Chapter 5

Jenny's eyes widened.

Summer was aghast.

She didn't expect this outcome. When they talked days ago, Luke was against marrying her. What could have changed his opinion?

"What are you talking about?" Jenny asked in a horrified scream. "This is not a good joke!"

Summer knew that Jenny didn't like Luke for her. In fact, she was very vocal about it.

Luke's face darkened. "Get out of my way if you don't want me to throw you out!"

The seemingly endless chatter from the surrounding audience stilled. Kenny stepped forward.

"Luke, that's way out of line," Kenny glared daggers at Luke. "You came here to break our party. I don't remember inviting you."

"Is this your party?" Luke asked Kenny, returning a murderous gaze.

"I pay for it," Kenny replied, raising his chin. "I can fucking decide who I want to invite!"

"Hughs, don't butt in. This ain't your business," Luke growled at Kenny.

"Kenny, please step back," Summer interrupted the two before things turned worse. She knew that Luke and Kenny didn't get along.

If these two men clashed, it wouldn't end just here. Their families were prominent, and a brawl wasn't good for anyone's image. Also, Kenny had a lot more to lose—his father was running for the senatorial seat.

Kenny gritted his teeth and stepped back. She was glad he listened to her. He must have known about the consequences of the fight.

"Let her go," Jenny snapped and grabbed Summer's hand. She was trying to separate her hand and Luke's.

"You're coming with me!" Luke yelled, pulling Summer with him. The heels made it difficult for her to walk, and it was making her almost stumble.

People watched the commotion, even the guests from other VIP rooms opened their doors when they realized that Luke Winston was here.

Clenching her teeth, Summer did her best to walk after him. She turned to look at Jenny, but burly bodyguards were stopping her.

Summer didn't know how Luke sneaked in his bodyguards. This club was strictly off-limits to personal bodyguards. The place was safe, so no one bothered to bring their guards inside. They just wait outside.

"Calm down! Why are you doing this?!" She couldn't take it anymore and finally seized her hand back.

Luke's eyes turned to slits, and he snickered. "You couldn't get through me, so you involved my brother!"

"Your brother?" Summer stared at him, confused. "What are you talking about?"

"Pretending to not know?" Luke stepped closer to her. "We both know you're freaking desperate."

"We're doing this for the company! Our families!" Summer felt the danger. In Luke's eyes, a monster was lurking. He must be furious.

She knew that his bottom line was his elder twin brother, Logan. He listened to Logan.

"This is the first time he asked something from me," Luke continued. "He told me to marry you. What did you do?!"

Luke took a step closer until Summer's back hit the wall. He cornered her in between his arms.

Their faces were so close. Summer could even see that he had no pores.

"Tell me!" Luke dangerously whispered. Chills crawled on her spine. Her legs were barely holding her up.

Her throat was dry, and she couldn't, for the love of God, thought of any answer! She knew nothing. Summer was innocent.

Logan Winston was out of her reach. That man was on a different level from her. She remembered meeting him a few times when they were kids.

He had to leave New York at the age of six. Luke was the one that stayed with her almost every day.

Logan was the heir to Winston Conglomerate, and he trained since young. They said the man was a prodigy in the business world.

How could she talk to him?!

Summer felt Luke's breath against her ears, and his lips were so close to her neck. Heat rushed to her face.

She didn't know why...but she felt like this didn't feel right. It was as if this was wrong! Summer wondered why she felt this way.

Shouldn't she be happy that Luke was so close to her, even though this was because he was angry? Before, no matter how angry Luke was, he always put distance between them.

The only time she got close to him was when he laid in bed days ago. A memory flashed in her head.

Summer saw a kid wiping her tears. It was Luke. She should always remember the kind Luke who she loved.

She promised she wouldn't change and would love him for a lifetime. Summer wanted to honor those words. Somehow, she believed that the old Luke just laid dormant in Luke's heart.

Life changed him so much. She witnessed it all. A tragedy could change a man's heart, so she swore she would be the one to remember.

"Yes, I did!" Summer raised her face, meeting Luke's eyes. They were only a hairsbreadth apart.

"It was all me! I wanted to marry you! Luke, I love you…" The dam broke in Summer's heart when she said those words.

She avoided those words because she didn't want to give him everything...yet. Now, she handed his heart to him as well.

Luke's eyes darkened. His face slowly moved closer, inch by inch. Summer stared at his lips. They were so close.

Suddenly, a gravelly voice interrupted them.

"This isn't the place for that, Luke."

Summer pushed Luke and glanced at the person who interrupted them.

Then, as if time stood still, she just stared. In front of her was the man who had the same face as Luke.

Logan Winston. He was back.
