"Summer, let's go out," Jenny shouted as she entered Summer's room without notice.
She found the latter curled in bed.
"What's wrong?" Jenny asked, alarmed. Summer was usually so vibrant as if nothing could take her down.
But now, she looked like a panda with dark circles under her eyes. Her blue eyes were puffy, and her face was wan.
"What did that bastard do to you again?" Jenny asked, frowning. "There's nothing good about Luke! That womanizing bastard!"
Jenny didn't understand why Summer wanted to marry Luke at all costs. Her best friend was very beautiful, a well-known elegant lady.
But she was after a man like Luke, who treated her like dirt. In their circle, it was an open secret that Summer White was crazy over Luke Winston.
In some secret group of socialites who hated Summer's beauty and brains, she had become the brunt of jokes.
"Mom, let you in?" Summer asked in a tired voice, turning to Jenny.
"She told me to come in and said that I have to drag you out. It's been three days since you went out." Jenny crossed her arms, pouting.
This was the only way she knew to cheer her up. Or else Summer would just stay here for months.
"You need to come with me to the party, or those girls will bully me," she said, lying about being bullied.
Jenny grabbed Summer's arms, shaking it. One of their so-called friends would host a party.
Lying didn't come easy to her, but she did it for Summer. Who would dare to bully her, Jenny Shin?
"Are you sure they bully you, or you are the one who bullies people?" Summer raised her well-defined brow in question. She came down from the bed knowing that Jenny wouldn't stop if she didn't give in.
"I'm not! I can't even hurt an insect. How can I hurt a human being?" Jenny exaggeratedly asked and acted like it hurt her feelings.
Summer just laughed and walked to the bathroom.
"I'm taking a bath. Wait for me outside," she said before entering.
Jenny felt satisfied, hurrying outside to talk to Autumn, Summer's mother.
*********
Summer stared at the flashing, colorful lights outside their VIP room. The floor-to-ceiling window facing her afforded a perfect position to watch the people dancing on the ground floor.
Bodies gyrated, men and women without inhibitions were dancing to the sexy tune. The DJ was shaking his head and swaying his body as he played the music.
Her friends were having fun around her in this spacious VIP room. Jenny's at the side with her latest boy toy. And beside her was Kenny, glaring at the man she was with.
Those two had a complicated relationship. Even she wasn't clear about what those two had. Were they in an open relationship or just friends with benefits?
She didn't ask because her life was complex enough. Luke was enough for a headache.
Thank God, that some ladies here ignored her, and they left her alone to her own devices. Most men kept looking her way, but she ignored all of them.
Her thoughts were on Luke. What was he doing now?
Every time she remembered Luke, her heart ached again. He got her heart in a vise, and he could crush it any time.
Summer stood up, walked towards the window. Envy filled her heart for the lovers who sweetly danced below without a care for the world.
When she was a kid, she wished for a love like that. Her parents weren't around, so she gave all her love to her grandpa.
But he died when she was five-year-old, leaving her alone. A sad smile appeared on Summer's lips despite the seemingly cheerful atmosphere around her.
Then, out of the blue, someone kicked the door open. It almost came off the hinges. Some of her friends shouted and stayed away from the door.
Summer's brow squeezed together, and she walked to the middle to check what happened. Her eyes widened a little when Luke appeared.
"You're here!" Summer exclaimed, happy that he was here. It meant that the wound was better.
People murmured around her, curious. Luke rarely appeared whenever she was around.
"Summer!" Luke shouted, angry. His face was red, gray eyes glaring at her.
He strode towards her and grabbed her hand.
"It hurts, let me go!" Summer seized her hand, pushing Luke away. He tightened his grip.
"I'll give you what you fucking want!" Luke's eyes were red. They play tug-of-war using her hand.
"What do you mean?" Summer's confusion was clear on her face.
Luke's lip curved, and he snickered, "What? Stop playing the innocent card. It won't work for me. Come with me!"
Summer almost stumbled if Jenny didn't catch her.
"What's the meaning of this, Luke?" Jenny hugged Summer, preventing her from moving.
"We're going to get married. Do you want to marry me, too?"
