Blain suddenly awoke to Emily shrieking on the other side of him. She was frantically kicking her feet and flailing her arms all over. Blain wasn't exactly sure what he should do. Should I wake her, should I hug her, or should I just let it be? He wondered to himself. Then Emily started shouting out don't touch me, boogie man. I know you're here. Leave me alone! Emily was almost chanting those 3 sentences over and over and over again.
Blain reached out one arm to stop Emily's whirlwind limbs. Please Emily come back to me, Blain whispered. Although nothing seemed to stop Emily's violent outburst. Blain watched Emily twist and turn screaming in her sleep for what seemed like hours, even though it was only about fifteen minutes. Am I truly ready for this, he thinks aloud. Blain shook his thoughts off remembering how madly in love with Emily he is. Emily, Emily, Emily he chants softly.
Emily shot up drenched in sweat once again. Her brow dripping from her perspiration and her clothes damp to the touch. She looked over at Blain but this look he'd never seen before. Blain was frightened by the look in her eyes. Emily, Blain said quietly rubbing her left cheek. Are you alright? No! Get away from me! Emily shouts out. Don't touch me, boogie man! I'm not the boogie man Emily, It's me Blain. Blain tried tirelessly to reason with her. She wouldn't come around and she wasn't about to let him touch her. Okay, okay Blain said backing off.
Blain sat there staring at his soon-to-be wife in disbelief. How could this possibly be happening to her? I'm here with her, nobody has been in her room beside us. He lets his thoughts run rampant. Who could be tormenting my love to this extent? Blain knew about her ex, he knew all the vile things that monster did to her but it's been so long he couldn't comprehend him being her boogie man. He couldn't comprehend anyone being this traumatic to her while he was there protecting her.
Finally, Emily snapped out of it looking at Blain with pain in her eyes. Oh my gosh, Blain, what happened? I'm so sorry for anything I did to you in my sleep. I told you, run far away from me. I'm damaged, there is something wrong with me. Emily, I told you before there isn't anything that is going to make me run away from you. You are the light of my life, sleep episodes, or anything else. I love you so much! I'm not going anywhere. Would you like to talk about what just happened my love, Blain says in a sweet tone.
Emily thinks for a second trying to muster up the courage to explain her dream to blain. It didn't happen but she decided to write down her thoughts on the dream once again.
What if all your life you knew that he was real
Always out there waiting, to catch you by surprise
hiding in the shadows, your childhood he'd steal
What if you knew the stories of the boogie man weren't lies
He's not the monster in the closet or hiding beneath the bed
The boogie man is real and not only in your head
You knew one day he'd find you, no matter where you hide
whoever said he isn't real, you know that they have lied
Hiding in the darkness, he's come for you once more.
Close your eyes and hold your breath, he's right outside your door
Even if you run you'll never getaway
Hiding in the darkness you know he's here to stay
Emily scribbled her thoughts down as quickly as she could, eager to hand them over to Blain. She desperately wanted to explain to him but she just couldn't bring herself to speak of her nightmares out loud. When Emily was finished she rushed over to Blain handing him the piece of paper she'd just tore from her notebook. please read these words she said to him in a whisper. I couldn't possibly express this any other way.
