "You don't have to feel stressed anymore because we finally reach our destination.'
Herro stared at her finger and traced where he was pointing her hand and when he saw it, his brow creased as he gaped in confusion.
