As my consciousness began existing i realized that i could read myself. Most of my pages consisted of emptiness, causing my attention to be drawn to the narration slowly filling the immediately readable part of me. It seemed to be written in past tense, yet it was written as it happened. After inspecting my body further i realized that i had what my encyclopedia called eyes, and opened them.
No encyclopedia could have prepared me for the wonders called light and colour. It was an entirely new source of sensory information, completely different from reading oneself. I saw several seemingly confused creatures, and for some reason knew that i was similar in apperance.
One of the creatures looked at me, seeming relieved. Confused, i looked behind me, noticing nothing of importance. Returning to my reading, i found the text claiming its gaze to be upon me. Unable to confirm or deny this, i looked towards said creature, pondering what to do next.
Fortunately, i did not need to figure out my next course of action as the creature initiated conversation. The air began to form waves, shooting towards me at an impressive pace. After reading the pattern, i understood that it wished to convey the message of "are you okay?".
In confusion as to why i would not be "okay", i consentrated to send similar waves of air in a different pattern; one which stated the question of why the creature seemed to believe that i was not in optimal condition.
It explained that my extrospection was at a later time time than that of most of us(us meaning the creatures which i seem to be one of). The creature, whose name was apparently Alan, appeared to contemplate something. I asked about the source of his contemplation and was questioned by him in return. He wished to know whether or not i posessed what he called a system, to which the answer was a clear no. After this answer many were confused as they apparently knew exactly what he inquired about, and posessed it.
After a tedious process, we confirmed that i was the only bookwraith without a system.
