Chapter 224 - Sport

__________ POV Narration __________

The explosions that Ashton set off ripped apart everything near the walls, even touching the ever-advancing horde of beasts, causing more and more bodies to pile up.

But Ashton didn't let his guard off for one second, even if this move should technically be enough to kill his enemy, it was better to be prepared than celebrate in advance and suffer later.

The gods choose to not return to the Abyss, as facing Ashton would be almost certain death for their new creation.

Ashton would likely rip it apart before it even stirred up any of its Aura, as the old hunter was expecting its return with open arms and visible hostility.

The gods, after a split second of thinking, decided to tank the explosion.

Ashton smiled as he looked at the image of the calamity still projected in front of him, he was still waiting in the Abyss, for its return in case anything happened.

Currently, there was only red, a bright and powerful light blinded the usually bleak Abyss.

'That was quite the move... I honestly didn't know what to expect from you. I thought you'd ask for my help or something...' Ashton could basically hear Ozzy pout verbally.

'You've been observing me for the longest of times. You should already understand how my mind works, at least to some extent. And would you even be able to help? You're mostly a ghost aren't you?' Ashton responded, he didn't take his eyes off the calamity though, refusing to lose his focus for even a split second.

'I would be able to help you... I'd just need to take control of some beast to do so. I'm technically just like them, ya know? I just don't fancy calling myself a god. Feels dishonest.' Ozzy said while also observing the situation.

'Say... If this thing was dead, then the image should've stopped already right?' Ozzy finally pointed out after a few more seconds of looking at the flames reflected in the screen.

'Yep... It's certainly not dead. I don't know if it's stronger than I thought, or has some moves that haven't been shown yet. But that doesn't matter, I just have to find another way to fight it.' Ashton said while nearly rolling his eyes to the back of his head in annoyance.

'Now now, this won't be as frustrating I'm sure. Now the gods will be quite reluctant to switch dimensions all the time, especially since you can attack them regardless.' Ozzy was the one helping analyze the situation now, trying his best to give the frustrated Ashton some sort of advice.

Ashton was about to respond, but the image on the screen changed, which prompted him to pay closer attention to it. 'The flames should've raged for quite a bit longer...' He mused to himself, then it kicked to him.

He looked at the energy surrounding the mostly unharmed calamity. IT seemed to be pushing away the oxygen from all around it. Something that Ashton had failed to anticipate, after all, gravity also affected oxygen, it was only obvious that the beast could make his flames useless.

But it was still injured, Ashton could see burns all over its relatively small body. What's even better, they weren't even showing any sign of healing.

Ashton leapt back into the regular world, this time, the calamity didn't try to run away. Instead, Ashton heard a hate-filled voice echo in his mind.

'YOU WORM! HOW DARE YOU HAR-' Ashton quickly tuned it out. He didn't care for the crying and wailing of his enemy.

It was quite stupid to complain to your enemy about getting hit while in battle.

'Damn, even I couldn't make them complain so much! Props to you, I guess?' Ozzy commented in his usual tone.

Ashton looked at the injured beast in front of him and tilted his head.

'So that's how it blocked most of the damage...' The calamity seemed to be bending space around it, creating a sort of barrier around it and the real world. Even so, it was burned by the high temperatures, so the barrier was clearly not anywhere near perfect.

"Hey! Try to survive a bit more! I'm having a lot of fun!" Ashton shouted as he pointed his palm towards the beast, releasing a concentrated blast that blew away everything in front of the old hunter.

The beast, however, blocked the blast entirely, what it didn't block, however, was the searing temperature that it released, it caused a few more burns to appear on the calamity.

Then, Ashton was about to gloat a bit more, but they finally decided to go on the offensive.

The calamity spread its aura, mimicking a field of sorts. En, a technique that was more specific to Nen than Shakti, the calamity instantly squeezed all of the oxygen out of the field, rendering any explosion completely null, as well as causing Ashton to hold his breath.

The old hunter didn't remain in that place, obviously, he left almost instantly. Only looking at the situation while rubbing his chin.

'How exactly do I kill it now?' He was hoping to be able to cook it alive using multiple explosions. He thought the gods wouldn't use this move so freely since the amount of Aura that the calamity had wasn't quite endless, but it seemed that they were going all out, disregarding the fact that they were slowly going to run out of strength.

At this point, Ashton could just keep pressuring the calamity until it completely ran out of energy. His win was mostly assured, as the beast was also injured and not healing.

'But I don't want this... I want to crush them completely... How would I go about doing that?' Ashton continued to ponder that while the beast kept up its domain.

Ashton then noticed that beasts were starting to pierce through the wall. But at this point, he just shrugged and continued fighting the beast in front of him.

'I've already killed off more than half of them at the first wall. At this rate, it's unlikely they'll even reach the walls of the city. Many will be eaten in the labyrinth forest...' Ashton pondered while realising that he went a bit far when killing all of the beasts.

The defences were prepared to hold back much stronger species, the ones that appeared were simply weak to him. But they were going to prove as good sport for the rest of humanity at least.

'I should tell Maha and the others to go into the forests if they want to get any action...'
