Chapter 13 - The world is crazy

I just shrugged my shoulders. He sat down a foot away from me and I made sure to not look at him.

"So...who are you?" he asks awkwardly. I stay silent. I didn't know what to say. He was so close, could I reveal my secret.

He wouldn't be safe tho. "So you can't talk?" he says with a little humor. I nod and his smile disappears.

"Oh sorry, I didn't mean to joke about that," he says seriously and I just nod again. I knew he would know immediately who I was if he saw my face or even heard my voice.

Right now he probably thinks I am a small person. I am hoping he doesn't even know I am a girl.

I started to feel tears on my cheek. I missed him so much. Thinking about him and my family got me through those years. Now with him so close, but I still can't go to him. Daniel has ruined my life. I rub my neck and feel the collar, I am still in chains.

"Well here. I have to go but see you around," he says, putting down a bag. He left, but I heard him near hiding behind a tree. I grabbed the bag without facing him and opened it.

Holy crackers it is a chick fil a. I quickly munch down and eat the plain chicken sandwich and the fries. Also, there was one cookie on the bottom.

"Thank you" I whisper. I threw the bag in the fire.

I finally felt better and made sure the fire could burn for longer and I climbed up the tree to my new living space. It was a tiny platform, but it was nice. I heard the swaying of the river and it was very calming.

"Hush now, my baby. Be still love, don't cry. Sleep like you're rocked by the stream." I softly sing the soft lullaby my dad used to sing to me. " Sleep and remember my lullaby. And I'll be with you when you dream. Drift on a river. That flows through my arms. Drift as I'm singing to you. I see you smiling. so peaceful and calm." I start to tear up. "And holding you, I'm smiling too. Here in my arms. safe from all harm. Holding you, I'm smiling too. Hush now, my baby. Be still love, don't cry. Sleep like you're rocked by the stream. Sleep and remember this river lullaby. And I'll be with you when you dream. I'll be with you when you dream." I sighed in happiness.

As a kid, I saw the Moses movie with my dad. When the mother of Moses had to let her baby go she sang that song, at least in the cartoon. My dad saw that I liked it and spent a couple of hours mesmerizing and sang it to me every night. Even when I got too old for lullabies he would come when he thought I was asleep and softly whisper the song. I slowly weaved the branches above me to make a simple roof. Then I slowly drift off to sleep.

I woke up with a bird on my face, like literally no joke.

I don't move and watch it look at me like It was figuring out if I was dead. It was a small blue jay. I smiled and moved a little and it flew off. I guess my dad was right. I do sleep like I am dead.

I don't move and sometimes I hold my breath, or I breathe extremely softly and silently.

I sat up and jumped down. I bent down and cleaned my face with freezing cold river water.

It was a beautiful morning.

I think I have to go back and make contact with the police commissioner. He probably thinks I am dead. I clean up and put on my new clothes, while first cleaning my now healing wound. I put some more rubbing alcohol around the wound just in case of infection.

I had an okay morning. I hunted a rabbit, made a good breakfast, and walked to the bus station. I was now standing in front of the police commissioner's office.

I can't get in like last time, his personal assistant was on the dark side, the dark side, I laughed at my thoughts. "Luke, I am your father," I say with a robotic voice. I make myself crack up.

I assessed the window I flew out of and noticed there was only a tarp on it. I get past security easily again and go to the floor below the 25. I walk to a private office and open the window.

I hear the traffic 23 three stores underneath me. The cars and horns and yelling. I climbed up using just my fingers since there was not a lot of gripping space. The wind was ruffly blowing against me. I almost lost my grip.

I climb up and finally crawl and move the tarp to get in. I gave a big sigh and looked up. It was empty, but I heard talking. I quickly got up and hid under the desk. I heard the door open.

"Lily please tell everyone I am done with the press conference and give me some quiet time, no disturbances unless an emergency," he says. His voice sounds tired. He shuts the door and sighs.

I slowly got up and sat in his chair.

He turns and almost jumps, the keyword is almost.

He smiles at me which surprises me. "You are alive," he states while chuckling. I put my finger to my lips. If lily was his assistant, that means his office is bugged. I look around and see the bobblehead on his desk. It was the face of George Washington. I grabbed it and turned it upside down. I saw the bug embedded in the bottom. I took it out, and opened the little thing, and moved some wiring. I took out the red wire which was controlling the listening part. If someone was listening they will just hear silence.

I sighed "Okay we are safe." I state. He nods and sits on the chair in front of his desk. "Have you found anything?" I ask and he nods.

"I made contact with my brother-in-law, one of the top lawyers in New york. I gave him the evidence and he is bringing this case to the FBI." he states and I smile.

"They wanted me to get in contact with you and to ask for your help on the case." I nodded at him. "Do you know where they are, or where I can meet them at?" He nods and gives me an address.

I smile at him, "thanks, old man." I say and he chuckles at me. This time I noticed a pipe or some kind of huge wiring on the side of the building I walked to the tarp and gave him one last nod. I climb out and I watch as he comes to the window concerned.

I smile at him then jump. He looked scared but I grabbed the pipe thing and slid down really fast. I felt my hands burning up a little bit. When I got to the fifth floor I jumped through the hole I made last time. I walked down the stairs and exited the building.
