Steve thought something and realized, "Oh right, you had no idea about it as you left the very next day of prom and I actually came to talk to you about it but you were busy leaving and your mom, dad were emotional, so I decided to tell you about it later after meeting you in person and never mentioned anything in the letters too which anyway you didn't receive."
Steve nodded his head as he understood what might have happened.
"What is happening?"
"You seriously thought me and Lisa are still dating each other?" He laughed at her.
"Yeah, given how much you loved her." She got upset recollecting those miserable three years of her life.
Steve and Lisa started dating each other after Valentine's day when he told her that he likes Lisa and their relationship lasted all through the high school so Erica assumed it continued.
Steve again laughed when he heard her words, "Yeah, but sometimes you fall for the wrong person you know."
"What do you mean?"
"Honestly I am also not sure what I mean but that night I realized Lisa is not the one and I broke up with her."
"What night?"
"The prom night"
"What?" Erica was now really shocked and looked at him with her eyes wide open.
"Yeah, I wanted to talk to you about it but the next day you left and so on…"
"Wait, you broke up with her after sleeping with her?" She snapped at him, "I can't believe you are so disgusting Steve"
"Hey, what the hell are you talking about?" He felt wronged by her accusation.
"Lisa told me that she was planning to lose her virginity to you on the prom night and you too were onboard with that plan"
"Oh, she told you that?"
"Yeah" Erica now felt embarrassed as she questioned him about something so personal and she knew she had no right to ask him as it was his and Lisa's life and she had no right to question them.
"Actually, nothing happened between us." Steve explained.
"Steve, you don't have to explain it to me, I have no right to ask you such personal questions."
"Chill Erica, you are my best friend"
"Am I still ?" stared with wide eyes.
"You will always be"
Erica felt an explainable pain when she heard his words.
"That night, something happened and I refused to sleep with Lisa. She got upset about it and a few things happened and we had a huge fight then we broke up."
"Oh" Erica couldn't believe what happened.
"It's okay, I was fine. I later dated a few girls during my college but none of my relationships lasted as long as the one with Lisa and with every girl I felt like something was wrong and…"
"So, you never slept with anyone?" Erica regretted the moment she said the words aloud so she added, "Sorry, it just came out naturally."
Steve again laughed at her, "Erica, chill, you can ask me whatever you want. I am not a saint, I did sleep with my other girlfriends but the relationships didn't last for even a year and I never had a stable relationship again, just random hook-ups or one-night stands."
Erica nodded her head understanding but this time she didn't feel the pain as much as she felt with the thought of Steve sleeping with Lisa, she was fine with his other relationships.
She then realized in high-school, she was more hurt with her best friend Lisa's betrayal than Steve.
