The perfectly symmetrical edges of the crystal glistened in the laboratory's ceiling lights. So blue that it looked entirely black when Eve's shadow fell over it. It was only as big as a phalanx on Eve's thumb, yet able to bring so much destruction.
The crystal laid, seemingly harmless, on a circle-shaped pedestal from which a thick cable run towards a tablet. A lot of precautions had been made to ensure that the intelligence within the crystal won't run rampant again. Both the laptop and the entire laboratory were isolated from the outside world for everyone and everything but Eve herself.
Eve swallowed. This was as safe as it got. Unless she destroyed Nexus's core entirely, she had to access it. Otherwise, who knew if one day it would find a way to restore its functions and run amok again?
