__________ POV Narration__________
"Ashton, that actual madman... He's actually planning on killing all these beasts by himself?" Kanzai said while he stretched his hands a bit.
All of the leaders, the strongest members of humanity, were all propped up on the wall of trees. They had gotten bored waiting for Ashton's signal, and decided to scout the situation themselves.
Only to see a large battle and the mountain of beast corpses that had already formed on the horizon. A mountain that they had yet to contribute to.
"I guess we've overprepared a bit... But, we can't really let him do all the work..." Maha spoke while staring in the distance.
In truth, humanity was more than prepared for hordes twice as large as the current one to attack. Why? How was this civilization any stronger than the one Ozymandias ruled?
Well, the answer is rather simple. While they were initially weaker in raw power, when the barrier was still up, they were forced to find different ways to fight. They became inventive, tricky.
Ozymandias and all his warriors were simple fighters, they didn't have the honed assassination techniques that the Zoldycks do now.
They didn't have the proper mindset to create powerful Nen abilities with restrictive conditions. To them, it was all about explosive strength.
Now, humans are all marginally stronger due to that aspect. Their skills are more up to the task.
"I guess we can take care of the ones that actually manage to pass that self-healing wall... There should still be a few million advancing towards the continent now." Cheadle said while analysing the situation.
"... I don't know what to say about this... The situation seems to have been flipped on its head. I guess dealing with numbers like this is also somewhat difficult..." Kurapika spoke while preparing his chains.
"I think this is going to be a good learning experience for the younger ones." Said Zeno while looking at Gon, Kalluto and Killua.
"Heh... The situation turned from 'end of humanity' to a 'good learning experience' overnight. Rather funny when you think about it like that." Halkenburg, one of the princes that were also present spoke with an amused tone.
"Let's not waste any more time... If we don't hurry the beasts will all die in the labyrinth. I'm sure everyone studied the map, we should head to the hot zones and take care of things. Remember to always retreat between the trees when you get in trouble, they'll protect us."
Kite was the one to give the start and also the first to jump into the fray.
"I'll go after Kite!" Gon shouted as he also jumped off in the distance.
"Zeno, I don't think there's any need to use the bombs now. You can just use your Nen to kill the beasts." Cheadle spoke while looking at the situation with a calm gaze.
The bombs weren't exactly something that they wanted to use, they were always going to cause a lot of environmental damage. It was a lot better to just fight normally since the situation was a lot less dire than expected.
And so, all of the powerful Nen users of humanity scattered along the shores of their continent, each awaiting the monsters.
Meanwhile, Ashton's situation showed little to no signs of improving.
'Is this really going to be a contest of stamina after all? I'm totally going to win it, but I still want to crush this thing completely.' Ashton was at an impasse. He couldn't use Parasitic Explosion, he couldn't use Wind Aspect, even the Blood-Soaked Carnival wouldn't be quite useful in this situation.
His opponent could quite literally bend space and make all attacks stop or pass through without causing any harm.
'Well, I don't know about killing you, but they sure made this thing to annoy you...' Ozzy said while poking fun at Ashton for a bit.
"Oi! How about you just give up and spare me the wasted time?!" Ashton shouted, either hoping to demoralize his enemy or make them irrationally angry, causing them to waste more energy.
It seemed both results happened at the same time. 'HOW DARE YOU HUMAN?' was a lot less pronounced, Ashton could tell that not all of the gods were speaking at that time.
'Seems like they aren't as united in thought as they'd like to be.' Ozzy pointed out while walking circles inside Ashton's mind.
'Well then, what have you got up your sleeve? I think it's high time you end this fight...' Ozzy spoke to Ashton in a serious tone this time.
This might be the one threat Ashton needs to look out for, but there were more gods around, and they were going to strike at humanity sooner than later. So Ashton needed to weed them all out in advance...
Well, not like they were going to be able to win against people like Maha or Kite without any good host to possess. They were likely just going to die even if Ashton decided to stand by and look. But he did take it upon himself to kill the 'Gods' with his own hands.
The Calamity faced Ashton with readiness, it's aura was spread around it defensively. It seemed to have given up on any notion of attacking Ashton, it was likely going to rely on counterattacks to take him down.
Ashton looked at the beast, then stopped.
"Now that I think about it... Why am I even fighting this thing?" Ashton spoke out loud without even realizing it.
'Well, it's a danger to human-...' Ozzy interrupted himself as he realised just how strange the situation actually was.
"This thing can't move from that place, right? At least it hasn't done so at all, even when it should've. What's stopping me from just leaving. Its meagre aura can only reach the wall of trees I've set up, it's hundreds of kilometres off from actually being a threat to anyone..."
The more Ashton spoke, the more he started to look down on the gods for creating such a strange being.
They also seemed unresponsive now that Ashton was speaking about leaving. They likely didn't know what to say and didn't want to worsen the situation.
'... This is stupid. I guess we got swept up in the excitement of it all... But since when are they this stupid?' Ozzy was also genuinely stumped.
'Don't think you can run?!... One last hit! Without any defence! ONE EXCHANGE TO DECIDE THIS BATTLE!' The gods finally spoke after a while.
Their strategy was rather simple now, and also highly predictable. Bait Ashton into one last exchange and bet everything on it. It was their last realistic chance at killing Ashton at this point.
They were obviously not going to abide by the no defence rule, that was mostly just said as a formality.
"... You're lucky I want to crush you. I could just turn away and ignore you for the rest of eternity." Ashton was obviously going to go by it.
The old hunter turned to the beast and prepared for his last showdown.
'Down to a clash of powers, huh? Well, whatever the case. The battle is mostly over, so is this pathetic excuse for a horde...' Ozzy commented with a bit of frustration.
'To think that humanity has grown to this extent... That you have grown to this extent...' Ozzy's voice seemed melancholic once more, after all, for a being so old, it was easy to get lost in thought, thinking about the past.
"Well, no reason to waste any more time!" Ashton shouted as he released the entirety of his Nen. His aura covered the sky, his presence made the beasts nearby tremble in fear.
The calamity did its best to match Ashton's intensity, but it couldn't compare in that aspect.
'I wonder what type of shit they'll pull this time...' Ashton thought as he further charged up his next attack.
